Chapter Seventeen: A Lost Warrior

The night of the Gathering...

Sunblaze was grooming her ruffled fur. Since LightningClan had been discovered, Sparkstar decided to attend the moonly Gatherings with the other clans. Bramblestar had explained to Sparkstar that there was a truce for that night of no violence. He also explained that if violence did happen, a cloud would cover the moons to dismiss the clans. Sparkstar seemed to understand fairly well the terms of this and had warned his clan of the truce.
"This isn't my first Gathering," Sunblaze snapped irritably when Sparkstar reminded her not to fight. "I'm sorry. It's my first Gathering so... I'm a bit nervous. What if I give too much information? What if the other clans don't like us? It's all so new... So big," Sparkstar meowed. Sunblaze looked at him and said, "I shouldn't have been that harsh. Sorry." Sparkstar's eyes sparkled with pleasure. "Come on, I think it's time to go to the Gathering," Bramblestar yowled after he had finished speaking with Dewfrost and Hareleap.
The island that Sunblaze knew so well came into vision as soon as they crossed the rough hills that shielded LightningClan camp. The fallen tree-bridge was still there, though it was beginning to rot. Sparkstar let out a choked gasp as he took it all in. "I've been confined for so long... I can't believe this is really what's happened in all the moons... All the heartache," he whispered. Sunblaze nodded and smiled. "It's different... Somehow. I can't quite tell how but I know something's different," she whispered. Sparkstar turned and faced his clan. "Remember that there is a truce tonight. Even though tension seems at a bursting point between all the clans, I do not want to see any- any- fighting," he yowled to them. His eyes flickered to Sunblaze's apprentice who had slid his claws out. Sunblaze laid her tail on Applepaw's shoulder. "This is your first, isn't it? Don't be the cause to go home," she hissed.  Applepaw nodded and sheathed his claws.
The fallen tree-bridge rocked and swayed as Sunblaze began to edge along it. She closed herbvc eyes and began to spring along it like a squirrel. She landed with a muffled thump against the pebbles of the island's shore. Applepaw landed rather awkwardly beside her and let out a startled squeak as his paw got jabbed on a sharp stone. He licked his pad quickly and padded after his clanmates. Sparkstar led the clans to a grassy patch of the island and instructed the warriors of LightningClan to sit. Bramblestar did the same for ThunderClan and told LightningClan's deputy, Moonclaw, to sit where he was told and turned to LightningClan's medicine cat. "Eagleswoop, sit at the roots of our part of the tree." Eagleswoop obeyed Bramblestar and lifted herself from the ground and plopped on the ground at the roots of the tree. Sunblaze sat down with her apprentice and watched as Sparkstar attempted a mighty leap onto the branch that Bramblestar indicated. He succeeded, but barely. Blackstar and Mistystar sat with scowls on their faces as Sparkstar's tail streamed above their heads, sending leaves into their muzzles and grit into their eyes. Onestar hissed as Sparkstar's leg suddenly slipped from his branch and hit him on the head. Sunblaze winced at her mate's ungraceful behavior, but she kept silent. Once Sparkstar was settled, the Gathering began.
"Since the battle, WindClan has done well and prey is running finely," Onestar reported, then he dipped his head to Mistystar. "RiverClan has suffered the loss of our dear warrior Pigeonwing. Other than that, we are able to go to sleep well fed because of the repopulation of fish this past moon," she said. Mistystar flicked her tail in Bramblestar's direction. "I think Sparkstar should give the report," he mewed. Sparkstar looked shocked. "Very well. Sparkstar? How are things in LightningClan?" Blackstar hissed. "S-since the battle, o-our warriors have grown strong and healthy. W-we have had no casualties this moon. StarClan has been good to us," Sparkstar stammered. Blackstar nodded his head and stood up on his branch, declaring, "We in ShadowClan have suffered one great loss of one of our warriors. As you may know, Cindertail is unable to speak. Someone left her throat scarred, damaging her voice. The cat who did this, from my understanding, is named Sunblaze. We can promise you that if this cat is seen on our territory, she will not be chased out; she will be punished by ShadowClan."
