Cool Britannia
Definition and Info (taken from Wikipedia): Cool Britannia was the name for a period of increased pride in the culture of the United Kingdom throughout the mid to late 1990's, inspired loosely by the "Swinging London" culture of the 1960's. Cool Britannia saw British culture rise as a major pop-culture export to the rest of the world.
The Cool Britannia movement is generally considered to have begun with the election of Tony Blair as Leader of the Labour Party in 1994 and to have peaked with the 1997 General Election, in which Blair and Labour achieved a landslide victory, knocking Prime Minister John Major and his Conservative Party from power. The 'Britpop' music genre was the backbone and driving force of Cool Britannia. A spin-off cultural movement in Wales began during this same period known as 'Cool Cymru'.
By 1998, Cool Britannia began to decline as a cultural phenomenon, and the Britpop genre gave way to 'Post-Britpop' which continued into the mid- 2000's
