Chapter Five
"Mr. Mendes." I said and he looked at me. I was dressed up in a nice dress, my hair done up, and light makeup on.
He said if people wanted to buy the fact we're dating, we need to be seen with one another in public a lot. I just agreed to the lunch date and told him I'd dress nice.
"You look stunning." He said and I thanked him, actually catching a handful of people take pictures. One was a grown man, probably paparazzi, the others teenage girls, most likely fans of his.
"Thank you." I said and he led me to a table. Two cups of coffee were already there and two muffins, chocolate chip they looked like.
"Have you packed? Our flight is scheduled to leave tomorrow." He said and I nodded as I crossed my legs.
"Yeah, I packed the other day with my friend." I said and he nodded. "Do I need to bring a lot?"
"No, one or two suit cases will be fine. You can buy things over there." He said and I nodded, reminded of the fact I'm allowed to take his credit card and buy whatever the fuck I wanted.
That just hasn't sunken in quite yet.
"Alright, I packed really light so..." I told him and he nodded as he set his hand on my thigh.
"You look really good in this dress, Monica." He said and I thanked him as he took a drink of his coffee.
"You don't look too bad yourself." I said, my fingers playing with the buttons on the grey Henley shirt he had on.
"Thanks, I tried." He said and I rolled my eyes and looked at him. "I dislike wearing my suit outside of the office or when I'm not at a photoshoot."
"Who runs your business while you're on tour and stuff?" I asked him and he crossed his legs too.
"My good friend Alex." He said and I nodded. "He is the co-owner, it's just not many people remember the fact it's co-owned. Camera's almost always on me."
"I forgot." I said honestly and he chuckled, wrapping an arm around my shoulders. I leaned into him to fed the act and he leaned down.
"You're gonna have to come to my concerts." He said and I nodded as I looked at him. "Hope you enjoy the shows."
"I think I will. I'm always up for a concert." I staid and he nodded as he dropped his sunglasses, letting them rest on the bridge of his nose as he picked at a muffin. "Your music isn't bad."
He chuckled and nodded. "Not bad, great for my self esteem. It isn't good, just... not bad." He said, clearly joking, and I rolled my eyes.
"You know what I mean." I said and he told me that he did. I picked up my cup of coffee and took a drink as he pulled his phone out.
I watched as he went through his social media and then looked at me. "What's your Instagram?" He asked and went to search it as I told him.
He followed me and then nodded. "And so the rumors start." He said and I smiled smally, unsure if I was ready to have his entire fanbase coming at me for "taking" their man.
He liked a few of my pictures, selfies of myself when I got bored, and then liked random things off of his timeline. "Would you like to go to dinner tonight?" He asked me and I nodded.
"That'd be lovely." I said, mimicking the formal way he talked. He rolled his eyes and laughed a bit before looking at his phone.
-
"I'll see you soon?" I told Kiara and she nodded as we shared a hug. "I'll miss you KiKi, now who's supposed to help me with makeup? I can barely apply eyeliner."
"You'll be just fine, you lived with me for a long while." She said and I nodded. "I'll miss you too though Monica, stay safe alright? Fight people if you need too and don't be afraid of the laundry machines, they won't kill you."
"I know." I said and she kissed my cheek. "Call me as soon as you land, and right before you leave, promise me." I said and she nodded.
"I promise to call you as soon as in get to the airport and as soon as I land. You do the same alright?" She said and I nodded, promising her that I would. "Now go get dressed for your dinner with Mr. Mendes, go talk business and shit."
"Okay." I said and smiled, tears brimming my eyes at the thought of not seeing my best friend face to face for a long while.
"Don't cry." She said and hugged me once more, giving me a squeeze as she buried her face in my neck. "Breaks exist."
"I know. I'm just going to miss you so much." I said and she rubbed my back. "I'm keeping you from your flight, I'm so sorry. You go, go catch your flight. I'm being clingy." I said and she laughed.
"I'll call you, it's okay." She said and I nodded. "I love you."
"I love you too, go make Taylor look gorgeous." I said and she nodded before getting into the car. "Bye KiKi." I said and she smiled.
"Bye Moni."
The car left and I walked back towards the apartment building. "I don't even want to go anymore." I said to myself as I wiped my eyes, trying to think about what I was going to wear, or how I was supposed to keep from crying.
-
"How was your day?" Mr. Mendes asked me and I gave him a small smile as I swished around the wine in my cup.
"Alright," I said and he nodded, not seeming to push it too far. "Your day?" I asked and he set his glass down.
"After lunch, I had a meeting that went sideways, but other than that, it's good." He told me and I nodded. "A night out with a beautiful woman, a bottle of aged wine, and a delicious dinner is just the way to end the day."
"Funny, a night out with a very attractive man, a bottle of delicious wine, and a nice dinner is a fantastic ending to my day aswell." I said and he laughed a bit.
"I'm glad, cheers?" He asked as he held his glass of wine up. His large hand seemed to just swallow up the dainty glass, and I smiled, despite the hot feeling washing over me, and raised my glass aswell.
"Cheers to great endings for bad days." I said and we both laughed as we clinker our glasses together. We took a drink and then set the glasses on the table.
I shook my head as he looked at me and then picked my fork up. "Your friend left today?" He asked and I nodded.
"Yeah, her flight left about an hour ago, little more maybe." I said and he checked his watch. "She called me before she left, and she's supposed to call me when she lands, just so I know she made it there safely."
"That's sweet." He said and I nodded. "You two have been best friends for how long?"
"Um... since we were in diapers I believe. It's always been us two together." I said and smiled. "So us being apart like this is kinda strange and new. Quite frankly, I'm not a fan of it."
"I didn't suspect that you would be." He told me and I shrugged my shoulders.
"When does our flight leave tomorrow?"
"Our flight leaves tomorrow, bright and early in morning." He said and I nodded as he picked his fork up. "I'll be by your house at six am sharp and from there we will go to the jet."
"What?" I asked, not only intimidated by overwhelmed at how quickly everything was changing in my life.
I'm used to traveling by plane. Not once have I ever stepped inside of a jet, nor did I think I ever would.
"You think we're flying in some crummy, overrated plane? No dear, we're flying in my personal jet, don't worry." He said and I almost choked.
"You have a-"
"Who am I again, Ms. Ramirez?" He asked me and I took a drink of my water. "Who?"
"Sh-Shawn Mendes." I said and he nodded. "World famous musician and manager."
"Exactly." He said and I felt intimidated as I remembered who I was with. It slips my mind most of the time, but right now, as I remembered who he was, it just hit me like a train.
"Don't forget that." He said, leaning forward and pressing his finger under my chin, lifting my gaze to his eyes.
"I won't sir." I breathed out and he gave me a lopsided smile, an air chuckle following.
"It's daddy to you now," he said and I gulped, his brown eyes staring at me intently. "But if you wish, you can call me sir or Mr. Mendes on public... if you wish."
"For now." I said and he gave me an understanding nod of the head. "We'll see as things advance."
