Chapter I

"Maple, ready to go?" My best friend, Iris, ran up to me, slamming her hand on my desk to watch my attention. I looked up, which the force of doing so caused my curly, orange hair to bounce. I took special care of my hair just for today. Iris and I had decided to go to the newest coffee shop that opened not too long ago. It looked so cute in the magazine, so I asked her if we could go today. Thankfully she agreed.

"Yes!" I smiled with eagerness. I didn't sleep at all last night because I was excited about this day. Not to mention, I woke up at four specifically picking out a cute pink dress that would match with my curled hair. I also paired it with a black headband that was accessorized with a pink bow that matched the color of my outfit.

"Wow, you are really dressed up, aren't you. It's not like we are dating or anything." Iris teased, causing me to puff out my cheeks and sneer at her.

"I know! I am just hoping that if I go to this cute coffee shop, maybe some handsome guy will come and ask me out, or something." I clasped my hands together and lifted my head to the ceiling, begging God for a special chance to meet my soulmate.

"In your dreams, Maple. Anyway, let's just go." Iris began walking ahead of me. I watched her back for a bit before following her right after.

I knew she wasn't wrong. What was the chance of me getting a boyfriend anyway? In the 15 years of my life, I've never had a boyfriend ever. Not even once. Even Kai had a girlfriend. He was younger than me by 3 minutes! I was supposed to be the one with a girlfriend first. Life was not fair at all.

I let out a sigh as I looked around the scenery that followed Iris and me to the shop. It was pretty since the cherry blossoms were blooming. I hoped that this year we would be able to do the cherry blossom viewing, but Mom said she had to work, and Kai also had something to do with his band. It made me feel all lonely again this year. No boy would want to see the cherry blossoms with me, especially since I was so desperate to have at least one guy like me. I was even tempted to pick up some guy from the street and beg him to go with me. But that would only lead to my sorrow.

I looked to my left as we passed by this one pretty boy. His face was very good-looking. His blond hair complemented his complexion well with his green eyes. His silver earrings shined under the sun. It was a good color up against his pale skin. He was totally my type.

"Wow." I gasped a bit at his beauty, causing him to look at me. His attention was off of the girl he was with and was focused on me as we walked by each other. His eyes followed me, but after a point where he had to turn his head, he looked back at the girl.

"I'm sorry. I'm sorry." He apologized to the girl who was pouting. I quickly turned my face forward so he would think of me as weird for staring at him. I heard my heart beating rapidly, to which I took in deep breaths to calm down.

"Are you alright, Maple?" Iris turned around to check on me. "Your face is a bit red."

"Is it?" I flinched. I didn't even notice it was. I thought that only my heart was beating. Man, it would have been nice if that guy was single. I would have totally confessed to him.

"Do you need an ice pack?" Iris pressed the back of her hand to feel my head, making sure I didn't have a fever.

"I am fine," I explained to her. I didn't want her to know about the guy who I thought was hot. She would turn on her mom mode and tell me that falling in love too easily wasn't good for me. "I think we should just hurry to the coffee shop."

"Oh, yeah." She looked at me, confused.

We then made our way to the cute coffee shop. It was somewhat of a Japanese style, but it was also added with some cherry blossom decorations since it was March. The smell of the coffee increased as we walked into the shop.

"It smells so nice..." Iris closed her eyes and shot her nose into the air, taking a deep whiff of the smell that filled her mind with the thought of which coffee she wanted. "Should I have a frappuccino? Or maybe a cappuccino?"

"I don't know; That's up to you," I, just like Iris, was also enchanted by the smell of the coffee. However, I shook my head to break out of the coffee trance and looked for a place to seat.

The chairs and tables in the shop were just as cute as the shop outside. The cherry wood complimented the pink walls well.

"Shall we sit down?" I smiled at Iris, who had finally opened up her eyes.

"Yeah." She nodded in agreement.

We both walked to the seats near the window the opened up the view of the outer seats for those who wanted to sit outside and bask in the falling cherry blossoms. It was a nice view, though it was annoying being able to see people eat.

"What may I get for you?" The waiter came up to our table, smiling just as he was ordered to do for his boss.

Iris and I both looked into the menus that were placed in front of us, judging which drink was more picturesque and cute. I happened to stumble upon a macchiato that was topped with a cute cat whipped cream figure that caught my eye. My eyes beamed t how cute it was, causing me to have the urge to get it.

"Can I have the Neko-Macchiato, please?" I asked him, shining my glowing green eyes.

"Of course!" He happily wrote down the order. "And you, miss?" He focused his attention on Iris, who was still trying to figure out of she wanted a cool or hot drink.

"Hmmm," she began rubbing her chin, finally deciding on one of the drinks, "I'll have the strawberry drink, please."

"Of course! I shall bring your drinks in about 5 minutes. Please be patient." The waiter bowed and then left.

I slowly moved in closer to Iris as she followed, questioning what I was doing. "I thought you wanted coffee," I whispered.

"So did I until I saw the pink strawberry drink. You even get a cherry blossom print cup with it." She grinned knowing that she had hit a jackpot.

"Lucky!" I pouted.

Iris and I then sat quietly waiting for our drinks to come. I decided to look outside while Iris decided to read one of those "celebrity gossip" magazines.

My mind drifted off when I looked up at the clouds. The picture of that hot boy filled the sky. It was a once-in-a-lifetime chance I would see someone that handsome. And he had a girl. Girls always went for those types of guys. It was a battlefield. If we were allowed to have shotguns in the war of love, it would be used often.

I continued to doze off a bit, but then my eyes drifted back to the tables that were outside. When I moved my eyes towards the center, I noticed a face that was scrunched up against the window. It looked pretty ugly, and I was able to see up his nose. It took me a while before realizing that he was in front of me, staring.

"Ahhhhh!" I screamed at the top of my lungs, plunging myself backwards, almost falling out of my chair.

The boy then also flinched back, and I was able to hear his scream through the window. Following his scream was a big crash sound that came from behind me. I quickly turned around and saw that the waiter had dropped Iris's and my drinks on the floor. It was a big disaster.

I then closed my eyes and hoped that everything would turn out fine.
