carnival kisses
She wraps her hand around mine and leads me across the beach, sand rubbing between my toes. Her fingers feel like cotton wrapped around my own.
In the distance a a Ferris Wheel spins, lights shining all throughout the beach. Countless other attractions lay beside it, all filled with giddy tourists.
She turns her head slightly, eyeing the carnival. Looking at me with a glint in her eye, she starts pulling me towards the carnival.
The salty air brushes past, moving a few strands of sunkissed hair in its' wake.
As we're walking, the ocean's waves meet us in our journey, almost as if it's waving goodbye.
----------
The man sells us two red snow cones, then moves on to the next customer. She takes a bite of the snow cone, red staining her lips. A smile fills her mouth at the taste of the sugary treat. She notices my stare and gives me a kiss with her cherry red lips, and I think I'm the luckiest girl in the world.
----------
She takes it upon herself to win me a prize at one of the many rigged games. She throws ball after ball. Dart after dart, gaining a kiss after every try. One of the many objects she throws lands her a prize, which she immediately presents to me. I embrace her and kiss her cherry lips once more, smiling harder than ever before.
----------
We stroll along the boardwalk, swinging our hands, when she raises our clasped hands to her lips and presses the softest of kisses to my knuckle.
Something catches her eye in a passing store, the windows filled with cheesy merchandise meant for tourists. She drags me into the store and immediately places several hats on top of her sunkissed hair, modeling them for me and moving into ridiculous poses. Her sweet laughter fills the store, happiness radiating off of her.
She grabs my hand, twirling me around until I'm wrapped up in her arms. She rests her chin on my shoulder, placing a kiss on my cheek. I lean into her, loving every moment of her touch.
----------
We end up purchasing a couple hats and sunglasses, placing them on our heads immediately. We walk a few steps outside the store until I notice a photo booth. I pull her inside, dragging the velvet curtain shut.
The camera starts flashing and then we're posing. Kisses are pressed onto lips, smiles are spread onto tan cheeks, and love-struck eyes gaze into the others'.
We collect the photos, giggling at them before stuffing them into our pockets.
A familiar tune dances its' way to us from a nearby store. A mischievous grin etches itself onto her face as she tugs me to an open space. She twirls me around and swings my arms to the beat; a gleeful laugh escapes her lips. We dance for a while longer until the music stops. Breaking away from our reverie, we notice a crowd has appeared around us, giving us claps and whistles of encouragement.
Wide grins stretch themselves onto our faces and we take a bow, a slight rosy blush appearing on our cheeks.
The crowd disperses, and we're left alone to find the sun setting. The ball of light once high in the sky, streaming a yellow glow across the endless sky, now shrinks to a painting of orange, pink, and a lovely shade of violet.
We stare in awe at the beautiful scene before us. I glance at her, only to find her eyes already on me. Gently taking my hand, she whispers, "I know where to find a better view," and soon after we're sitting on top of the ferris wheel.
I stare at the beautiful mesh of colors on the never-ending sky before us. The oranges and reds blend perfectly into the gorgeous shades of violet and blue, high up in the sky with millions of twinkling lights spread across the velvety night. The sun has become a tiny dot, receding into the ocean every minute, shades of orange and red following after it. The bright colors send a shimmering gleam of light onto the ocean below, forming a dazzling sparkle across the soft waves below. Every factor combines to create the most beautiful image I have seen in my entire life.
I feel her lean onto me, putting her arm around my waist. I lean into her, every touch sending a wave of bliss throughout my body.
She buries her head on my shoulder, sending warm puffs of air onto my neck. I look down at her and move a plait of sunkissed hair from her face. She looks up at me, her eyes filled with love.
I tilt my head until our noses are brushing and the only thing that's separating our lips is our own breath, filled with the scent of cherries.
I connect our lips and ease into a gentle kiss. My hands find their way to her hair, untangling the sun-kissed strands.
Her fingers dance their way onto my cheeks, gently stroking them as her lips and mine collide.
I break the kiss and rest my forehead on hers, inhaling the salty, ocean scent on her that has long since replaced her sweet perfume.
We rest like this for a while longer, encased in the others' arms, basking in the pleasantness of the moment.
She moves her face until she's looking into my eyes, her's so bright they almost look like they're glowing.
She places her hands delicately on my face, almost as if she's afraid I'll shatter. She moves her fingers to close my eyes and presses a light kiss onto each of my eyelids.
"I love you," she whispers, so softly the wind almost carries it away.
I open my eyes, and gaze into hers. Her eyes are filled with so much love, that I can do nothing but.
"I love you, too," I whisper back, staring into her glowing eyes.
A small smile grows onto her pink lips as she closes her glowing eyes and rests her forehead on mine again.
