Chapter 7
"Take it outside!" Shane suddenly shouts, and someone yanks open the front door, and throughout the boisterous chanting, Alex and I are pushed down the short hallway and shoved right out the door.
The grass decides it's time to hit us both in the face. I can feel the papery blades sticking to my sweaty face. I lay there, pain jolting through my face. The second I hit the ground, everything was silent then, though I soon regained my senses, but not soon enough. Laughter evolves into...
Warnings?
Then I feel it. Swift kick to the stomach. Laughter is erupting harder, and I didn't even think it could get louder than it already was. Pain pulses through my body's catacomb like a tsunami blasting through the land. I feel like my bones are being fractured into a million small pieces. I cough, and realize nothing is coming out. I struggle to breathe.
I somehow manage to look up. Alex's possessed being is aggressively standing over me. His anger is so great, you can almost see it as steam emanating from his body. He must be so fed up with me, as much as I am with him. We did, as a matter of fact, bully each other several times before, throughout the years we were stuck living together. We just took turns on picking on each other. Like brothers.
Extremely hostile brothers.
"Wanna say that again?" He sneers after I try to cough to make some noise. Noise to make him stop. A desperate call for help.
He kicks me again. And again. And again. I can hear people chatting in the background, sounding uncertain. The wind is returning to my lungs and suddenly, I hear Shane scream, "Finish him off!"
The world is blurry. Colors are morphing together, like one of Monet's impression sunrises. My head is pounding like the timpani in a John William's piece, and my ribs feel as though they had been shattered and now lay on the lining of my insides. Pain is all I can feel. All I've ever been capable of feeling. All I am is hopeless.
I brace my stiff body as much as I came, bitterly anticipated another rib-shattering blow. But my expectation is not fulfilled, to my relief.
Alexis pulling me up. Maybe he's not so mad after all?
I'm still struggling to breathe, and Alex looks me right in the eye for a moment. I'm dazed and confused.
"You gonna fight back?" He asks, his voice breathy.
Crack. Alex throws a mighty punch at my face. It forces me to fly backwards. The grass embraces me once again. I hear cheering. Sick people.
I manage to look up again at Alex. He's glaring down at me, and thenturns away back into the house. I'm laying there, gasping for air.
Four figures appear to be moving towards me, even though everyone else is going back inside. I stare at the darkened, starry sky, and I'm wondering if that's the only beautiful thing I'll see tonight.
"Pick him up," A familiar, sneering voice says.
It's as if all of my energy has been drained from my system. I'm too embarrassed and exhausted to do anything anyways. I'll get what's coming to me.
Four hands hoist me up. My vision settles, and I see that it's, no surprise, Shane. He's intimidatingly standing in front of me, his feet spread apart as if he were some ancient god. Talk about entitlement.
The last thing I notice before Shane pummels the crap out of me is James off to the side. I saw Tuck and Fish inside with Shane, but I haven't seen him at all. It seems as if he had just arrived from his house. I catch his gaze, but he then looks away quickly.
I can only sigh.
