Chapter 2: Family
Third Person POV
"I wonder when they will be back?" Shoji looks at the clock on the wall, which was slightly giving off a 'ticking' noise.
"I'm sure they will be back soon. The process of adopting a child takes time," Zuno gave his wife a reassuring smile, while fixing the circular glasses that sit neatly on top of his nose.
Shoji glimpses at her husband's lips, feeling herself well up on the inside. She loved him very much, she loved the way his smile always made her feel warm. "You're right," she says and nods.
The dark-haired female was at the table, the table had a sea turtle center piece which was removable, and her drawing papers. Some papers had tiny doodles scribbled about and others had drawings of slowly dedicated drawn trees on them.
Shoji always loved to draw, she mostly drew spiritual sceneries, they kept her at peace. Zuno was the opposite from her, he was terrible at drawing, but he was much more known to science. The brunette loved discovering new things about the world, so when he can, he engineers a way to open up his mind.
Suddenly, the silent atmosphere was disturbed by a noise. This noise made Shoji look up from her work. "Hon, what was that?"
Zuno looked up at his wife, hearing the noise too. "Oh. I think I know 'what' that is. I'll go check it out," the brunette stopped whatever he was doing and got up to follow the ominous sound upon them.
He went through the house's hallway, noticing the sound was more overwhelming around this area. Once Zuno looked through the hallway, he let out a small chuckle. "Honey, what are you doing?" The brunette spotted a wild Takina ahead of him.
On instinct, Takina's face turned a bright red from embarrassment, but her face stayed solid while doing so. Zuno noticed the look on his daughter's face, searching around her for more context. A noticeable picture frame was laying in the floor, with a crack in its crease. "Oh," Zuno took a few steps closer towards Takina, realizing what had happened.
"I-I'm sorry," the younger female stuttered, short of any explanation on what has happened.
Zuno only let out a deep sigh and smiles at his dark haired daughter. "Don't worry so much on it. It was an accident, yeah?" The brunette squat down to Takina's level, cupping his hands on her shoulders, slowly rubbing them up and down where the skin was most noticeable.
Takina only gave a simple nod of her head. Her face kept its tinted color, even if she didn't express tremendous emotions on her face, Zuno was aware of how his daughter was feeling. The brunette was an expert at reading people, it was a side job for him. Even if reading people wasn't necessarily a job.
"Well, then enough said," Zuno positioned both of his hands away from his dark haired daughter, only to touch the broken frame of the picture.
The picture seemed hand drawn by Shoji, since her signature was permanently written in the right corner. The drawing consisted of various rainforest trees. The trees had droplets of rain drooping down the leaves. Creatures all shapes and sizes were creeping their way into the picture as you move your eyes around it. Some were in the patterned trees, other were walking around the surface walking about.
"Ah. So this is one of your mother's drawings. I see," Zuno was careful to protect the picture inside the frame, he wouldn't know what to do if his beloved wife's drawing was damaged in any way. He really wouldn't know.
That is what the dark-haired female was most scared of. She wasn't so much as scared of getting in trouble, she was more scared of getting in trouble because she damaged her mother's drawing. She wouldn't know what to do with herself if she was at fault for this. She really wouldn't know.
"Say, how about me and you fix this? We could do it together," said Zuno with a cheery attitude bouncing its way through Takina's ears. Her ears were pleased with her father's overly optimistic attitude.
Again, the younger female nodded her head, but this time a half smile found its way on her lips. Zuno took that as a 'yes' from his daughter, gingerly grabbing the frame with his finger tips.
He made his way through the hallway, and into the kitchen with Takina short behind him. Literally.
Shoji glanced at the material in her husband's hands, with worry. "It's alright. The frame was only cracked a bit, the drawing is safe," the brunette gave his wife another reassuring smile as he placed the picture on the table.
The older female let out a relieving sigh, thankful her husband was there to save the day. "Takina is helping me," he looked at Shoji before looking at his dark-haired daughter.
"Oh is she now?" Shoji curved the side of her lips into a smirk. Takina's face slightly blushed from the attention she was receiving.
"Honey, go get the super duper sticky glue," Zuno waved his hands in the air as to say the glue was something special.
"Yes, sir," the darker haired female quietly walked towards the draw attached to the counters, searching for a bottle of super glue.
Zuno centered the frame at best he could, so the picture looked just as new as it was before. "Did you find it yet?" The brunette asked his daughter a while after.
"Y-Yes, sir," Takina carefully handed her father a bottle of super glue. It seemed full enough, which is probably a good thing.
"Good job! Thank you," Zuno took the bottle away from Takina and gave her a tiny peck on the head. Takina did not mind affection, her only problem was she was never skilled at receiving affectionate gestures. Her father's kiss meant something to her, but she couldn't find the right response on what to do. Should she kiss back or leave it be? She was unsure to herself.
After Zuno kissed his daughter, he carefully spread out the picture, where the crack was, then he twisted the bottle cap off the super glue to let some of the liquid scurry out. The most difficult part however, was keeping the picture steady, so he needed a tiny assistant to help him.
"Takina, would you please hold the picture frame for me," Zuno asked his little assistant. The 'assistant' looked at the frame. With no hesitation, her tiny fingers pressed against the picture frame, gingerly holding it in place.
"Perfect! You're a natural," Zuno thanked his daughter for helping him; he could do nothing but smile freely. The brunette male squeezed the bottle; inches of super glue bursted out of the bottle onto the crack of the picture.
"I got it from here," once Zuno said that to his daughter, she removed her hands from the material. Soon after, the brunette pushed on the cracked area, making sure the two sides wouldn't fall apart again.
Shoji finished up her immaculate drawing of the wondrous tree, then took a step backwards to sit up from her chair. "Thank you my little craftswoman," the ravenette cupped Takina's cheek, going in for a kiss on her other cheek. Shoji wasn't as affectionate as her former partner, but that didn't necessarily mean she was bad at it. In her own way she loved affection.
"And you too my big craftsman," Shoji silently giggled to herself, dropping a kiss upon her husband's lips. Zuno happily agreed by kissing his wife back. "Eww," Takina jokingly said out loud to her parents's passion.
Takina's parents simply laughed at her reactions. They wouldn't trade their daughter for the world. They wouldn't dare even try.
"Say hello to a new and completed family."
