Chapter 5

Amelia's P.O.V.

I could feel the adrenaline pumping through my veins as we approached the obstacle ahead of us - the triple bars. They proved a difficult task for Admiral at times, even with his many years of training under his belt. Some days he would straight up refuse to even jump them, which I can tell you from experience was a problem when it came to competitions. Nonetheless, he sailed over the bars without any difficulty and continued the rest of our make shift jumping course in decent time, but I knew it was an area that we had to work on.

Today was Saturday and the only day of the week I actually got any proper training done, that is, when I didn't have work of course. Speaking of which, I told Charlotte that the band got her message a few nights ago and said thank you, plus the fact Freddie was wondering if she was single, to which her reaction was almost collapsing on the floor. I tried telling her it was probably a joke but she didn't care - Freddie Mercury asked, in his own words, if she was single, and that was enough to make her swoon. I didn't blame her, though. If I was her I'd probably react to that question in the same way.

Anyway, I trained with Admiral for a while longer until I decided to call it a day and began walking him to the gate when I saw a familiar face standing at the fence. It was Brian.

'Impressive.' he commented, smiling, 'I can barely even stay on a horse when it's walking, never mind jumping.'

'It just takes practice,' I replied, walking up to him, still on Admiral's back. I noticed he had a tennis racket in his hand, 'Training for the Wimbledon final?'

He chuckled, 'Not quite. The guys and I are playing tennis in the courts over there. Actually the reason I came over was to ask you if you'd like to join us.'

'I dunno,' I hesitated for a moment, 'I don't want to be intrusive.'

'Don't be silly, of course you wouldn't! We'd love to have you there, it'd be fun. Besides, the others have already started squabbling over scores so I have no one to play against.' Brian told me.

I laughed and thought about it for a bit more before giving in, 'Alright, you twisted my arm, I'll play. Just let me take Admiral back to the stable and I'll come back with you to the courts.'

'Great!' he beamed as I dismounted Admiral and lead him back to the stable, Brian following closely.

After having a long discussion with Brian about what he did before he joined Queen, which included studying for a PhD in Astrophysics, I figured it was time to head to the tennis courts before Admiral got too friendly as he'd tried to nibble on Brian's hair several times whilst I untacked and groomed him. He was obviously too impatient to wait for his feed and Brian's hair must have looked quite appetising to him.

'Sorry about Admiral trying to eat your hair.' I chuckled, whilst the two of us walked along the path heading towards the tennis courts.

'No worries, I've got plenty of it. It'd take a while for him to eat it all.' he laughed, 'So, how good are you at tennis then?'

'Oh, pretty good! I won the school tennis tournament in Year 8 so I think I've got a fairly good chance of winning.' I said, half sarcastically.

'Oh, really?' Brian smirked, 'We'll just see about that.'

Roger's P.O.V.

'I saw the ball go outside the line with my own eyes!' I shouted over at Freddie who was stood on the opposite side of the court with his hands on his hips.

'Excuse me. I'll have you know the ball, was in fact, inside the line. That imbecile over there almost took my eye out with it a moment ago, but you never picked up on that!' he retaliated, pointing at John, who stood there with a unimpressed expression on his face.

Freddie thought he was so skilled at tennis that he could take on both John and myself on his own, which he couldn't, although he'd never admit that himself. We'd started off playing by the rules but as the game progressed, that sort of died out and now we were playing by rules of our own which inevitably had resulted in arguments breaking out. Anyway, after further disagreement between the three of us, Brian finally returned but he wasn't alone. Along with him was Amelia, who smiled sweetly at us upon entering the court.

'Alright, fellas?' Brian greeted, 'Sorry I took so long. I got talking to Amelia and figured it'd be fun if she joined in and played a game with us.'

'Hope that's okay with you guys.' Amelia asked timidly.

'Of course, darling!' Freddie exclaimed, walking towards us, 'These are your tennis courts after all, you can do whatever you like. Plus it'll be great fun. C'mon, let's play. But no cheating!'

'I hope that applies to you too, Freddie.' John sassed to which Freddie replied with nothing but sticking out his tongue at him.

The boys and myself organised ourselves on the court and divided into teams while Amelia collected a racket - first were Freddie and Amelia on one side and Brian and I on the other. John wanted to take a break as he kept complaining that his feet were hurting him, which was his own fault to be honest as he thought wearing his platform boots while playing tennis was a good idea. Anyway, whilst we were waiting to begin, Brian walked over to me and said quietly in my ear.

'When the game is over, go and talk to Amelia.'

I looked up at him, my mouth agape, 'So that's why you invited her back here. I knew it!'

'I'm trying to help you out.' he defended, 'The point is this could be your chance to ask her out. Don't waste it.'

Brian then walked away, leaving me to think. He was right, this was my chance and I had to take it. I'd made up mind - I would talk to Amelia after the game. I just hoped her response to my question would be a positive one.

Amelia's P.O.V.

For a solid hour, I played tennis with the band although I wasn't dressed appropriately for the occasion, wearing jodhpurs and riding boots (but then again neither were the guys). It actually got quite competitive at one point but at the end of it all Freddie and I came out on top, beating Brian and Roger by a long run, to which we celebrating with a victory high-five.

'I need to take a breather, guys.' I announced, almost completely out of breath.

'I think we all do.' panted Brian, who was currently lying on the ground with his arms and legs sprawled out everywhere.

I dragged myself to the edge of the court where I plonked myself down on the ground beside the edge of the fence, leaning back against it. The sun beat down on me as I attempted to use my tennis racket as a fan but it didn't help much. I sat there for a minute or so with my eyes closed before I heard someone walk up and sit down on the ground next to me. I opened my eyes to see a familiar blonde haired drummer.

'Hello.' Roger greeted with a sweet smile.

'Hello again.' I replied. 'You alright?'

'Yeah, grand. Bit tired now but I'll be fine after a while. That was a good game of tennis. I must say, you're pretty good at it. Better than I am, anyway.' he complimented.

I smiled at him, 'Thanks. You weren't too bad yourself...even though we beat you.'

'Good thing I went for music and not sports, ' he chuckled, 'Anyway, the reason why I came over was I wanted to ask you something.'

'Oh, yeah? And what that might be?' I looked up at him interested.

Roger bit his lip nervously as he paused for a moment, like he was trying to get his words together, 'Um, well, I was wondering if you'd like to go out for a drink with me. Down at the pub, perhaps?'

I looked at him surprised by his question - it had been a while since someone had asked me out anywhere, 'Yeah, absolutely Roger, I'd love to go out for a drink with you. I'm busy tonight but how does 8 o'clock tomorrow night sound?'

'Sounds like a plan.' he replied, happily. 'We'll walk down. It's not that far to walk there, is it?'

'Nah, it barely takes 10 minutes.'

'Good, good. Well, I guess I'll see you tomorrow night, then. That's if, I don't see you before then, which I probably will.' Roger said getting up off the ground and reaching out his hand to help me up too.

'I suppose I will, Mr. Taylor.' I nodded, taking his hand and pulling myself up. 'I'll expect to see you outside the house at 8 o'clock exactly. Not a minute later.' I joked.

'Oh, don't worry about me being late. For you, I'll certainly be there on time.'

Hello again, readers!

Here's another chapter for you all. I'd already written a good chunk of it already so it didn't take long for me to write the rest. Hope you like it, a vote would be appreciated as always. Now if you'll excuse me I'm going to sleep now as school resumes from study leave tomorrow (officially today) and it's currently 1am, hence why there might be some typos. Oops. I'll fix them tomorrow haha.

Good night/morning/afternoon depending where you are in the world!

- Anna :-) x
