Chapter Two
"So, Giselle tell me, what is a face as pretty as yours doing in a muggle diner in the middle of the night?" Fred asked curiously.
Giselle blushed slightly. "Well, I've had a pretty shitty day if I'm being completely honest."
"But the day has only just started." Fred teased, gesturing towards the clock that lay on the wall adjacent.
1:30 am.
"You know what I mean."
"So yesterday was bad. What's the big deal? It's a new day, you can change things."
"Apart from the fact that I can't," Giselle replied cryptically.
"What is that supposed to mean?" Fred questioned. "What's the big problem?"
"The problem is with my family, I guess."
"I can relate," Fred replied. "But please continue."
"Well, I'm on holiday right now you see. And back home in France, my grandfather's condition is worsening. And I don't exactly think my family knows how to cope with it all. It's causing them all to fight and I'm so done with dealing with it."
"That awful, I'm sorry to hear about it," Fred said. "Hang on, France?"
"Yeah, I've lived there my entire life."
"That's why I didn't recognize you! I guess you go to Beauxbatons then?"
"Yep. I'm due to go back there in a few weeks."
"You should do an exchange to Hogwarts," Fred said.
"Well, when I was younger I wanted to. But after the events of last year, I'm sure I don't anymore."
"Hang on...did you come with Beauxbatons to Hogwarts for the Triwizard Tournament?"
"I did."
"No way." Fred breathed. "I would have remembered a face as pretty as yours, trust me."
"Well, I was there. Was so determined to put my name in and everything but I turned seventeen the next day after the names were called. It was beyond annoying."
"Yeah, same with me." Fred replied. "So, Giselle, what's your family look like? Any siblings?"
"Yep. I have two siblings both younger than me and extremely annoying." Giselle said with a slight chuckle. "What about you? Got a big family?"
"You can say that again. I have six siblings."
"Six?"
"Yep. Mostly boys and one sister."
"Wow. And I thought my family was big."
"You never told me your last name, Giselle."
"Durand."
Fred paled slightly. "Oh, so you are pureblood then."
"As are you Weasley. But, don't worry. I don't hold the same views as most of my relations."
"Well I'm pretty sure my family are considered blood-traitors at this point."
"And why should it matter?" Giselle asked. "I don't hold people to the same views, I guess I get that from my father. My mother is still all about being a lady and respectable marriages and all that but she isn't that extreme."
"Woah."
"What's woah?"
"Oh, nothing." Fred said, turning slightly red in the face.
"Oh, are you sure about that?" Giselle teased, leaning forward slightly in her seat.
"Positive." Fred responded, also leaning forward.
"I have two vanilla milkshakes and two bowls of fries." The waitress, Maya said, startling both of them as the gap grew between them yet again.
"Thank you, Maya." Giselle and Fred said in unison.
"Is that all?" Maya said, placing everything down on the table.
"I think that's all, thank you." Giselle said, eyeing her plate of fries hungrily. She had not realized just how ravenous she was until the food was placed in front of her.
"How long are you here on holiday? Fred asked.
"I don't really know actually." Giselle responded, holding a fry out pointing out at Fred. "I swear with my family fighting like they are, it could be any day."
"That's awful. I'm sorry to hear that."
"Yeah, the only reason I'm actually here is that I can't stand them fighting. I'll be back at school in no time and I barely see my family as it is."
"I wish I could see less of my family." Fred joked. "I go to school and see my family everywhere. We practically took over the school in waves."
"But I'm sure your family doesn't fight like mine."
"Ah, right. Sorry." Fred said. "Hey, where are you staying?"
"Oh, down a few streets from here. I can't remember what's the street is called but it starts with 'G', I believe."
"Ah, I'm only a few streets away too!" Fred said as a clock chimed in the corner.
2:30 am
"I'm so sorry, Giselle. But I must get going." Fred said suddenly. "Will you be here tomorrow?"
"Most likely."
"Thank you for paying, by the way."
"Well, thanks for the company."
"Bye."
"Bye."
