One of our sheikh, Hafiz Syed Abdullaah ibn Abdul Qadir said when asked about celebrating Meelad un Nabi,

"Celebrating it on one particular day does not show your love of beloved Prophet Muhammed salla Allahu alayhi wa sallam . That is not true ishq e Nabi. If you have real ishq e Nabi, then you wouldn't forget him even a single day, but celebrate it the whole year as you follow his every Sunnah -- imitating his actions in everything you do, improving your akhlaq because that is what Mustafa salla Allahu alayhi wa sallam wanted you to do and sending lots of Durood and Salaam upon him every day more than any duas you ask for yourself and finally, always loving him more than your wealth, spouse, children, family and your own self. That is true ishq e Nabi."
