Part 11
There stood the most beautiful bride in the world. Green and golden dress mixed with pink and red veil right across her waist, horizontal going till her shoulder and hanging behind at the back. She had brightest smile on her face which was covered with light make up. But heavy jewellery was adoring her neck, face, head with matching waist chain. Her arms covered with mehendi and colourful bangles.
Khushi was the happiest person today, although she knew Arnav was happier than her. He had been taking care of her since the breakout about her pregnancy. He had been very strict about her jumping and dancing but tried his best to keep her happy. Give her whatever she wanted: May it be jalebis at night, romantic talk, movies of Salman Khan, going to temple with her just for her happiness.
But there was a person who was happier than these two: Dadi! Since she knew about Khushi's pregnancy, she hadn't missed that glow on her face. She didn't want to break the news of her pregnancy to family only. She wanted to break Khushi, to shatter her self-respect, destroy her honour. She should die with shame. So Dadi had a plan...a plan to destroy Khushi and get her out of the house...forever!
Everyone was so happy as finally the most awaited day had arrived. The ruthless Arnav Singh Raizada was going to marry. But he wasn't the same man anymore he had been a year ago. He was changed for the better. He had developed a loving site, better say he had started showing that side of him. Nobody knew, but he was being a caring husband to his pregnant wife and a loving father to his unborn.
And there he stood now, watching Khushi being brought down by Anjali and Payal. She was looking the most gorgeous bride in the world. He had a constant smile on his face, just staring his (to be) wife. The only reason he was standing there at that mandap was her 'cause it didn't matter to him what anyone thinks about his relationship with her. Her happiness was the sole reason that even he agreed to "complete" their marriage. Basically, because he didn't believe in all this superstition. If a girl and a boy love each other and are willing to spend their entire life being with their better half, then why do they require a certificate to be with each other. A certificate based on superstition and without guarantee, because divorces do happen. But love also means to consider other's opinion, respect their beliefs and compromise in some things as long as it doesn't harm you or your self-respect.
He forwarded his hand as Khushi climbed up the two stairs to reach the mandap and be beside him. Khushi happily held it and smiled at him while he stared her. But her smile turned into blush when he whispered a compliment in ears.
All had a constant smile on the faces. Some envied them and some admired this couple. Both the families were happy. For Raizadas, it was a dream to see Arnav marrying at all since he had declared his wish of not marrying, many times. And somewhere, not just Nani but the whole family was happy that his lady love was a typical Indian traditional girl.
On the other side, Guptas were happy to be able to marry Khushi according to traditions and customs, just like her real parents would have wanted to. Being just her Maasi and not her real mother, Garima always feared that Khushi may feel a lack of love and she didn't want Khushi to feel that they differentiate between Payal and her. Although they knew Khushi was the last person to think so. But they tried and did their best to offer her a memorable and beautiful marriage.
"Chote, Khushiji, now you both please sit down and stop staring each other. Later at night you can stare each other as much as you want."
Anjali giggled thinning her lips making both look down with a shy smile.
"Di, if they stare each other, who will celebrate Suhaagraaat then?"
NK's teasing comment made Khushi gulp and Arnav just rolled his eyes at him but chuckled seeing Khushi. All laughed and Nani came in the the front.
"Chote, Khushi bitiya, you both sit. Panditji, you start now."
Pandit nodded and the couple turned and was just to sit when another very familiar voice echoed in the beautifully decorated venue hall.
"Thehro!" ("Stop!")
All, including the bride and groom looked behind to see the person who just dared to stop Arnav Singh Raizada's marriage.
"Sumi, what happened? Why are you saying so?"
Nani broke the silence and asked what all were having in their mind though all the aunties there thinking and discussing of possible reasons already.
Arnav's hand formed a fist and he just hoped she doesn't create another drama now. He's just wanting to do the nuptial rounds and complete their marriage so they can live in peace and not have to bear any family drama.
"This marriage can't take place."
Dadi came further to the mandap to be in the lime light now. The noise in the hall made by the crowd grew louder.
"And why can't it take place? What's the problem now?"
Arnav grit his teeth and came down off the mandap to eye Dadi now.
"I don't want to marry my grandson to such a girl who doesn't have any shame to get pregnant before marriage."
There was a loud gasp in the crowd. The family members of both the families stood there shocked with widened eyes. Arnav was not less shocked, but in contrary to others he was shocked that Dadi knew about their pregnancy!
And there was another person standing there whose eyes were filling up and heartbeat went faster. Her lips started shivering and she couldn't look up anymore in order to not make any eye contact with anyone else.
