Free.
Colourless Roman had been waiting for them to come. He'd been searching for their sign of warning, waiting for the moment when they'd take The Man out.
To say he was surprised when they deemed him a bug would've been an overstatement. He thought they'd label him something like a malfunction.
A bug sounded a little more human.
With The Man gone and no one else inside the simulation, Colourless Roman was left to wander halls alone. They were all so bland and gray, something Roman had once hated.
Now, at least they were bland and gray but they left him alone.
He wondered why he was alive if he'd killed The Man, or his Thomas. It didn't feel like it was Thomas in there anymore. He preferred to call him The Man.
He thought it might be because he was coding. He was added to the simulation. He just had to wait for them to shut it down and then he'd be free.
Maybe he'd see the others again.
That might be what happened after death. Otherwise he might be left in a black abyss, or chained to a wall while people yelled at him. Maybe he'd be free to skip in meadows or he'd be forced to perform in front of a laughing crowd.
Maybe he'd see them all again, or maybe he'd never get to say sorry.
He didn't mind.
I suppose that's why he did nothing but stare when he found the simulation crumbling. He waited for it to reach him, smiling, sending one last burst of joy through the empty coding of the simulation.
Finally.
Finally.
He was free.
(A/N: That's all folks!)
