A PLANE CRASH DESTROYS CASSANDRA GREY'S LIFE.

In the aftermath, everything that she'd planned for her life—becoming a board-certified trauma surgeon, marrying her long-term partner, growing old with her sisters by her side—becomes unattainable.

Grief has her in a chokehold, constantly pressing down on her. Cassandra would've followed her twin sister to the ends of the universe, but she can't follow her in death—yet. Even her best days are weighed down, a constant reminder that she's nothing more than an empty shell of who she used to be. Half-human. Decaying even as her heart continues beating.

She dreams of the day that death welcomes her home.

In the meantime, she's determined to make the most of her life by helping save people, and where better to do that than New York City's SVU Unit? It's a dream, being over 2,000 miles from Seattle, and being known as something other than a tragedy.

Getting transferred out after two years is a nightmare until she learns that she'll be helping the Behavioral Analysis Unit capture serial killers. She's prepared to prove herself for this coveted role—she's not prepared for how much of a family her new team is, or how they make her want to live again.

At the heart of that is Spencer Reid, the team's youngest member, who makes her traitorous heart beat beat beat every time he smiles.

Maybe life isn't too bad, when her new best friend is the living embodiment of sunlight.

trigger warnings: this story is going to deal with dark subject matters that fall in line with criminal minds; rape, murder, kidnapping, torture, etc. it will also deal with death and grief and PTSD. there will of course be light moments, but i'm writing from the perspective of a grieving, traumatized character: there are moments of suicidal ideation etc. i'll do my best to tag the chapters ahead of time, but please keep this all in mind!

spoilers: this is a crossover fic between criminal minds, greys anatomy, and (to a lesser extent) law & order: svu! major spoilers for greys anatomy season 8 and beyond, and in general for criminal minds & svu. were starting this fanfic in season one of criminal minds, so keep in mind that i'll be following some episodes in more detail than others.

general: i started planning this fic months ago. imagine my excitement when sophia bush joined the cast of greys anatomy, playing a trauma surgeon named cass who kisses teddy altman!! as im over here with my WIP of a bisexual trauma surgeon turned FBI agent named cassandra with sophia as the face claim. i CHEERED for that announcement. fingers crossed that she'll save teddy from owen 🤞🤞

seriously though i am SO excited for this story. i've loved criminal minds for years but never had the true inspiration for a fic until now. i'm so excited. i already love cassandra so much.
