Chapter 8 - Where Am I?
I awoke in a dark, cold, damp room. I groaned putting my hand up to my head looking around the mysterious room, realizing I was no longer in school. I smiled weakly knowing I was dead. I mean I felt dead but why didn't I feel happy about this? I've wanted this for so long but now I felt…. empty.
I gazed around the room it didn't have any windows or furniture well except for the bed I was now sitting up on but other than that there was just a door it was closed. Did I die? I was second guessing myself. Who am I kidding, I did die or I wouldn't be in this weird ass place! I got off of the bed and looked at my arms all my cuts and scars were gone? Suddenly an ear piercing creek breaks the silence of the room. Snapping my head in the direction the noise came from to my surprise the door was now open.
I slowly got up from the bed walking closer to the door to see a dark figure leaning against the door frame. As I walked closer I heard a soft chuckle escape their mouth. I walked even closer than before until their shape finally came into view. I gasp jumping back as they laughed like a maniac falling to the floor clutching their stomach with laughter.
“Oh it feels so great to see you again autumn” She disappeared then appeared next to me whispering in my ear. I looked at her and saw her smirking her red eyes ablaze.
“Oh, autumn don't you like my presence?" She said fake disappointment lacing her voice.
I covered my ears as the voices flooded through my mind like a storm in the ocean tearing at my ears.
“No no no no no no!” I scream as memories screeched and hollered trying to escape, sending me to my knees.
“Stop, stop, stop, stop!!”I shout through tears as my voice echoes throughout the dark room. My finger felt wet, sticky, and warm but I didn't care. I just want the voices to stop.
“Heh welcome back! Oh, think of the fun we will have! Just like the good old days!” She said kneeling down to me on the floor. Suddenly the voices grew quieter until they were nothing but little rings in my ears. I sighed smiling a little but quickly hid it.
“Shhh,” She comforted me petting my head as I rocked back and forth tear strained eyes and bloody hands. What happened next is something I will never forget for the rest of my worthless life.
“Remember all those years you locked me away in that godforsaken cage?” She paused looking at my reaction it was the same, horrified and shaking.
“When I take control I'll remember to do that to you but I will make you suffer.“ With that, she laughed maniacally again pulling away pushing me to the floor.
“Night please stop,” I said my voice shaky coming nowhere near a whisper. Then I heard a new voice. A low whisper as red covered my vision.
“When you wake up you will be sorry you ever left home.” I froze to my spot that voice it haunted me even when my eyes weren't closed. How did he get here?! That voice, that voice was James. No, no, no, no, no, no! I shook my head violently wanting to wake up from this nightmare but no matter how hard I tried I wouldn't wake up. . . . .
------------------------------
I woke up gasping for air shaking rapidly looking around the bright room. Not caring where I was or who was there I broke down crying I went to pull my hand to shield my face but they got pulled back? I look over at my hands to see they were restrained or tied to the bed I was in. I looked around some more noticing immediately where I was. . . I was in a hospital. . . I panicked, I can’t be here if James found out he'd kill me, literally!
I looked around some more for an escape but was distracted when I heard the door open slowly. I flinch when I saw a nurse walk in with a tray.
“Heh, you're awake! That's good.” The nurse said calmly her southern accent standing out. She sat the tray down and walked over to me. I moved away from her to the far side of the bed glaring daggers.
“Why am I here,” I said through clenched teeth my voice cracking I narrowed my still watery eyes. I probably looked like hell, to be honest.
She looked at me and sighed turning her head away.
“Look darlin'.” the nurse said her voice cracking a little. She turned her head back to me as I stared into warming eyes.
“You're lucky you're even alive. After a fight like that, we didn't even think you'd make it!” She said her eyes glossy. She had a hint of surprised in her voice walking around my bed to me. I scooted away from her making her frown once more.
“Look hon' 'm not going to hurt you,” She calmly walked back to the bed before stopping in front of me. I didn't move this time just stared. I don't know why but I felt like I could. . . trust her. She took some blood test and looked at me, a proud smile.
“See darlin' you're as well as a daisy!” The nurse said smiling a kind soothing smile. I didn't smile back though as I looked at her shirt. It was a bright ugly green color that sagged on her shoulders, on her left side a little gold plate hung there reading, 'Laura'.
I tried to move my hands to rub my eyes but groaned in annoyance when I felt them get pulled back down, again.
“Oh yeah, you have to wear those. . .” She said giving me a look of sympathy.
“Why?” I asked, more like demanded, glaring at her as hard as I could. I hated it when people gave me sympathy.
“Because darlin' you got cuts all up an' down your arms as well as your skinny lil' legs!” Laura’s whole face saddened looking at me. I scoffed attempting to cross my arms when the restraints pulled them. I hated this. I heard the door open but this time not so quietly.
I looked to see who it was I'm pretty sure the color of my face drained away. I could tell Laura knew something was up because she looked worried at my sudden change in mood. I just continued to stare horrified at who was standing at the door.
