Chapter XIV

"What!? I had a feeling!" Iris's voice carried through the phone, hurting my ear as I listened. "And not only that, the reason you wanted to confess quickly was that you wanted Kevin not to worry about you and get a girlfriend himself? Honestly, I feel sorry for Gray."

"I know! I do too." I cried, screaming into my pillow after. I regretted ever thinking that.

"That's why I told you to wait and get to know Gray a bit better. Romance doesn't come that quickly, you know." She began to lecture me. "Not only that, having a crush on your childhood friend? That's something hard to get over."

"I know. And I did like Gray, a little. It still hurts to know that I was rejected." I rubbed my puffy eyes. He was nice and cool. I thought it would be nice having a boyfriend like him versus a pervert like Jax.

"Wait, so how much, on a scale of one to ten, do you like him?" Iris questioned.

"Maybe a five?"

"Wow. That much?"

"As I said before, I already like Gray. I just wanted to date him to get to know him better and increase my love for him." I explained. "But he already has someone he likes..." I started to cry again.

"Wait. There might be an actual chance that you might win." Iris came up with an idea.

"What do you mean?" I took a tissue to blow my nose.

"We know about the first and second party, right? We don't know anything about the third party yet."

"You mean Jax?"

"Exactly. We don't know anything about his feelings yet." Iris excitedly told me.

I, however, remembered that there was a possibility that Jax might have liked Gray. "Actually, Iris, there might be a possibility that he also liked Gray."

"What?" She screamed into the microphone again. "Maple, if I were to say something about your assumptions it would be that you are very bad at judging others. Everything you judge them for turns out wrong."

"What?! What about Gray? I guessed that he liked someone when I confessed to him." I was offended.

"But that was when you confessed. Did you know before?" Iris did make a good point.

"That...is true." I hesitantly agreed with her.

"Well then, there you have it. Jax's feelings are still out in the open. If he liked Charlotte just as she does with him, then you will be able to hit the jackpot with Gray. Don't you think that will be great?"

"Yeah, but how do I set them up without being too obvious. Not only that how will I do it where I can keep Gray away from them?" I plopped backward onto my bed facing the ceiling. At this point, Iris really felt like she was my marriage counselor or something.

"I have a plan. I happen to have tickets for an amusement park. More specifically, four tickets."

"Oh! Nice." I sinisterly laughed.

That was the new plan.

"Jax!" I walked up to him as he was adjusting his microphone. He looked at my grinning face, wondering what I was up to.

"Are you up to no good or something?" He questioned.

"Not really. I just wanted to invite you to come with me to the amusement park, the weekend after the next gig."

He then squinted his eyes at me. "Just the two of us?"

"No, with Gray and Charlotte. I have yet to ask them, but I wanted to get to know Charlotte better, so I thought it would be good to bring her childhood friends along so she wouldn't be too lonely with just me and her." I explained.

"Oh, I see." He continued adjusting his microphone after hearing my explanation. "Then better ask Gray and Charlotte before they make any plans."

"Alright." I swallowed a bunch of nothing in my throat as I looked over at Gray, who was fixing his bass.

"Gray?" I questioned, scaring him a bit. He looked over at me and then quickly averted his eyes.

"You need something, Maple?" He questioned, not looking me in the eyes.

"I was wondering if you would like to go to the amusement park after the next gig. Ah, with Jax and Charlotte though." I quickly added in that last part. If he thought we were going alone together, then he would refuse. I didn't want him to.

"If it's with Charlotte and Jax..." He still didn't look at me in the eyes when answering. But I was just happy he was at least talking to me.

"Alright." I nodded my head. "Is it alright if I could have Charlotte's Line?"

"You could ask her yourself..." He finished, realizing that what he said sounded a bit mean. "I mean that she's coming to visit today. She doesn't have any club today." He scratched his head and blushed.

"I understand." I felt that the closeness we had before disintegrated. It was my fault. I shouldn't have been so selfish.

I left Gray's side walking over to my station. I picked up my guitar and strummed it, noticing that some of the notes were out of tune. As I started tuning it, suddenly a new face appeared.

"Good afternoon." Charlotte walked in slowly, like a young mistress. The way how she walked was more feminine than how I did. It left a weird feeling in my heart.

"You're here Charlotte?" Both Gray and Jax said, running to her, taking her bags. I would say that this was expected from friends, but it wasn't. They both were treating her like she was a princess.

As I was trying to keep down my jealousy, I remembered that I wanted to ask for her ID.

"Charlotte!" I took off the guitar strap from my shoulder and ran over to her. "Is it alright if I can have your Line?"

"Sure, but why?" She asked.

"I wanted to invite you to come with Jax, Gray, and me to the amusement park in two weeks. Is that alright?" I smiled.

"Oh, sure." She nodded her head.

"Maple here wants to get to know you better, Charlotte." Jax rested his arm around my neck and then rubbed my head, messing up my hair I took so long to fix up this morning.

"I would love to get to know you better too, Maple." She grinned.

"That means it's a date!" I excitedly blurted.

All was going according to plan so far.
