"This is great! Wow. What did you say?" Lana asks.

"Nothing yet, I don't know what to say."

"Hmm, let me think. Can I see it?" Kenna asks, since she's the one who's not driving.

I nod, unlocking my phone and handing it to her.

Would you like to hang out later tonight? We could watch Harry Potter!

"Oh, wow. This is interesting. Why did you not answer at first?"

I explain how my phone must've turned off while I was talking to her, right after the first message came in, so it looked like I ignored it.

"I see. This is not a drill guys, what should we say?"

"We? This is my relationship honey, I'm an independent woman." I joke. She starts typing and I reach my hand to try to grab my phone from her. "What are you doing? Stop!" I say, and successfully grab it before she clicks send. I look at what she typed.

"You we're going to send that to him?" I ask, and she nods. "How could you? You can't pretend you know my feelings!" I scold, "Plus, I'm busy tonight. I have a job, you know."

"Well, you did admit you liked him, so hanging out with him shouldn't be that painful." she laughs.

"Just because I admitted it doesn't mean it's true." I argue. "But it is."

I erase the message, and start my own.

sorry, just saw these now. and i'm actually working tonight unfortunately, so I can't 😌
 
 
"And send." I click the blue 'send' button, then wipe my hands together as if to say 'that was easy'. I hope I don't disappoint him.

"Good job girl." Lana says as we arrive at the grocery store.

Buzz. "He replied!" I say, opening my phone.

"What did he say???" Lana asks excitedly.

"Okay, phew. I thought he would be upset but he's not." I pretend to wipe the non-existent sweat off my forehead.

"That's great!" Kenna says.

Work tonight is going to be long.

I have a 5 hour shift, and it's only been an hour yet it feels like 8.

I take some orders, and put them in the kitchen where I'm supposed to.

"It's so slow tonight, I can't believe it." Jess says, slouching.

"I know, this is going to be such a long night." I complain.

"Oh by the way, this guy came in and asked me to talk to you, he said his name is Shawn?" she says. "Do you know him?"

I smile, with a small blush creeping onto my cheeks. "Yeah, he's just the guy that's renting the beach house next to Lana's."

"Oh. Well then." she winks. "You should really go talk to him."

"Yeah, I'll be right back." I smile, going out to the main room until I spot him. I walk over to him, and stop once I get to him. "Hey." I smile, a bit confused as to why he'd come to my work.

"Hey." he says with an adorable smile.

"What are you doing here?" I laugh, surprised.

"Well, this morning you told me that you were working tonight, so I figured I'd stop by and say hi. I also didn't have a chance to see you or talk to you today, so I wanted to come."

"That's so sweet of you!" I smile. "I would-"

"Gabriella, please get back to work." my boss says when he walks by.

"Yes sir, sorry." I sigh. "I'll be home just after 9, you don't have to wait here for me if you don't want to." I say to Shawn.

"No it's okay, I don't have anywhere else to be." he smiles. "Now go before you lose your job because of me." he laughs.

I leave him and go back to work, but he still stays on my mind. I didn't expect him to come here in the slightest, he's so sweet.

I continue working, yet it seems to be going by even slower than before. It's because I'm anxious to talk to him.

"Hi Gabriella, you may take your dinner break now." My supervisor taps me on the shoulder.

"Great thank you!" I smile. I order my food, then go to find Shawn right where I left him, sitting on his phone. "Boo!" I yell, creeping up behind him.

"Hey you." he smiles.

"Do you want to sit down with me while I eat?" I ask.

"Sure."

"I'm surprised you waited actually, I thought you would've gone home by now." I laugh.

"No, I wouldn't. You're worth waiting for." He smiles.

"Awe, you Canadians are way too nice."

"That's what we do best." he grins.

"So, what have you been up to today?" I ask, taking a big scoop of my pasta.

"Not much, I went to the gym for awhile, then did some errands." he says.

"You work out?" I ask, and he nods. I have to admit, but only to myself, I'm impressed.

"Yeah, not much since we got here but I'm getting back into it." he explains. "So what did you do all day?"

"Not much for me either, we went to the grocery store this morning, then I spent the afternoon just chilling on the beach." I say.

"Ahh, what happened to your plans to go to the dance studio?" he asks.

"Oh, yeah. I was gonna go, but then I got pretty lazy, so... I didn't." I confess, a small blush creeping onto my cheeks.

"Don't worry, I skip out on the gym a lot because I'm lazy, it's just human nature." He laughs, making me feel better about it.

"Yeah, I guess it was just one of those days." I sigh, finishing up my plate of food. "Well, as much as I would love to keep this conversation going, my break is almost finished so I should go back. Thanks for stopping by!" I say, then start to walk back to the kitchen with my plate.

"Wait, Gabi." Shawn calls after me, and I turn back towards him.

"Yeah?" I smile.

"I was wondering if you'd, uh, like to go out to see a movie or something with me tomorrow night?" he asks shyly, scratching the back of his neck.

"Are you asking me out?" I ask, astonished.

"Yeah, I am." I see his cheeks turn a light pink colour.

"Well then of course, I'd love to." I smile, before walking towards the kitchen again, shaking my head and smiling.

"What's up with you?" Jess asks with a smirk.

"What?" I ask, flustered.

"One minute you're dreading your shift, the next you're smiling like there's no tomorrow, what's going on?" she asks. Is it that noticeable?

"Oh, nothing." I smile sheepishly.

"Oh there's something." she nudges me. "Is it something to do with that guy, Shawn?"

"Fine. Yes, he just asked me out." I blush. "But it's no big deal." I shrug it off.

"Yes it is! Have you even noticed how hot he is? And he came here just to keep you company while you're at work!" she gushes. "That'd be a pretty big deal to me." she smiles as she takes out an order, and I do the same.

When we both get back, I start talking again. "Okay fine. It is a big deal. It's a big deal because I have this huge crush on him and I have since I first saw him come here that one night, and I don't want to mess this up."

"Look at you, all flustered." she smiles. "You're cute, it'll all turn out fine, I promise." Jess is a bit older than me, and to be honest I love the way she treats me like her younger sister. Especially since I don't have a big sister, and I've always wanted one.

"How can you be so sure?"

"Because I'm always right."

"HE ASKED YOU OUT?" Kenna squeals.

"Yes, and it's a big deal."

"Hell yeah it is!" Lana agrees.

"Come on, we need to find you an outfit for tonight then." Kenna says, pulling me towards the closet I've put my things in and raising through it. "Hmm, too dressy." she says, going past a fancy dress. "Too casual." she says, going past a pretty plain t-shirt. "Just right."she grins. "Here try this on." she says, throwing me a pink and white striped blouse.

I put it on with some jeans, and they both swoon.

"Here, put on these flats too."

"Wow guys, can I mention that he hasn't even texted me since? No details yet, which still means he could cancel on me." I point out. Bzzz. My phone buzzes, and when we see that it's him, everyone laughs.

"Well he has texted you now!" Lana laughs.

I wait a few minutes before replying, because it does seem kinda desperate if I answer right away.

"Yes, I do. I get scared very easily. But as long as he's beside me nothing can hurt me right?" I giggle.


"That's my girl." Lana winks.


"I learned from the best." I wink back.