"But it doesn't surprise me. After all this lies in her blood."
Khushi looked up at Dadi and her eyes were leaving big fat tears already as Dadi now went on to insult her family.
But she was not the only lady to having her eyes in tears already. Garima clutched her Sari as Dadi would reveal the bitter truth now.
"Dadi! Khushi's pregnant with MY child! So why just putting blames on her character. You can't insult her and her family because of this."
Arnav's temper was already out of control but only he knew how he still tried to stay calm and not start shouting.
"I don't blame her family."
Arnav frowned and stared at her bewildered. What the hell does she want? Why can't she just him and Khushi alone?
"Just her Maasi, what else could one have expected from her?"
Garima already joined her hands at Dadi, nodding in denial and silently begging her to not bring up that old story. It will only destroy everything.
"Dadi, you're elder and that's why we all respect you. So I'm just saying this for the one and last time: please don't cross your limits. You don't have any right to insult Aunty."
He hated Dadi's pointless taunts and talks. Why does she always think she's only right and good and everyone else is just bad, so basically all who don't go along with her arguments and visions.
"I'm not crossing my limits. But that Khushi and her Maasi did."
"Khushi didn't cross any limits. And why are you bringing aunty in that?"
Khushi looked at Arnav sobbing silently as he was the only one to stand up for her and her Amma. Everyone else were too baffled and guests were busy watching the drama and adding their own spices in that.
"The woman you are standing up for...you even know what she did? When you will get to know, your blood will boil and you'll yourself not want to marry in such a family and not want to have any relationship with that woman."
He raised his one brow now glaring her, puzzled. Why can't she just talk straight and just tell what's the matter?
"What do you mean Dadi?"
Dadi raised her hand and straightly showed him a photo to which he stood there widening his eyes. It was as if the ground was shivering and he was just to fall in a hole leading to nowhere.
All others just gazed them and now sensed there's something more than just Khushi's pregnancy.
Arnav's hand slowly went up to take the photo but the scene of that worst day in his life running in his mind. The wedding venue, his sister's marriage and then...a shot! "Maaa" That one word echoing in his ears as his eyes welled up and he trembled.
Just a second, and he was standing there again. His Maa running and a shot to be heared, after a little while another shot follows. He was standing in between the scenario...he was again in that time when his and his sister's life shattered and broke into pieces. When they lost their parents and their everything.
"Chote, what happened? Why are you-"
Anjali came forward seeing the tears in her brother's eyes and she was no less shocked once having a glance on that photo of her father and Garima.
"That woman who ruined our family, because of whom your parents committed suicide is none else than Garima, Khushi's Maasi!"
To say all were shocked would be an underestimation. Khushi frowned and looked at her Amma still in between her sobs. Garima was already crying and walked over to Dadi to once again plead her and try to tell her she's innocent but she didn't listen 14 years ago and she somewhere knew now she too won't listen. But for Khushi, she wanted to try.
"Arnav bitua, Dadiji, once listen to me. I didn't-"
"Why should we listen to you? You ruined our family's happiness, destroyed my son's life. Because of you he and his wife committed suicide...Didn't you feel ashamed for trapping a married man?"
But before Garima could explain, as usually she was interrupted by Dadi again. Khushi gasped and ran to her Amma who was crying and breaking down. Buaji oogled Garima but next glared Dadi in anger for she wasn't even letting her speak.
"I didn't know he's married. Believe me, I didn't know."
"Amma, what is going on? What's this all?"
Finally there was another voice and that was of Khushi. Arnav turned his face to See Khushi. She was the niece of the woman with whom his father had an affair with. She called same woman her Amma!
"Oh. How innocent both of you act. Maasi trapped the father and niece got his son into her trap. Such shameless women you both are. One had an affair with a married man and the other gets pregnant without marriage. I don't want to marry my grandson into such a family and with such a girl."
Dadi was full on insulting Garima not leaving any made up point to offend them. Khushi looked at Arnav with her overflowing eyes as he was staring her but didn't say anything. He always claimed he loved her. She gave up her morals for him and believed him and his love. So she hoped he would stand for her now when she needs him. Why was he just staring her?
She knew he would understand her if he truely loved her. She knew he would understand her. She knew it and hoped he would prove his love to her now and stand up for her or didn't she matter to him more than Dadi's accusings? Or was he too much into the pain of his lost Mother that he won't realize him losing Khushi?
"I can't marry you Khushi. Abort the child!"
