Medusa's Mirror - Written by Bandit26139

A poem by Bandit26139

~*~

Shattered glass on the ground,
Remnants of a broken mirror,
Of an image that can't be found.
A sibilant hiss,
And one desperate plea,
No one can save him,
As her gaze completes the deed.

She can't bear to look at herself,
To see the monster that she's become;
She's now an object of horror,
Not just someone.
A gorgon, a she-devil,
A temptress of the sea,
That's what they call her,
As they all flee.

Why can't they see,
That she wants to be loved?
It wasn't her fault,
But rather the Gods' above.
They stripped her of her beauty,
Took away her grace,
Now no one can bear,
To even look at her face.

They always turn to stone,
A frail object of greed,
With one push they are broken,
Reminders of her misdeed.
The mirrors they bring,
Only makes it worse.
She can't see her reflection,
Or break free of her curse.

Mirror, mirror,
She whispers with tears in her eyes,
Am I destined to be alone,
Until the day I die?
Her words resonate in the cavern,
And reflect all of her hurt,
But no one can hear her,
As dark stains appear in the dirt.

She clenches her hands,
Feeling her palms begin to bleed;
Her previous warmth disappears,
As darkness plants its fallow seed.
Her emotions fade,
As a void appears in her heart;
Bitterness and anger consumes her,
As hope departs.

Shadows close in,
As the final mirror hits the ground.
The shattering of glass,
Echoes as the only sound.
Her broken soul,
Can't be replaced,
As she remains in that cavern,
Waiting to succumb to her fate.
