Chapter Twenty-Seven: Left Hanging

"What time is it?" I wondered, still sitting in my seat with Joshua at my side.

My entire body twitched when Joshua told me the time.

"Shit! We have like an hour and a half to get to the place!" I yelled, jumping from my seat.

Joshua did the exact same thing, but the action was interrupted by a thundering sneeze. I stopped on my tracks and I pivoted back to face him.

"You're not getting..." I trailed off, distantly horrified at the thought.

Joshua spoke at the same moment, "I think I'm getting-"

His statement was cut off by another sneeze. That answered my unspoken question.

"Oh, no, no, no. Lanning will kill me if you get sick!" I yelled in a terrified tone. His sneezing was an obvious result of our victory kiss. Not much of a victory now if it was the reason I could lose my job. Ironically, I sneezed a few moments later, with just as much vigor.

"Lilly, I can't get sick. Getting sick prevents me from doing photoshoots." Joshua said, pained.

It was not looking good. Joshua didn't need to finish his train of thought. We both knew what less photoshoots and runway walks meant.

We were the last people to leave the plane. We hadn't brought any luggage, so we wasted no time in picking anything up. During that time, I was constantly thinking of ways to cure Joshua to prevent him having a full blown cold. I whipped out my phone and started to Google quick remedies for the both of us.

My searching was interrupted when I received a text from Johnny.

Nice work Darling <3 Don't worry I'll let Lanning know that you couldn't make it. - Johnny

I read the text and became infuriated the more I continued to read.  If that asshole thought that I had failed, then he had another thing coming! If there was one thing that I took particular pleasure in doing, it was proving people wrong. I formulated a plan quickly in my head.

"Let's rent a car." I spoke, grabbing hold of Joshua's arm. I tried to ignore the tingles I got and the way my heart started to beat a little faster. I was just holding his freaking arm and already I was ready to have a love seizure. Guess I couldn't blame the women who went crazy when Joshua took off his shoes in the security check.

"So, we're not getting a cab?" Joshua asked, clearly thrown off by my change of plans. It also sounded like I wasn't the only one planning. What was he up to?

"No, Duh." I spoke, attention on the nearest rental station.

We finally picked the first one that came into view. Joshua immediately started talking to the employee, going as far as pulling out his wallet.

Usually, I took the reins in anything concerning transportation, but Joshua had gotten our cab during the New Year's event.

I figured that he had turned on a new leaf and took the opportunity to search more remedies on the web. I stumbled upon a particularly helpful site and focused my attention on that. By the time that my head actually popped back up, Joshua was already being handed car keys.

"Wow, I'm impressed, Lachowski." I observed, in a surprised tone. He hadn't even wasted time.

Joshua winked, before speaking, "To the Batmobile!"

I giggled at how dorky he was being, especially when he held his arm out for me to take.

I took it for the sake of playing along. We walked out into the parking lot, following the directions on the ticket that had been handed to Joshua. We searched for the parking space number, until a simple coupe came into view.

I smiled, already getting close to the passenger seat door. My entire smile dropped from my face when I read the number it was on. Seeing that it didn't belong to our ticket, I turned my head to the car in the space next to it.

I checked and double checked the number on the lot and ticket, seeing it match both times. I pulled my arm out of Joshua's and used it to smack him over the read.

"Ouch! What was that for?" He wondered, rubbing the spot. I hadn't even gotten him hard enough.

"A Lamborghini? Are you serious right now?" I asked, shaking my head. I could not believe that he had rented us a freaking Lamborghini.

"What the hell, Joshua?" I yelled, freaking out. We were not taking that off of the lot.

I turned to find Joshua smiling, looking at the car as if it was Jesus. That was a look of a man in love, and for a moment I was jealous. I, Lilly Fenster, felt jealous towards a car. A freaking expensive car, but degrading nonetheless.

"Quit looking at it like it's a topless chick! We are changing the model right now!" I yelled, already walking determinedly back towards the airport.

"Aw, come on, Jilly!" Joshua whined. His saddened tone almost made me turn around, but not quite.

I shook my head, walking even faster towards my goal.

"We only have an hour left!" Joshua yelled towards me as a last attempt. It freaking worked, because when I checked the time, he was right. We really didn't have time to change the damn thing.

I walked back towards him angrily and stared him down when I reached him. Our small stare down was witnessed by a few people. My face broke into a grin when I finally thought of my revenge.

"Fine," I complied, still smiling. Joshua fist pumped into the air, triumphantly, already pulling out the keys and crawling into the driver's side.

"But," I threw in. "I'm driving."

I yanked the keys from Joshua's fist and maneuvered myself into the seat. In a few seconds, Joshua had been left outside, while I had ended up in the driver's seat. His entire face fell.

I thought he was going to fight me, but instead he slumped his shoulders and started to make his way towards the passenger side. His disappointment stabbed at me. He must have really wanted to keep the car. Rolling my eyes, I stepped out into the open again. Joshua looked up at me, surprised.

"You have five seconds to grab the keys and start the damn car." I spoke, grudgingly. It was all worth it when Joshua's face broke into a huge smile and he practically flew towards my hand that was holding the keys.

"I swear to God, Joshua. If you crash this car, I will kill you." I told him seriously.

"Yes, Ma'am." Joshua responded, bringing his hand up to his forehead in a salute.

The gesture made me smile, as we finally pulled out of the airport.

We hadn't even been driving for more than twenty minutes and my hands had not stopped holding on to my seat. Joshua was really pushing the gas, obviously enjoying himself. Instead of having the time of my freaking life, all I could do was pray that we didn't crash.

