Perfect

A/N: Please enjoy this ridiculously long piece, that just wouldnt end!

~~~~~
It was perfect.
Josh, was perfect.
He was someone I met at the local Cafe, and after bumping into each other a few times, decided to get to know each other a bit more.
That was six months ago, and by now we'd been dating for four months when I realized Valentine's day was in a week.
When I was him next, I didn't even have to say anything. He knew. He just smiled and asked, "Do you wanna go to Griacio next week?"
I smiled. It was a date.
So the day came by, February the 28th.
I got to Griacio late in the evening, and the whole place was decked in red, with hearts hanging from strings and soft music playing.
I looked around and saw Josh.
Going over to him, I sat down.
"Hey," I say, putting a strand of hair behind my ear.
"Hello beautiful," Josh smiled and gently kissed my hand.
My heart fluttered, and I imagined what his lips on mine would feel like. I've never kissed before. Josh'll be my first.
"I have something to tell you," he said, grinning broadly. "I'm engaged!"
My world stopped.
"What?"
"I'm engaged!" He said, laughing happily. "We can finally break up, and I can do it in style."
His words didn't make sense. Nothing made sense!
Josh was still smiling. "Hey, don't look so sad. I know the restaurant's owner, and arranged that you can have anything you want from their menu, my treat!"
His phone dinged, and he checked it before his smile widened. "That's Charice," he said, standing up. "I'll keep in touch, okay? It was wonderful dating you, and I hope you all the best, okay? Bye Kristen!"
And just like that, he left.
I stared at his seat, my mind not able to figure out what just happened. My earnings suddenly felt heavy, and my dress chafed my body.
I jumped out of my seat and ran to the door just in time to see Josh sitting in the passenger seat, as the car drove away.
Charice.
I don't even know what she looks like.
Stumbling back, my back hit a lamppost, and I slid slowly onto the ground.
For a few moments, I didn't feel anything.
Then a hiccup. And a sniff. And suddenly I'm crying.
Big ugly tears streamed down my face, no doubt smearing my mascara, but I couldn't bring myself to care.
Why should I?
Josh is gone.
Suddenly, I felt something wet nudge my cheek, and the next moment, a tongue started lapping up my tears.
Squealing, I fell away from it, just in time to see a man pull the large dog away from me.
"Woah girl, sit. Sit!" The man said, pulling his dog's leash. "I'm so sorry miss, are you alright?"
"I'm fine," I say, almost on autopilot.
The man frowns at me.
His eyes are blue. It's a very pretty blue. The kind glaciers are painted as.
"You don't look fine," he said softly, and after a moment, held out a hand towards me. "Here, let me help you up."
Taking his hand, I let him pull me up.
Standing in front of him now, I suddenly realized what a state I must be in. Blushing, I tried to smooth out my dress and keep any more tears from falling.
It was a losing battle.
"Hey, uh, it's alright," the man gently took my hand when it started shaking. Smiling at me, he tipped his head towards the street. "Want to go get some ice cream with me? There's a vendor in the park that is there till late, we might still catch him."
Still feeling embarrassed, I just nod, but he smiles all the same.
"Great," he said, holding out his hand. "My name's Tim."
"Kristen," I say, and almost jump when the dog nudges my hand. The man, Tim, laughs softly.
"And this is Solari," he said, petting the German Shepherd's head.
"It's nice to meet you both," I say, as we start walking down the street.
To be honest, I don't know what to say next, but Tim is a good talker and leads the conversation with stories of his and Solari's adventures. Apparently, he's just moved into town and is still getting a "lay of the land," as he calls it.
Quickly, I relax, and when I check my makeup in a pocket mirror while he gets us our ice cream, well, neither mentions it.
By now it is well and truly dark, with only the lamp lights to guide us.
We find a park bench, and Tim lets Solari off the leash.
We sit in silence for a few moments.
"So, why were you crying?"
I freeze up.
"It's okay if you don't want to say, I understand. I  can tell you about my sister if you want?"
I think about it for a while, considering the out he's giving me. But then I let out my breath and shake my head.
"My boyfriend broke up with me," I say, and I feel him sucking in a breath. "We've been dating for four months. So imagine my surprise, when he not only broke up with me tonight but also told me he is engaged."
Tim is silent next to me, and I continue softly. "I thought he was the one, you know."
A laugh, a hollow, wet thing. "I've never kissed anyone before. I thought tonight would be the night. Valentine's day romance, you know? Now, I guess it's not going to happen."
We were silent for a while.
"Do you still want it?"
"What?" I'm confused.
"Do you still want it?" Tim asks, his eyes are soft. "Because you are beautiful, Kristen. I've only spent a few hours in your company, and already I can tell you're an amazing person, and I apologize if this is not what you want, but I've wanted it since I was you laying beneath the lamplight. You looked ethereal. Stunning. A vision."
My eyes were starting to tear up again. "Tim, I don't..."
Then he kissed me.
It was nothing like the movies said. They were no fireworks, no romantic music, nothing.
Just us.
It's perfect.
