Chapter 13: The Date

Saturday was now here and I was both nervous and excited at the same time! I can't believe this was actually happening, I must sound like a idiotic preppy girl right now, calm down I told myself mentally.

Though I was undoubtably excited about tonight I still prepared myself for the worst scenario imaginable. I tried not to think about my past problems an tried to focus on the present.

Usually during the week all the campers have daily classes or activities to do but during the weekends the counselors let us be free, sort of. As long as they knew were we were going and it wasn't anything illegal or harmful then we were clear to leave!

Henry said he was going to pick me up by my cabin at around 6 and it was 4 right now! I hurried up to take a shower and soon towel dry my hair and put on some sweats and a t-shirt just until I was back at my cabin(since the showers were somewhere else).

Natalie stood at the door of our cabin with a look of shock on her face.

"Please tell me you are not going on your date looking like that!" She said.

"Of course not!"

"Well that's comforting now,because I already picked out an outfit for you to wear on your bed! Now hurry we don't have much time I still have to do your hair and make up!" He squealed.

The outfit she picked out for me was a light violet colored sundress with some ballet styled flats to match.

After putting my sundress on she spent the rest of the time curling my hair and trying to apply makeup.

When she finished she then grabbed me in front of a mirror for me to see.

And honestly she did a really nice job,better than I would have that's for sure.

My curled dark brown hair almost looked natural as it cascaded down my back and shoulders like a waterfall, and my make up did not make me look like a raccoon or hooker either, but it was just enough to make a difference.

After looking at myself I soon realized that six o'clock was fast approaching with only 5 minutes left for me to spare.

I quickly grabbed my black jacket and purse to go out the door, with Henry waiting for me on the steps of my cabin.

He was wearing a plaid blue button up shirt with dark jeans, his hair was slightly disheveled but not to where it looked out if place.(if that makes sense)

He stood there looking nervous a he fidgeted from foot to foot, as he stared at me with his mouth slightly agape but soon closed it after seeing me approach him.

"Well you sure do clean up nicely." I half joked trying to clear the silence.

"Thanks you don't look half bad yourself." He joked back. That was the Henry I knew.

"Ready to go?" He asked me.

"Yeah, where are we going?" I replied.

He just chuckled as we both walked away from my cabin.

"Now it wouldn't be a surprise if I told you now would it?" He said simply.

I didn't bother trying to argue with him because he still wouldn't tell me and I would end up finding out sooner or later right?

We had to take the local metro bus to go anywhere off the campgrounds, because obviously we could both drive but since everyone here came in a bus we didn't exactly have our own cars at our disposal.

The metro bus stop was relatively close to both campsites and was hardly crowded since in was practically in the middle of nowhere.

We didn't have to wait long for a bus to come and pick us up and what was a bonus was that all the campers staying at both adjacent camps had a free fare curtesy of our parents of course! They obviously wouldn't just give away free rides to a bunch of teenagers!

When we boarded the bus we spent most of our time talking about our lives before the camp. It turned out that Henry lived with his dad and two younger brothers who were 12 and 8.

As I told him that it was just me and my mom back home. Though I could tell he knew there was more that I wasn't telling him but he didn't press the issue.

The metro finally dropped us off at an Italian restaurant named 'Tony's' where we were seated and had our orders taken.

We both continued to talk about the most random things as we laughed almost during the whole meal,I was afraid we were gonna choke on our food a couple of times!

And soon we were both finished eating and then headed toward the movie theatre across the street.

"I will pay for the tickets since you payed for the dinner," I offered.

"No, I insist I am the one taking you out on a date so I will pay," He smirked.

"Henry, really it's..."I began but was cut off.

"Iz really it's no big deal. I got it." He replied. "Two tickets please." He asked the ticket person.

I ignored how he called me Iz, usually I would chastise anyone who called me other than my regular name but, somehow him calling me this didn't affect me at all I actually kind of liked the sound of it.

Just as we got our tickets and entered the lobby of the theatre we see a not so friendly face arrive.

We both try to turn around as we both realize who we see,but our actions are failed as he walks toward us.

"Well look what we have here! Isn't this a small world after all!" Logan chimes.

"What are you doing here logan?" Henry says gritting his teeth in frustration.

"What? Can't a guy go to the movies with a friend without getting hassled?" He says mockingly. "I'm obviously here with my date Molly." He states.

"Um my name is Maddie not Molly!" The girl declares.

"Whatever Marisa, anyways what about you two what brings you here?"he asked questionably.

But before I could answer Henry went ahead and answered for me while grabbing for my hand in the process. With our fingers interlocking each other I started to get butterflies in my stomach, no snap out of it he's just holding your hand its not a big deal.

"Actually,Logan, this is a coincidence since Isabelle and I are also on a date right now." Henry replied confidently.

I could see Logan's face tighten as Henry spoke to him but still managed to say, "well isn't that nice, Henry finally found someone that isn't his ex to follow around like a sick puppy." And with that remark, Logan and his date left the theatre.

