3- beach
Shawn.
It's extremely hot this afternoon, even hotter than yesterday.
So, we decide that we're going to go in the ocean today to cool ourselves off.
"Last one to the water is a rotten egg!" I yell, taking off towards the ocean.
"That game is for 5 year olds, are we really gonna play that?" Brian whines.
"Yup." Ian says as he runs.
"Yes, and I already have a lead!" I laugh, still running. "Aaaaaaaaaannnnnnnndddd I win," I say, beating everyone else to the water. "Bow down to your king."
And of course, Ian comes next, then Brian loses. "Brian's the rotten egg!" Ian yells as Brian reaches us.
"Oh, come on, you guys are such babies." Brian rolls his eyes.
"Ian, do you smell that? Something smells disgusting." I joke.
"Oh, yeah. It's really bad, what is that? Smells like rotten eggs." Ian plays along.
"I really hate you guys you know." Brian complains.
"What was that? I'm too distracted by this distracting smell." I say, laughing.
"Okay fine!" Brian yells. "I'm the rotten egg." he crosses his arms over his chest.
We all burst out laughing.
"Let's go wave jumping!" Ian suggests.
We agree, then go into the water and swim out a bit until we can barely touch. The water is cold, but it feels extremely nice compared to the hot sun.
It keeps us entertained for hours, until we get bored and decide to go inside to eat a snack. I grab a bag of chips and put them in a bowl, while Brian grabs some cold Pepsi from the fridge.
We take it all outside, sitting on the lawn chairs under the sun umbrella.
"You know, I could get used to this," I say, out of the blue. "Living on the beach, no snow, not a care in the world, I mean, I love the snow but I also really don't."
"But what about your life, Shawn?" Brian mentions. "You can't make a living out of sitting on the beach, now can you?"
"Brian, why do you always have to be the mood-ruiner?" I ask.
"I'm just trying to be realistic, Shawn. You can't just sit around your whole life thinking money grows on trees!"
"Woah, woah, woah, Brian what's gotten into you?" Ian asks, sounding just as confused as I am with our best friend's grouchy behaviour.
"I'm just simply stating that all of you should take a step back into reality, because what you're talking about is not realistic in the slightest." he says rudely.
"Chill, Brian. We're jut trying to have a little fun." I say defensively.
"Well thinking about the future is not something I want to do right now. And it most definitely is not fun." He storms off back into the house, leaving the two of us speechless.
"What's wrong with him?" I ask Ian.
"I don't know, but it's best we don't worry about it. Let's just let him breathe for a bit, it's probably just the heat or something."
"You're right," I smile.
A bit later, Brian comes back out.
"Look guys, I'm really sorry for the way I acted before, I guess I'm just... worried about the future. I have no idea what I want to do with my life and it scares me." Brian confesses.
"It's okay Brian, it just startled us a little. You've never acted like that before." Ian says.
"We're here for you, Brian. You can talk to us about anything." I say, hugging him and patting him on the back.
"Thanks, guys. You're the best friends a guy like me could ask for." He jokes.
"Awe, I love you guys," I pull them both in for a group hug.
"I think this deserves a celebratory game of mini golf." Ian suggests.
"It's 7pm, they'll be closed by now," I laugh.
"Well then we go tomorrow!" He says peppily.
"Sounds like a plan to me." Brian agrees.
"Well, I don't know about you guys but I'm going to go get out of this wet bathing suit and into some warm clothes to watch the sunset." I say.
They both nod, and I go put on some sweats and head back outside to sit on a chair in the sand. The sun is already setting, so I decide to use this opportunity to take some selfies. I post one on snapchat, and then also on instagram, both with the caption, "Could get used to this."
"Hey, nice selfie, Shawn." Ian teases as both of them walk out.
"Thanks." I blush slightly.
"Shawn's blushing!" Brian coos, making me put my hands on my cheeks to hide the redness.
"Shut up!" I yell with a laugh.
