Chapter One
Giselle had settled herself in the corner seat of the muggle diner, her head pounding with suppressed anger while her body slightly shook with the adrenaline of having run away from home so successfully, even if it was only for one night.
Her fingers lightly brushed across the sticky menu in front of her, reading the names of muggle foods that seemed so familiar but not at the same time.
At the sound of a bell tinkling as another person entered through the door. However, Giselle paid no attention until she sensed movement in her peripheral vision.
"Do you mind if I sit here?" A light almost teasing tone said from above her. "Everywhere else is full."
Giselle slowly looked up as one of her eyebrows slowly rose. "Well last time I checked I was the only one in here other than the waiters and waitresses. And now you."
"Wow." The person laughed. "Now I am curious. What are you doing here with an attitude like that?"
"Why don't you just sit then," Giselle responded.
"Why, thank you."
"I'm Giselle." She said, putting out her hand a little reluctantly.
"Well, it's lovely to meet you, Giselle." He said as he flashed her a perfect smile. "I'm Fred."
"It's lovely to meet you as well, Fred." Giselle was about to ask about why Fred was in the diner when she was interrupted.
"Are you guys ready to order?" A waitress had slowly made her way over, her name tag reading 'Maya'.
"I am," Giselle replied. "But I'm not sure about Fred."
Fred flashed the waitress yet another perfect smile. "Could we please have a few more moments?"
"Oh, of course." The waitress, Maya responded before scuttling away.
Fred turned back to Giselle. "I haven't gone to many diners. What are you going to get?"
Giselle looked a little taken aback by the question as she wasn't entirely sure herself about the muggle food items on the board.
"Um..." Giselle said trailing off, her eyes flickering down to the menu. "A milkshake and some fries."
"Well, I guess I'll have the same."
Silence passed between them for a few seconds before Fred finally blurted out. "What on earth is a milkshake?"
Giselle let out a nervous chuckle. "I don't have much of an idea either. I guess it starts as milk and then you shake it." Giselle replied with a small smile.
Fred let out a laugh at her attempt of a joke. "And what on earth is vanilla?"
"A flavoring," Giselle answered honestly. "I had it once on ice cream."
"Haha, yeah," Fred said awkwardly as they both chuckled nervously.
They were both pretty sure they knew what the other one was and that they were both from the world. But neither was brave enough to ask about it.
So they sat in awkward silence for a few moments before the waitress, Maya finally returned.
"Ready to order?"
"Yes. I think so." Giselle responded. "Could I please have a vanilla milkshake and some fries."
Maya waited a few moments writing the order down before she turned to Fred. "And you?"
"Same as Giselle please."
"Ok. Do you guys want a split bill or pay all in one go?"
Fred looked over at Giselle. "It's alright I'll pay."
However, as Fred looked through his pockets, he only found the normal wizarding money and shook his head.
"I'm so sorry. I actually don't have any."
Giselle pulled out her purse that had both wizarding and muggle money in it. It took her a few moments before she finally found enough Muggle money to pay. She pulled the money out but watched in dismay as a sickle rolled its way over towards Fred.
"Ah, thank you." The waitress said. "Your order will be here in a few moments."
"Thank you," Giselle responded before whipping her head back around to face Fred at record speed. Her heart dropping slightly while her head whirled with excuses.
It was some foreign money that she was holding onto for a friend.
Money that she had been using to play with her younger siblings?
"You know you can breathe again." Fred teased.
"What?" Giselle questioned.
"I know what this is and I already had my suspicions that you were."
"What?" Giselle responded.
"A witch."
"I am," Giselle said, pulling her hands over her face in embarrassment. "And I guess you are a wizard as well."
"That I am. Honestly, Giselle, you should have just asked in the first place."
"What? Hey! You could have asked as well!"
