Chapter XI

"Maple!" Kevin yelled as he ran to the bench I was sitting on. "What happened? I thought you were going to the after-party."

"I am," I answered. I took off my makeup before he came so that I would look decent out in public. I then looked down at my hands that I clasped together. "I just did something stupid, so I need you to take me there. You are invited, by the way."

"Oh? That's nice. Shall we go then?" Kevin took my bag out of my hand and carried it on his shoulder. I then followed out to where his car was.

Kevin then opened the door for me to sit inside. After Kevin walked around the car to the driver's seat, I then began talking again.

"Did you know I threw up earlier?" I told him once he sat down.

He looked at me with a shocked to a worried to a concerned expression. "Are you alright?"

I then nodded my head and furrowed my eyebrows. "I'm fine now."

I wanted to take my mind off of Charlotte for a while, but she seemed to continue popping back into my head. Every time I remember about me trying to fix my makeup, she shows up. When I tried to think about Gray, she shows up. What was wrong with this? This was like jealousy to the max.

"I hate this..." I murmured under a whisper that Kevin somehow heard.

His eyes started to fill with tears. I then realized that he must have thought I had been talking about him.

"Oh, not you, Kevin. I still love you." I made sure to clear up the situation.

However, sniffling, Kevin started the car, and we made our way to the party.

We arrived at the party venue that one of the neighbors had set up for us. I was thankful that we had an owner who owned a place like this. If not, then it would have been a restaurant or something like that.

Walking through the doors, we met up with Mr. Lemon. "Thank goodness you are here, Maple."

My eyes widened with the raising of my eyebrows when he handed me a dark blue dress.

"Here. You need to change into this before the other guests come. Since the sponsor for us is the owner of this place, he expects it to be a fancy party with us included to wear fancy attire." Mr. Lemon began pushing me towards a room, leaving poor Kevin who was already depressed alone.

"Hurry and change!" Mr. Lemon closed the door behind me, giving me the privacy to change.

After I heard his footsteps gradually move away from the door, I began changing into the dress. It was a pretty one with star prints on the bottom of the dress. It had a ring strap around my neck with the chest and the back material to lay around it. It gave my shoulders an airy sensation.

After putting it on, I heard a knock at the door. I quickly ran over to open it and was surprised to see who it was.

"Gray?" My eyes widened.

"Oh, you made it Maple. I'm happy." He smiled. I didn't expect him to be happy to see me, but it made me happy.

"What are you doing here?" I asked, trying to hide the blush that began forming on my cheeks.

"Trying to hide from the people who are coming in." He closed the door behind himself. "At the moment, Jax is PRing (Personal Relations) with them. Kai suddenly disappeared somewhere I don't know. So it's just me who doesn't like to converse with others."

"What about Charlotte?" I clasped my hands together, hoping that he wouldn't change his mind to hang out with her.

"She is with her parents at the moment. So it seems like just me and you now, huh?"

I felt a big sense of relief fill up my heart. It was bad of me to feel this way, but I just wanted to be allowed to once. Was it wrong to want the guy you like to stay by your side rather than his childhood friend?

"I see. Were you able to see what type of food they have out there?" I sat down on one of the waiting chairs in the room.

Gray then walked over and sat down with me, trying to keep me company. "Yeah. They were bringing in loads of pizza and sushi. It's a weird combination, but I suppose it's what the people want." Gray let out a contagious laugh, causing me to follow.

Suddenly, music began playing. That must have meant the guests started coming. As the music continued, I began hearing Jax's muffled voice join it. It wasn't a rock song but rather it was opera music.

"Jax is singing opera?" I questioned. It was the first time I heard his voice like this, so it was weird.

"Yeah. You didn't know? Jax's mom used to be an opera singer who was sponsored by the man who owns this place. But after his mom became pregnant with him, she had to quit. She didn't want her talented voice to go to waste, so she taught Jax how to sing just as if she were a vocal coach. Jax didn't hate learning, but his mom regretted teaching him. It wasn't because she felt that he wasn't talented, but she took his childhood away. Every day they would practice with weekends as breaks. But because of all that practice, Jax is on tier with other professional singers."

"Wow." I sat there in awe. So he had a similar to me, but more intense. His mom taught him without him asking, and Kevin taught me, but I asked him. It was understandable that the mother would feel bad about doing something like that, feeling like she pushed her dream on him so that she wouldn't lose it.

"Yeah, so the guy who is holding the party tonight is the one who is sponsoring us now. History repeats itself it seems." Gray put both of his hands behind his head, but then came up with an idea. "Hey, why don't we dance together before we have to go out and conversate?"

"Dance?" I questioned, almost laughing at his idea.

"Come on, it will be fun to spend the time." He grabbed my hand in a princess style and helped me up to my feet.

He then interlocked his fingers between mine and put his hand around my waist. In turn, I rest my right hand onto his shoulder. We both smiled at each other, giggling as we took the first steps. We glided our way through the room, my dress swaying on the marble floor and Gray's shoes clacking. The turns and spins we made added wind to our hair, causing it to bounce with every move.

The smiles that were plastered on our face wasn't something that would be taken off that easily. Even when the song finished and it was a cue for us to finally accept reality and fate to talk with others, we still kept it.

"See you later then?" Gray had droplets of sweat rolling down his cheeks.

"Yes." I agreed. I hoped that I wasn't perspiring.

We both exited the room into the big marbled entrance.