After they left it got truly awkward around Henry and I. I dropped his hand from mine but not knowing if what Logan said was the truth or another lie was driving me insane on the inside. What did he even mean by Henry following his ex around?! I didn't even know he had gotten out of a relationship recently or not.

I decided not to ask him about it, seeing as after Logan said that he looked pretty mad and kinda disappointed at the same time, which I didn't know how to respond to. But maybe I am wrong I'm honestly not the best person at reading people.

Although the movie went by pretty fast it was nothing but silence for the rest of the duration of our 'date'. Whoever said 'silence was golden' is a complete lair, it felt more like the tortured silence to me.

While I was thinking of all the reasons why Logan would say something like that and especially why Henry wouldn't talk or tell me about it? Though before I knew it we were both back at my cabin standing there in more silence!

I could then see Henry fidgeting nervously, what was he so nervous about, I may have a harder time understanding this guy than I thought.

I was about to say something but was cut off by him starting to speak.

"Listen Iz I'm really sorry about tonight it wasn't exactly how I planned this night to go and Logan being there just seemed to be the cherry on top,"he said sarcastically. "But I just want you to know that...I really do like you and giving me a second chance is probably not gonna happen but..." This time I cut him off before he could say anymore, letting him have a taste of his own medicine.

"Henry for what it's worth I had a really fun time tonight you know before Logan showed up, and the last thing I am right now is angry or upset. And its probably none of my business of what happened with you in the past anyway. I mean that wasn't your fault you didn't know he was going to be there, and even if he wasn't there I would still be more than happy to try this agian." I finished.

His frown then turned into a big grin as soon as I said those words,and he then picked me up in a monster sized hug!

"Thanks, Isabelle! I will explain everything,I promise you won't regret this!" He exclaimed.

He then set me down again and gave me a slight kiss on the cheek as he turned and said goodnight, as he headed back to his cabin.

Well even though I have another date with him and he didn't tell me when I'm glad he's not sad or whatever kind of mood he was in.

But really not trying to sound selfish but I think I deserved a little more than just a peck on the cheek (and no obvious explanation about his ex) for that night, though even that small gesture had sent sparks of electricity down my spine.

Maybe just maybe this could work out for the better for once in my life?

Henry's POV:

It was finally Saturday,which meant it was finally the day for my date with Isabelle.

I swear I was more nervous than ever for it.

When I went to pick her up by her cabin she looked amazing! I mean she always does but her beauty just seemed to intensify each time I saw her if that makes sense.

We made our way to the metro and soon arrived at the restaurant. The whole date seemed to be going perfectly as we just laughed and talked about ourselves. The only thing was that she seemed to stay away from the topic about her family, I mean we both kinda did but how good is it to tell a girl you like on the first date that your mom left you when you were just a kid?

Still, everything was going perfectly that is until we got to the movies.

We ran into Logan and one of his many 'friends' which he probably didn't even know the name to, and I was right.

I wasn't going to let Isabelle fall for his charms and quickly took her hand in mine, which seemed to make Logan pretty upset as a scowl crossed his face. He was just angry,since he always got what he wanted, well not this time.

But he still managed to make things worse.

"Well isn't that nice, Henry finally found someone that isn't his ex to follow around like a sick puppy." And with that remark, Logan and his date left the theatre.

After they left it got truly awkward around Isabelle and I. She dropped my hand from hers and looked at the ground. What did Logan just do?! He probably made her think I'm still hung up on some girl rather than her but he is an expert at lying, the 'ex' of mine was my half-sister and I was trying to find where my mom was since I found out she had another family other than the ones she left.

But I couldn't tell Isabelle that just yet, I didn't want her to pity me or think any less of me because of that. I would tell her soon just not yet.

So instead we both just remained silent until we came back to her cabin. She must hate me right now, thinking this is probably the worst date she has ever gone on and the biggest mistake she has ever made by agreeing to go out with me in the first place. I probably just ruined all my chances with her in this date.

"Listen Iz I'm really sorry about tonight it wasn't exactly how I planned this night to go and Logan being there just seemed to be the cherry on top,"I said sarcastically. "But I just want you to know that...I really do like you and giving me a second chance is probably not gonna happen but..." She cut me off before I could finish my sentence though.

"Henry for what it's worth I had a really fun time tonight you know before Logan showed up, and the last thing I am right now is angry or upset. And its probably none of my business of what happened with you in the past anyway. I mean that wasn't your fault you didn't know he was going to be there, and even if he wasn't there I would still be more than happy to try this agian." She finished.

My frown then turned into a big grin as soon as she said those words,and I then picked her up in a monster sized hug! I was so happy she was giving me a second chance I was not going to mess this one up, I promised myself.

"Thanks, Isabelle! I will explain everything,I promise you won't regret this!" I exclaimed.

I then set her down again and gave her a slight kiss on the cheek, I didn't want to push my luck with her, as I turned to her and said goodnight one last time as I then headed back to my cabin.

Maybe just maybe something could work out for the better for the first time in what seems like forever in my life?

BAM! There is another chapter posted! I'm sorry for not updating as much as I usually do but I do hope this chapter is plenty long to hold all of my readers over until the next!
