Shawn.

I wake up to someone shaking my shoulder. More like two people. "Shawn, bud wake up!" Ian shouts.

"Ugh," I groan and roll onto my back.

"We're going to miss our plane if you don't get up right now!" Brian says.

That's right. The plane. We're leaving for Malibu today.

"Okay, I'm up, I'm up!" I sit up, putting my hands up in surrender.

They both cheer, making me roll my eyes. "Weirdos"

They leave the room to go downstairs so I can shower and get changed.

I go into the bathroom down the hall from my room and start the water. Once I take off my clothes, I get in, then let the hot water run over me. I wash my hair, then my body and shut off the water, getting out and wrapping a towel around my waist.

I go to my room and get dressed into some jean shorts and a baseball tee. I put my black Ray Bans on top of my head, and shove my phone in my pocket. Then I grab my bags and head downstairs.

"Good morning, Shawn," my mom smiles as she makes what looks like pancakes. Her pancakes are my favourite.

"Good morning, mom," I smile back and give her a hug. Brian and Ian's moms are here as well.

"How'd you sleep?"

"Apparently he slept very well considering it took us 10 mins just to wake him up," Brian laughs.

"Hey, don't make fun of me, I like my beauty sleep," I pout, causing everyone to laugh.

"Pancakes are up!" My mom says as she holds out the plate. I take them over to the table, which is already all set, and Aaliyah is already sitting at her spot. I put them in the middle as everyone sits down and we all dig in. My dad just came down, and he sits as well.

"Good morning, are you boys all ready for the big trip?" he asks.

"As ready as I'll ever be," I say as I take the first bite of my pancake, which tastes amazing.

It's only the three of us going up, we felt like we needed a break before we go off to college.

Once we finish our meal, we pack up the car, my dad has to work so my mom, Aaliyah, and Ian and Brian's moms are coming to see us off at the airport. Meaning that us three will be squished in the back for the whole ride.

It's 9:15 am, and our flight is only at 12, but we need to be there early so we can make sure we don't miss the plane.

We go through security and customs once we get there, then we say goodbye to our parents and I say bye to Aaliyah.

We get through, and wait for a long time in front of our gate.

"I'm so excited to see all of the hot girls, I hear there's so many down there," Brian says. I can practically see him drooling just imagining it. Ian agrees with him. I just roll my eyes.

"Aren't you excited for that too, Shawn?" Ian asks.

"No, to be honest I don't want a girlfriend at this point, I want to keep things simple. Girls are complicated, I learned that with my last relationship," I sigh, thinking back.

"Then why are you even coming on this trip?" Brian asks, jokingly.

"I just want to have a fun summer with my two best friends! I'm not about the girls right now," I laugh at them.

"Okay whatever, Shawn. You'll find a girl. I know you will," Ian says, sending me a wink.

"Whatever, you guys are dorks," I roll my eyes but they just keep winking at me.

Then our flight gets called, which is their cue to stop and grab their things.

I show the lady my plane ticket and my passport, then board the plane. We find our seats and get all comfortable. I put in my earbuds and play music from my phone, since I have a long plane ride ahead of me.

The first song that comes on is Give Me Love, by Ed Sheeran. I've always idolized Ed, wanted to be like him. This song is what actually inspired me to start playing the guitar.

My guitar is practically my therapist, whenever I'm in a bad mood or just need a break from everything, I go to it. Music is my remedy.

The reason I said that I'm not about the girls right now is because I had a bad relationship. My last girlfriend was only worried about herself, and she was very needy. But every time I'd try to do something for her, she'd lecture me and yell at me about how I was going it completely wrong. Yeah. Drama. But I eventually wracked up the nerve to tell her we were over and break up with her. I haven't had another girlfriend since.

I don't need a girl in my life right now. I just want to have a relaxing vacation and try to figure out what I'm going to do for the rest of my life.