I didn't even care about getting hurt, the fucking car was a bigger priority. We finally stopped at a red light and my entire body deflated. I felt like a balloon that had been filled way too much. I scanned our surroundings, taking some of the city in.

I noticed a man selling fruit right next to us and jumped out of my seat. He had oranges! One of the cures that I had read about! I quickly poked Joshua until he rolled his window down.

I didn't speak any damn Spanish so it took us a long time to finally tell the man what we wanted to buy. Joshua understood what he was saying a little bit better.

It took us so long that cars started to beep at us when we didn't immediately start driving when the light turned green. I started to obsessively peel the small bag of oranges, once we finally started to drive.

"Are you going to tell me why we just bought a sack of Oranges from a guy on the street?" Joshua asked, still pushing the gas as much until was barely legal.

"Don't talk, eat." I ordered, feeding him a wedge of the orange. I tried not to think about the fact that I was feeding him, but I did not want to risk him moving his hands from the wheel. I was peeling so fast that Joshua's mouth looked like a squirrel's, as I pushed more and more oranges into him. I started to pop a few into my mouth and alternated between feeding Joshua and then myself.

"We will not get sick!" I declared like a mad woman.

We finally made it to the place where the runway show would be happening. It was packed, but we finally parked. I grabbed hold of Joshua's hand when I saw him head towards the door he was supposed to go into.

"Wait! I have a plan." I told him, determination lacing my tone.

Joshua didn't question me, and simply gestured for me to go first. I went into full ninja mode the moment that we walked through the doors. Joshua had a huge smirk on his face when he saw me crouching.

"Who's being dorky now?" He questioned, smirking even wider.

"You are. Now get on your knees!" I ordered.

"Doesn't the guy usually say that?" He asked, crouching down beside me. I didn't bother to give him an answer. Instead, I kicked him with my foot. We were huddled behind a rack of clothes, which jingled when Joshua yelled in pain. I turned around to tell him to be quiet, to which he complied.

We continued to maneuver ourselves through the racks and hangers, quickening our pace as we got closure backstage. I was determined to have Johnny and the rest of the crew find me and Joshua at the makeup and dressing stations before them. I was going to shock the motherfuckers.

"Hurry!" I whispered to Joshua the moment that I recognized Johnny's trademark purple boots form under the racks. I saw what I could only guess as Amanda's and Gola's feet following closely behind. They were nearing the place that I wanted to surprise them at!

I started to practically run under the clothes, tripping over several metal bars in the process. Joshua wasn't doing any better, loudly cursing for every stumble.

"Fuck!" He cursed, after banging his head on one of the hangers. He was a lot taller than me, so I could understand his dilemma. I was still pissed off that he making so much damn noise, though.

"Will you shut it?" I whispered to him, standing up and turning around the face him. Joshua only shook his head and continued to trudge behind me.

Huffing, I turned my head and tried to continue towards my destination. The problem with trying is that you have the opportunity to fail. Fail I did, my head ended up smacking backwards into the previous spot I had occupied.

My body also crashed with Joshua's as I stumbled backwards. I slowly realized that my bun had gotten stuck in one of the hangers.

"Fuck!" I yelled.

"Uh, Lilly?" Joshua commented in a mildly shocked tone. He pointed up towards the hanger on which my hair was currently tangled in. My hands shot up to the mess my head was in. I tried to untangle the locks with my fingers to no avail. If anything, I might have been making everything worse.

"Joshua?" I pleaded. I wasn't going to lie, I was frustrated and a little scared. What if I ended up ripping everything out? Or worse yet, what if I could never get the hanger out and I had to live the rest of my life with a freaking hanger stuck on my head?

"Don't worry. It's just a little stuck-" Joshua told me in a serious tone, as his fingers tried to unlock the disaster on my scalp.

I looked down for a brief second and saw that Johnny was dreadfully close to the place. Screw the hanger!

"No time!" I finally yelled, pulling Joshua's hands out from above my head. I took the dress that was on the hanger and put it on a new one, while I let the old hanger hang on my head by my hair. I was determined.

Pulling Joshua's hand, I made us run towards the second doors. We flew in a full minute before Johnny.

I used that minute to conceal the hanger towards the back of my head.

It was all worth it when Johnny, Gola, and Amanda walked in. Johnny's snarky smirk was quickly replaced by a look of surprise. Amanda and Gola, both went from looking satisfied to completely disappointed in half a second, as well.

"What-How did you guys make it here?" Johnny wondered. He looked very impressed at me. I managed to smirk

"We couldn't leave you guys hanging." I replied, sweetly.

"Two puns in one day, Jilly?" Joshua smiled down at me, focusing on the hanger still on my head. My cheeks reddened, but I didn't miss the tight lipped look I got from Gola when she realized that Joshua had a nickname for me.

"Ew, what is that smell?" Amanda asked out loud. She got a little closer to us and took a small whiff, before covering her mouth and nose.

"You two stink!" She declared. I was insulted, until I remembered the durian.

The designer walked in at the exact moment that Johnny and Gola took a few steps away from us.

"Alright people, I need you two in hair and make-up!" The chubby balding man ordered. I knew he was some fancy pants designer, but didn't really know his name.

"Oh, is that a new cologne Lachowski? I have got to get me a bottle of that! Also, nice hanger, Darling. Very Avant-Garde" The small man declared appreciatively towards Joshua and I.

Everyone's mouths dropped, including my own, as Joshua and Gola were ushered onto one of the stations.

Good ol' durian.
