Chapter 8

"Ragini." She stared up to the side after hearing her name, following her gazes Sanskaar turned in the same direction too. "Get up, let's go home now." Sujata leaned forward, helping Ragini stand up while Sanskaar blinked at her, trying to analyse her expressions to see how she was feeling after the disclosure.

"Mom." He stood up straight after and continued staring at Sujata's face. Sujata made eye contact with him, "I didn't hear anything." Sujata made clear and then made eye contact with a surprised Ragini. Sanskaar was relieved yet surprised by Sujata's words.

Sujata held Ragini's hand firmly and took her with him. "Mistakes happen Ragini. We're all human at the end of the day, no one is perfect." She spoke and started walking, taking Ragini with her. "Sanskaar made a mistake, you made a mistake, even I make mistakes. But what makes us better is that we try to rectify it. Don't dwell too deep in the past. It's understandable, somethings quick decisions like these are made because of the pain and sufferings that stab your heart. It sometimes turn into someone you don't want to be." She further adds in a calm demeanour, making Ragini's eyes water again. "I won't say forgive us, but please don't let the pain take away the opportunity of you living your life Ragini."

Ragini lowers her gazes, processing what Sujata was saying while Sanskaar followed them behind. Sujata helped Ragini sit in the car and closed the door, she then sat in the passengers seat and closed the door, putting her seatbelt on.

"You need time Ragini. Take your time to calm down and figure out what you want." Sujata explained and Sanskaar sat inside the car too, closing the door and putting his seatbelt on, starting to drive.

Despite being angry, confused, frustrated, sad and heartbroken, Sujata understood the depth of this situation. She knew that being aggressive towards any of them would result in negativity, she had to be the mature one and handle both of them differently, mainly with what they can endure. After thorough thinking of Ragini's situation, Sujata had calmed herself down and decided to approach her. She acknowledges that mistakes were made from both sides, her son was in the wrong and so was Ragini but two wrongs won't make a right, unless they rectify it. She fully understands that her son may have been the fire that burned Ragini's morality, which stopped helping her distinguish between what's right and wrong. In the end, it was always gonna be 'if Sanskaar didn't. . .' And to end that, she had to be the elder one and help the two move away from their dark past to shape their bright future. She is willing to forget she heard anything and live a calm and peaceful life with her son and her daughter-in-law. She imagined, 'just like Sanskaar went astray because I wasn't there to guide him, could it be the same for Ragini? If her mother was with her, she would've guided her from being astray. What a lonely child! Her father married his love, neglected her, showed love to Swara. Her Daadimaa raised her with love yet restricting her from living her life. I need to hold Sanskaar and Ragini's hands and keep them warm. I'm going to protect them, I won't fail them again. This world may have let them down but I won't.' Sujata's eyes water at the thought of how everyone around them failed to protect them.

Maheswari Mansion.
Decorated with flowers and lights to welcome the newly wedded couple, a bright mansion with exhausted and unhappy people inside it. No one was genuinely happy anymore after all that had happen and been exposed. It's as if their hearts felt empty and tight. The rituals that were required were completed to let Swara inside the house as Lakshya's wife, and now they waited in silence. Lakshya and Swara had been sent to their rooms to get changed while the rest waited to see if Sujata would come or not.

"I don't think they're coming, they won't be this shameless." Ram uttered and walked back and forth as he started at the entrance.

"Let's wait for 5 more minutes, if they don't come then we'll close the doors." Durga Prasad muttered in a low voice. The voice that once used to be loud and clear, was now lifeless. He felt too embarrassed and disrespected with the way Sujata lashed out at him.

"You're letting them in?" Ram was confused as he blinked at Durga Prasad, "so you mean you give permission for them to stay here? In this house?"

"I will give Sujata one last chance, I want to prove that I'm not biased. I make decisions fairly. And now we have Ragini, I don't know why she was silly enough to choose Sujata, but we can't let Sujata take her. Ragini is our responsibility, her family have trusted her with us. We made a promise to Shekhar Ji that we will take care of her. How can we let Ragini suffer because of Sanskaar's mistake? He married her! And there's nothing Ragini did wrong to be kicked out of this house." Durga Prasad explained and sighed, hanging his head down again. Before leaving the Gadodia house, Shekhar had taken a promise from the family to take care of Ragini and help her from Sujata's manipulation so that she divorces Sanskaar.

"Then what about Sanskaar?" Ram asked, "is he staying too?"

"I'll let you decide that, you're his father. I don't want to hear that I'm speaking as a third person."

"Bhaisa." Ram sighed and approached Durga Prasad. "Please don't take Sujata's words to your heart. She was just gone crazy for a second. You know how mothers are, she just felt the need to protect her child so she lashed out. Not even sparing me." Ram explained and flapped his eyes at his brother sadly. Seeing Durga Prasad upset and embarrassed was hurting Ram.