Eventually the plane lands, and we get out and find our luggage. I walk out of the airport with my guitar on my back, my bag in my hand, and my suitcase trailing behind me. I take my sunglasses from the top of my head and put them over my eyes.

When we walk out of the front doors, I know I've come to the right place. It's hot, much hotter than back home in Canada, but it's really nice.

We take a cab to the beach house we've rented, which is cozy. It's not too big, not too small, but just the right size for the three of us to spend our summer.

And it's also on the beautiful El Matador beach, so, I mean, you can't go wrong with that.

"Hey, let's go down to the beach when we're all settled? I'm feeling the beach vibe right now," Ian suggests.

"Yeah, sure," I agree. It's 2pm here, 3 hours behind from back home in Toronto. I'm feeling pretty jet-lagged.

I called dibs on the biggest room, it has a queen sized bed and a walk in closet. There is all black furniture, with light blue walls. There is a desk, a dresser, and a night stand. I organize all of my clothes into the drawers and closet.

Then, once I'm done, I put on my swim shorts and my sunglasses and head out. I lather on some tanning lotion before going down to the beach.

Ian and Brian are already there, playing volleyball with the net that's already set up. Instead of playing with them, I grab one of those long beach chairs and lay under the hot sun.

"Hey Shawn, you gonna come play with us?" Ian yells over to me.

"No thanks, the jet lag has me exhausted," I tell them.

"Come on, you can sleep later," Brian whines, giving me a pout.

"Okay, fine. But only for a little bit." I give in. I go over to where they are. "How are we supposed to play with 3 people?"

"We make our team rigged," Brian explains. "Shawn, come be on my team," he laughs.

"Hey!" Ian yells. "No fair!"

"It's so fair, you played in a league for 3 years," I put my hands on my hips.

"Okay, I guess," he gives up. "Fine."

I laugh. I serve the ball to his side, and he misses, it hits the ground.

"See, not fair!" Ian yells, causing both of us to laugh.

We keep playing for awhile, until I start to feel a bit drowsy. "Okay, I've had enough. I'm going to sleep now."

"Come on, Shawn, don't be a puss!" Ian pouts.

"Yeah, Shawn! Keep playing!" Brian agrees, pouting as well.

"Nope. You guys aren't stopping me from sleeping again." I laugh, going back over to the beach chair I had set up before. I drift off pretty fast.

I sleep for awhile, until I am overcome with a rush of something cold. I open my eyes and see the boys laughing. It was cold water.

"Dude, what was that for?" I say angrily.

"You've been asleep for over 3 hours, we're going to go out for a celebratory dinner, you up for that?" Ian asks.

"Yeah, I guess, I'm always up for food," I yawn and sit up, taking a big stretch. "Now I need to go dry off thanks to you losers," I shove them lightly.

"It's all in love," Brian jokes.

I just roll my eyes, going back to the house and getting a towel to dry myself off before getting changed into something kinda nice for dinner.

I decide to wear a plaid shirt and some beige shorts, along with some sandals. Then we head out, after the other two are ready.

We find a restaurant to go to, and we walk there since it's only about 10 minutes. We're eventually going to get a car to rent but for now we'll just do what we can to get around, we can take an uber when we have to.

This restaurant is fancy, but casual. We step in and it's pretty full, but there's also a few tables empty.

The lady at the front greets us. "Hi, how many?"

"Three, please," I answer.

"Okay, follow me," she says and we follow her to a small table.

She hands us the menus. "Your waitress will be right over to help you,"

"Okay, thank you," I smile.

A few minutes later a young girl that looks to be about our age comes over. "Hello, I'm Gabriella, and I'll be your waitress today. Can I get you started with some drinks?"

Okay, so California does have some pretty nice-looking girls.

"Uh, I'll have a root beer please," I say with a smile.

She just nods. The other boys give her their drink orders as well.

"Okay, I'll bring those right up!" she sends a smile and walks back towards the kitchen.

This 'no girls' thing might actually end up being a lot harder than I thought.