Sunblaze's eyes widened in fear. Applepaw looked up at her. "Y-you muted her?" he gasped. Sunblaze glared at him. "Do you think I meant to?" she hissed. Sparkstar's eyes were stretched widely in shock. "I would like for Sunblaze to step forward," Blackstar yowled. Sparkstar gave him an angry look. "Why? She must have been spotted by every single warrior of your clan because of how you took her hostage!" he yowled. Blackstar smirked. "For the sake of the other clans," he mewed in a smart way. "They must have spotted her in the battle!" Brambestar hissed. Clouds wavered threateningly in the sky. Sunblaze could hear claws being unsheathed and she could feel eyes turn towards her, but Sunblaze kept her head high. Applepaw gulped and continued to listen to the other leaders. "Blackstar, there is no need for this aggressiveness. Besides, ShadowClan does not decide the punishment of cats outside their clan. The best you can do for intruders is to chase them out," Mistystar growled, but continued with, "Also, I did not send my warriors into this battle. Those warriors that came were traitors among RiverClan." Onestar's eyes lit with rage. "Nor did I!" he yowled. A dark cloud came close to the moon. Sunblaze took in a breath. Claws were being scraped threateningly around Sunblaze. Blackstar yowled, "I want to see Sunblaze! Now!" The cloud drew closer and closer. "Sunblaze! Step forth!" Blackstar continued to screech. The cloud's tips began to cover the moon. "Just go, Sunblaze!" Applepaw hissed. Sunblaze stretched out a paw, but even before she took a step, Blackstar's gaze shot on her. "You deserve my punishment, Sunblaze. You know now that you are unwelcome to any of the clans," he growled. His claws slid out and he pounced from his branch. "Stop!" a voice called. Blackstar swung to face the tree he had just leapt out of. "Blackstar, do you want to anger StarClan?" Mistystar was hissing. Blackstar growled and swung around to face Sunblaze. "She hurt one of my clanmates and one of my warriors. Her punishment is deserved," he spat. Mistystar growled. "Leave her alone," she growled. Blackstar hissed and looked at his clan. "We're going home," he growled. Mistystar took her clan as did Onestar. Bramblestar just sat with a horrified expression. Sparkstar was staring at Sunblaze. The island was silent.
"D-did you really do that, Sunblaze?" Oneclaw mewed. Anger raged through Sunblaze. "Did you mean to?" Thistlethorn hissed. Sunblaze stood up. "Of course I didn't!" she yelled, rage boiling through her veins. She wished that all the cats around her would be quiet. She needed to cope with the thought that a very powerful leader had decided to potentially kill her if she set paw on their territory if she was found. Sunblaze was grateful when Sparkstar announced for the clan to return to their territory.
Sunblaze buried her nose into her nest the second she arrived at camp. Falconfur soon lied beside her. "It's not your fault Blackstar's a jerk," Falconfur hissed. Sunblaze grunted. Falconfur pressed her fur beside her littermate. Sunblaze scooted away and pretended.  to be asleep. Falconfur hissed and fell asleep, but she, even in her sleep, seemed agitated. Sunblaze growled and clawed her mossy nest. She just wanted for this to be forgotten. Angry and drowsy, Sunblaze let herself be captured by sleep.
Sunblaze's dreams were filled with terror. A gray cat with dark stripes prowled around, hidden by the shadows except for their dark, green eyes. Their claws glinted in the moonlight, and their breathing was harsh. Sunblaze shuddered in her sleep uncomfortably. The mysterious cat's words were slurred and stringed together. Something sounded, "Find... Destroy..." Very creepy dialogue followed. The only words that came into purely audible were, "I won't go undefeated. I will find her."
Sunblaze jumped up out of her nest. Falconfur stirred uncomfortably. The moon was long gone, and the sun shone radiantly on the world. Skylark was sorting herbs at the entrance of the medicine cat den, muttering. Falconfur padded out of the warrior's den and stood by Sunblaze. Sunblaze felt guilty as she saw her sister take a step to the side. Skylark looked up and purred as she saw Falconfur go to greet her, and Sunblaze followed. "Falconfur! I was needing to get some more thyme and comfrey. Will you help me go get some?" Skylark asked. Falconfur dipped her head. "Sure! We can go now if you want," she mewed. Skylark nodded. She turned to Sunblaze. "I think we can manage just the two of us," she meowed. Sunblaze nodded. Skylark looked around. "I have a strange feeling about today," she said. Sunblaze touched noses with her sisters. "I'm sure it will all be okay," she whispered. Skylark looked skeptical, but she turned to leave LightningClan with Falconfur following her.

Later that evening...

Sunblaze bit off a bit of a mouse she was eating when a piercing shriek echoed through the cave. She shot up and looked to see Falconfur tearing through the camp. She was battle torn in a terribly fatal condition. Redfur charged to meet her and yowled when he saw her. "Skylark... Dead," she whimpered. "Rouge... Snakefang... Be careful," she continued. Sunblaze whisked over to help her, but it was too late; Falconfur had collapsed and her eyes rolled into the back of her head. Sunblaze had lost both of her sisters in the same day.

Oh my word I am so so so sorry I had to kill of all these characters:
Briarpatch
Goldenclaw (well you didn't get much of him)
Falconfur (sob)
Skylark (;~;)
Littlefang
Ect

My reason why: I had to fulfill the prophecy, and because I'm running out of materials to write with, Falconfur and Skylark had to go. The prophecy was After the flight of the falcon and the lark of the sky, hope will come with the blaze of the sun.

Do not hesitate to suggest more on Snakefang, but please refrain from hating.