"Wait here." They hear Sujata's voice, Ram instantly walks towards the entrance followed by Annapurna.

"What took you so long, where did you go?" Ram questioned as he stood besides her, staring at Sanskaar and Ragini who were stood at the door. Sujata ignored Ram's questions and turned around, finding Annapurna standing with a pooja platter in her hand. "Do Ragini's ghar pravesh."

Sujata took the pooja platter and faced them again, doing the ritual. She glanced down seeing everything set up beforehand, everything that was needed for the ritual to complete was there. Alongside Swara's handprints on the wall and footprints on the paper.

Sujata encouraged Sanskaar and Ragini to complete the ritual and as they entered, both of them were hesitant to continue walking in.
Ram grit his teeth angrily as he stared at Sujata for ignoring his presence.

"They can come in, we won't kick you or them out. Everyone is tired now, let's all talk tomorrow morning!" Ram declared and walked away, heading upstairs towards his room.

Annapurna turned around and walked towards Durga Prasad, Sujata signed Ragini and Sanskaar to follow her as they walked up the stairs, awkwardly.

"So, should I start packing tomorrow? We can rest here tonight." Sujata suggested after asking a question, opening Sanskaar's room door and entering first to turn the lights on.

"Yes, we could do that. I don't mind." Sanskaar honestly uttered and entered after the lights turned on. "I'll start looking for places now." He added and walked towards the wardrobe.

Ragini slowly entered and after she did, Sujata closed the room door and locked it. "Priviy." She mumbled with a faint smile and Sanskaar corrected her "it's privacy mom."

"Yes that's what I meant." She argued back and held Ragini's hand, taking her to the bed. She made her sit down and sat down with her, blinking at her with warm eyes and greeting her with a warm smile.

"Ragini, make yourself comfortable and get some sleep." Ragini's heart was starting to warm up, the affection and kindness she was getting from Sujata was something she had not expected, especially after she had exposed herself in front of her. The reaction Ragini had been waiting to see was of her being despised by Sujata but not a single glimpse of that was felt or seen from Sujata. Ragini lowered her gazes and made a fist, distracting herself before she subconsciously attaches herself to Sujata too much. Too much to this point that she starts liking and relying on her.

"I'm going to get changed." Sanskaar heads to the bathroom after getting a pair of clothes from the wardrobe and Sujata stands up with a gasp. "Oh no, I forgot about that. I need to find you something comfortable to get changed into."

Ragini shook her head, "I'll be fine in these clothes."

"You're going to feel so uncomfortable, wait let me. . ." Before Sujata could continue, she was interrupted by a knock and faced the door. A sigh left her mouth and she walked towards the door, unlocking it and opening it.

Swara was stood in front of the door with a pair of clothes in her hand, "I heard Ragini was here, I came to see her." Ragini's gaze moved towards the door after she heard Swara's voice, her heart palpitated. Right now, she felt like avoiding everyone, and meeting Swara was definitely something she did not want right now.

"She's tired, it's been a long day so she's going to rest now. You can talk to her tomorrow." Sujata replied and took the clothes from her hand, "I'll give these to her."

"But Aunty I want to. . ."

"Bye." Sujata closed the door on Swara's face, surprising her. "Ragini." Swara called and knocked on the door, "Ragini, I want to talk to you."

Sujata handed Ragini the clothes, "just ignore her. You don't have to meet her now if you don't want to. But if you do, I won't stop you."

Ragini shook her head instantly, refusing to meet Swara. Her lips quivered and she lowered her head, "I. . . Don't want to." She softly mumbled and distressingly blinked at the floor.

"I'm going to go now, get changed and take rest." She uttered and headed towards the door, opening it, still finding Swara out there. She stepped out and closed the door from behind her.

"It's been a stressful day for her, please let her rest! You have all day tomorrow to talk to her." Sujata exclaimed and Swara sighed, glancing at the closed door. It was indeed a tiring and stressful day for Ragini, and disturbing her now instead of letting her rest could stress her more, so Swara decided to listen to Sujata and nodded her head, walking away.

Ragini threw the clothes on the bed and tears welled up in her eyes. "I don't like it here. Why does it feel so suffocating?" She questioned herself and anxiously stood up, finding the window. She panicked and pushed the window open, letting the fresh breeze of air enter the room. Her head began to pound and she touched it in agony, "ah."

It felt uncomfortable and awful, having a blocked nose due to crying too much and now a cluster headache, and it sucked to be in pain and be hurting everywhere. Broken heart was not enough that now her body was retaliating against her stress, unable to endure it.
