{~Chapter 1~}

"No, Lionpaw! Not like that!" Sunflywing hissed at her apprentice. Lionpaw stared back at Sunflywing.

"Sorry, Sunflywing..." he murmured, dropping his head. Sunflywing let out an annoyed hiss. Why did Gorsestar have to give me Lionpaw as an apprentice? She wondered. She let out a sigh "Just... Try again, will you?"

Lionpaw nodded, walking on the far edge of the training arena. It was late Greenleaf in the forest and Sunflywing was stuck training her apprentice, Lionpaw. Adderwing and his apprentice, Willowpaw, had joined them.

Adderwing padded over to Sunflywing, staring at her with worried eyes "Why don't you show him how to do it again? Maybe that'll help him get it right." he suggested, flicking one ear towards Lionpaw.

Sunflywing bit back the urge to snap at the dark ginger tom, slowly nodding her head "Fine, but that's the last time I'm showing him." she grumbled, getting to her paws. She trotted over to Lionpaw, leaving Adderwing.

"Stop what you're doing and look at me," she ordered him, baring her teeth. Lionpaw stared up at Sunflywing, straightening up. Sunflywing stared down at him "This is the last time I'm going to show you how to do this, Lionpaw."

He nodded, keeping his gaze on his mentor. Sunflywing crouched down, getting ready to show him something "Picture an enemy warrior coming towards you from behind, check how far away they are from your hind legs and-"

Sunflywing kicked her back legs out, her claws unsheathed "And kick! Just like that, do you think you can do it?" Sunflywing asked, a small smile on her face. Lionpaw watched her, nodding his head.

Sunflywing moved aside, letting Lionpaw try. She sat down, waiting. Lionpaw got up, going into Sunflywing's place. He crouched down, looking over his shoulder. Sunflywing watched, flicking her tail impatiently.

Finally, he kicked, his claws unsheathed. Sunflywing was pleased this time "Good." she praised him, getting to her paws. Lionpaw smiled up at Sunflywing, acting as if this was the first compliment that she had ever given him.

She turned around, staring at Adderwing and Willowpaw "Ready to head back to camp?" she asked, staring at the two cats. Adderwing turned and stared at Sunflywing and Lionpaw. He nodded his head.

"We're ready when you are." Adderwing responded, Willowpaw coming over to his side. Sunflywing nodded, flicking her tail to Lionpaw. The four cats began to make their way back to the CedarClan camp.

Adderwing took the lead, Willowpaw and Lionpaw following behind, and Sunflywing taking the rear. She followed the three other cats, her head low. She could faintly hear Lionpaw and Willowpaw talking to each other, their heads close together.

She flicked her ear, her expression grim. Adderwing stared back at them, a smile on his face. Sunflywing glared at him, narrowing her eyes. I don't trust him. She thought, keeping her eyes on him once he turned around.

Sunflywing didn't seem to trust anyone, not even cats from her own Clan. It seemed strange how she made it seem like she was an outcast. And yet, she wasn't an outcast at the same time. She, however, felt like an outcast no matter what.

Sunflywing continued to walk through CedarClan territory, staying behind everyone else. They passed through a cleared-out area where the river was. It was small, but there were enough fish to eat.

Sunflywing preferred vole instead of fish. She stared at the river's surface, seeing the sun reflect off of it. She paused, staring at the water. She couldn't help but feel mesmerized by it "Sunflywing! Are you coming?"

She snapped her attention over to Lionpaw "Yeah, I'll catch up with you guys later, don't worry." she told him. Lionpaw stared over at Willowpaw, the she-cat only giving off a shrug. The two apprentices trotted after Adderwing.

Sunflywing was now left alone, the sound of the river breaking the silence. She crouched down, her ears perked up as she listened to the sounds of the forest. She began to lap up some of the water, feeling the water flow through her body.

A twig snapped, making her jump. She looked around, ready in case something attacked her. Her pelt prickled as she saw something move from out of the bushes on the other side of the river.

A rusty grey tom padded out from the bushes, staring at Sunflywing. The tom dipped his head respectfully "Sunflywing," he meowed a greeting. Sunflywing dipped her head back "Lakesong." she greeted.

Lakesong was the PondClan deputy and the mentor to an apprentice named Rootpaw. She stared at him, slowly calming down "What are you doing so close to the border?" Sunflywing asked.

Lakesong took two pawsteps forward, the bushes behind him swishing again. 3 different cats followed behind Lakesong, Sunflywing recognizing every one of them. She backed away a little, wondering if this was an ambush.

She glared at Lakesong, narrowing her eyes "We wish to speak to Gorsestar. We have an important message for him." Lakesong explained. Sunflywing didn't have a patrol to guard them, but she shrugged it off. She didn't need a patrol's help.

She flicked her tail, allowing them to come over the border. Lakesong smiled at her, dipping his head. The deputy leaped over the river, his warriors following him. Sunflywing waited for them to make it over to the other side before trotting towards camp.

Let's hope we don't meet a patrol. She thought, her grim eyes looking around the forest. She led Lakesong and his warriors back towards camp. She looked back once in a while to make sure they were still behind her.

A soft breeze ruffled all of the cats' fur, Sunflywing picking up a familiar scent as it blew "Patrol!" she exclaimed quietly. All her senses were alert. Lakesong tilted his head "What's the problem?" Lakesong asked, confused.

She glared back at him. This mouse-brain! She wanted to hiss at him, but she stayed quiet "Nothing, just follow me." Sunflywing responded coldly. She began to lead them again towards the CedarClan camp.

Suddenly, a bush swished, making her jump. Hazelscar, Shrewpaw, Weaselshine, and Flintcloud came from out of the bush, glaring at the patrol of cats. Hazelscar glared at Lakesong, her pelt bristling.

"Care to explain why they're here?" she hissed, turning to Sunflywing. She stared up at the ginger she-cat "They're only here to speak with Gorsestar." Sunflywing responded. Hazelscar glared back at Lakesong and his patrol.

She stared at them for a moment, her gaze narrowed. Finally, Hazelscar flicked her tail, walking towards camp "Let's go." she growled, turning away. Sunflywing stared after them, deciding to take the rear.

I could have done it myself.