"You know we just like to tease you." Ian smirks.
"I know, but I'm still going to get you back." I say.
"Of course you will, that's just what we do." Brian laughs.
"Wow, look at that sun," I smile, admiring the sun. "I could get used to this too." I look back at Brian, but this time he doesn't say anything.
⌘
"Yes, Mom. We've been eating healthy." I roll my eyes, laughing. She worries way too much about me. I should've known she'd get like this.
"Okay good. You boys need to be drinking a ton of water, that California sun will do bad things if you get dehydrated." she warns.
"I know, Mom. We will, don't worry." I smile.
"But I am worried. My son is across the continent with two friends. What else am I supposed to do?" She laughs.
"I know. I miss you tons. And Aaliyah and Dad."
"I miss you too," she says, "Well, I'll let you get going, I'm sure you have big plans for today."
"Only mini golfing," I smile, "then hanging out on the beach. Bye, Mom. I love you."
"Bye, Shawn. I love you too." She says, then hangs up.
"Who's ready to go mini golfing?" I yell to Brian and Ian.
"We've been ready for a long time, we were just waiting for you while you had your daily mommy time." Ian jokes.
I ignore his comment and start to walk out the door, and they follow. We finally have a rental car, and I drive mostly because I don't trust either of them behind the wheel.
We get in the car and make our way to the mini golf place, it's a pretty short drive.
We play for a long time, around 5 hours to be exact. There were only a few groups there, so they let us do all 3 courses that they have.
"I'm exhausted and hot, who else wants to go back and go for a swim?" Ian suggests, and we both nod in agreement.
When we get back, we all immediately go to our rooms to change and put on tanning lotion.
I grab my sunglasses, and I'm the last one to go outside out of the three of us. It seems as if we're not the only ones out there, though. I catch Ian and Brian staring at a group of girls.
"What are you boys staring at?" I tease.
"Do you see them? They're like goddesses." Ian whispers so only I can hear.
"Yeah, whatever you say. I told you already I'm not here for the girls. They're not even that good-looking." Okay I'll be honest now, yes they are.
"Whatever you say, Shawn. More for us then!" Brian says making me roll my eyes.
There's three of them, and they are all hot. I won't admit it to the boys, though. I want to keep playing this game. I don't need a girlfriend anyways, like I said.
One of them, the blonde haired one, looks vaguely familiar. I can't pinpoint where I've seen her before though. This is going to bother me.
"I can see you with the blonde one." Ian says, breaking me out of my thoughts.
"Stop." I warn.
"Let's go play some volleyball." I laugh, changing the subject. But also to get them to put their attention off of the girls and stop staring. If they get caught they'll make big fools of themselves.
"Okay sure, Mr. I-don't-want-a-girlfriend."
I roll my eyes at Brian's sarcastic comment, and grab the ball, heading over to the net.
"Okay, let's play a game. We'll play, and the loser has to go talk to those girls. Deal?" Ian suggests.
"What? No I'm not going to play that." I say.
"That's cause you're afraid that you're going to lose!" Brian says.
"Well, I'm not playing." I say stubbornly.
"Please?" Ian begs and they both give me puppy dog eyes.
"Okay fine." I give in. First Ian and I play, and I win. Then I play Brian, and I lose. Of course.
"Now the two losers play each other!" Brian says. Great. I have to win this.
"It's on." I say to Ian, trying to look intimidating. He doesn't buy it, though.
We play a good game, but I lose by one point.
"Damn it." I curse.
"Don't worry, Shawn. You'll thank us for this." Brian pats me on the back.
"Hey, you should ask the blonde one out." Ian suggests and I roll my eyes.
"In your dreams."
I take a deep breath, then start to walk over to the girls. Brian and Ian follow me.
I stop deep in my tracks when I realize why I recognized the girl.
It's her. That girl from the restauraunt, you know? The girl that practically made me feel different about this whole trip?
Yeah, that's her. And her and her two friends are living in the beach house right next door.
