Episode Eight

"I'll tell you what you're going to do," a voice said. Brooks turned around to find Clover standing there. "You guys are going to follow me back to camp."

Brooks smiled, glad to have her help. "Thanks," he said politely.

"I told you not to be dumb," Clover said, moving forward. "Yet here you are. Lost in the woods. Did you find anything?"

Esme quickly explained everything that happened.

"Kiwi? I knew she was weird," Clover said. "And Smoke was always creepy... We should warn everyone when we get back to camp and protect the cabins for the night."

Brooks hadn't thought about that, but it sounded like a good idea. They needed to protect themselves. Smoke and Kiwi would probably come back to hurt them and others. They were clearly using campers as blood bags, stuffing themselves with blood and power. Brooks had learned to live off of little bits of blood, like when he bit someone or when someone cut themselves on accident. He had never killed anyone and he never would.

"We need to make sure no more campers die," Brooks said.

Clover nodded. "We'll protect the camp, and then kill Brooks and Kiwi."

Brooks stopped. "Kill them?"

"It's the only way to make sure everyone is safe."

"I guess that makes sense," Esme said. "But let's protect the camp first. Defense before offense."

Brooks agreed. "Attack is the best form of defense," he said.

"Yeah," Clover said. "So let's get a move on. It's almost lunch time. We can tell everyone what we've learned in the mess hall."

"Okay," Xaria said. Brooks and Esme nodded.

Soon, they got out of the woods and found themselves near the back of the lake. The hiked to the mess hall just as lunch was about to end.

"Wait!" Clover called to the campers that were leaving the hall. "We have something to say!"

"What?" an annoyed camper asked. "You're not even a counselor. I'm leaving!"

"No!" Esme exclaimed. "Wait! This is about the kidnapping!"

This got people's attention. They froze and looked over at the group of four. Brooks led the group onto a moldy table to stand on.

"Clover," Xaria said, prompting her to begin after a moment of awkward silence.

Clover rubbed her hands together and began. "Kiwi, a counselor in Fox Village, and Smoke are behind the kidnapping. We have to protect ourselves!"

"Um... Do you have any evidence?" a counselor asked.

"Yes, in the woods," Clover said. She gestured at Xaria, Esme, and Brooks. "These three risked their lives to find Theo. Following his scent, they found Kiwi and Smoke's treehouse. Inside they were... uh... snuggling over a pile of dead bodies."

"Smoke is married to Marie," a counselor said. "You guys are just making this crap up."

"You have to listen," Brooks pleaded.

"You should be protecting yourself either way," Clover said. "It doesn't matter if we are lying, which we aren't. The kidnappings are real. Everyone here knows it."

"Plus, we have no reason to lie," Xaria said calmly. Soon, the counselors and campers seemed to agree after much chatter amongst themselves.

"We need to protect ourselves!" a counselor declared. "Every village takes care of themselves."

Clover smiled. "Great. Now, hurry. They could come at any moment." Clover then turned to the group of three. "We need to find out how to kill Smoke and Kiwi. Let's go to the craft shack."

The group followed Clover as she walked to the deserted craft shack. Clover had only been there once when she needed to find tape for a project. The area was stocked full with craft supplies.

"How do you kill a vampire?" Clover asked, looking around.

"You stab them with a wooden stake," Brooks said.

"Or chop their head off," Xaria said. "We have to burn the body afterward either way."

"I say we do option number one," Clover said.

"I agree," Esme said.

"Okay, let's look for a wooden stake," Clover said, already scanning the shelves. Soon, Brooks found seven long sticks of wood, but he didn't pick them up.

"They make me sick," Brooks said. "Clover, you'll have to carve them."

"Looks like staying human was a good thing," Clover said with a smirk. She took the sticks and brought them to the carving area. She decided to carve them all. Better have too many then too little.

"Let's find a flamethrower or something like that," Esme said. Brooks and Xaria nodded and looked around. Esme looked in the backroom since she knew a flamethrower would probably not be out in the open.

Clover finished carving the sticks. She wrapped them in cloth so the others could use them.

After they had gathered their materials, they followed the trail back to the tree house. They decided to wait outside until the two vampires came out.

Hours later, they were still waiting. Suddenly, they saw two figures go into the ivy wall.

"Oh gosh," Esme whispered. "We're late. They must have already attacked."

"They didn't drag in a dead body... Plus, the camp was protected," Clover said.

"But they are still alive," Esme said.

"Don't worry," Cover said darkly. "We'll just have to kill them tomorrow."
