Chapter 6

*Draven*

After dinner, we all pitched in to help clean up. That was the best pasta I have ever tasted and the cherry delight was to die for. I'll take that over cake any day.

Wren was washing dishes when I brought the last of the dirty ones to the sink. She smiled up at me when I placed them in the water.

"So, is Sugar going to be at the club tonight?" Sam asks as he takes a seat at the table.

Wren stiffens at the mention of Sugar's name. Does she not like her?

We all turn our attention to Reese waiting for his reply.

I would also like to know if Sugar will be there. Even the girls at our other locations talk about her. And I have seen the videos of her dancing and let me tell you that girl has some moves. The way her body moves to the music is hypnotizing.

"Yes, she'll be there. Why do you ask?" Reese asks and stands beside Wren. I glance between the two of them. They sure are acting strange.

"Well, I wanted to see one of her shows live while I was here and possibly meet her," he says, shrugging his shoulders.

Not going to lie, I also want to see her dance. That would be a great birthday gift. I have talked to many of our associates who have got to see her perform and they say she is worth the time.

"Well that is all up to Wren, here," he says patting her on her back.

I look at Reese briefly in confusion. He isn't making any sense. The last time I checked we owned the club, not her.

"No offense Wren, but why is it up to her?" Matt questions Reese. I can hear the confusion in his voice. We all look at Reese and wait for him to speak.

Reese looks around the room and clears his throat. "She plans all the shows, that's why."

Ah, that's right! I do remember him telling me that she takes care of the event planning and schedules.

"Besides you guys don't need to go to the club to meet her when she's been sitting in front of you the entire night," he says looking at Wren with a smile on his face.

She freezes in her place. All eyes are now on her. She can't be Sugar...can she?

"So let me get this straight. What you're telling us is that Wren, is Sugar?" Sean asks.

Not once did Reese mention that Wren was Sugar. Wren, turns away from the sink, giving us her full attention. Reese snakes his arm around her waist and pulls her gently into his side.

Reese grabs her hand and spins her around slowly, showing her off like she's a trophy. I take a step back and examine her closely from head to toe and I'm not the only one. From what I have seen of Sugar, online, she definitely looks like her. My eyes widen when the realization hits me.

"Oh my god you really are Sugar," I shout in surprise.

The giggle she lets out almost makes me crumble before her. Just when I thought she couldn't get any hotter she does.

"Limo is here," Reese says bringing me from my thoughts. Wren rushes towards the door like she's escaping from a burning building.

Before the guys and I even make it to the door Wren is already climbing into the limo. How a woman can run in heels without breaking anything will forever remain a mystery to me. We enter the limo and begin our short journey to the club.

Wren stays silent the entire ride. We arrive at the club a few minutes later. Someone opens the door and Wren quickly exits the limo. Wren meets us at the door and we all walk in together. The music gets louder the further we venture in. Bodies dance all around us as Wren leads us to the VIP section.

A waitress with red hair wearing a black bra and a short skirt greets us and takes our orders. Before leaving she sends me a wink.

"Not here two minutes and the girls are already taking a liking to you," Reese shouts over the music and smirks.

Reese bends down and whispers something in Wren's ear. What the hell is he saying to her?

Wren pulls out a radio and speaks into it.

A few minutes later five beautiful women come into the VIP section. A blond makes her way to me plants herself on my lap and smiles. I place my left hand on her back and my right hand on her thigh and return the smile.

My eyes flicker to Wren as she stands, pulling her dress down. "You boys have fun!" Her eyes land on me before she leaves. I watch as she disappears into the crowd.

The cute blond sitting on my lap pulls my face towards hers and plants a sloppy kiss on my lips. Before I knew it we were in a full-blown make session.

*Wren*

It's been a few hours since I left the guys alone with the girls. Reese has been calling and texting me to come join them. I don't know how many times I have to tell him I don't want to sit there and watch as they all suck faces. I walk up to the bar and order two shots. Al, the club's bartender gives me a questioning look.

"Don't ask," I tell him seriously, holding my hand up. He throws his own hands up in surrender and pours me my shots. I "cheer" the girls to the left of me and slam the first shot, welcoming the burn. The second shot goes down much smoother.

"Are you okay, Wren?" Al asks with concern.

"Yeah, it's been one hell of a day that's all," I tell him truthfully as he pours me a third shot, handing it to me with a wink.

I send him a thankful smile and down the shot quickly.

"The burn feels good huh?" A blond hair man says as he takes a seat next to me.

"I'm Jack," he says extending his hand out to me for me to shake.

Oh hell, I can use the company. "I'm Wren," I introduce myself shaking his hand with a smile.

He holds on to my hand a little longer than expected. I clear my throat and glance down at my hand. "Oh sorry," he chuckles and releases my hand.

"Can I buy you a drink?" He asks kindly. Ah, the classic pick-up line.

"If I let you buy me a drink don't think I'll be going home with you later," I tell him completely serious.

You don't know how many times men have bought me drinks and expected me to climb into bed with them. I may not play the game, but I know it pretty well. I'm just not that type of girl. Never have been and never will be. He nods his head and smiles and orders us both a drink.

After a while, Jack excuses himself, leaving me alone. A man and woman fighting to grab my attention. I watch as the man grabs the woman roughly by the arm and slams her back hard into the bar's countertop. I cringe when she yelps in pain and begins to sob. Al yells at the man and threatens him with security but it does nothing.

The man makes eye contact with me. His eyes are wild. I know he's had more than just a few drinks.

"Hey, pretty lady," the man slurs. Al snaps his head in my direction giving me a worried look. I ignore the man and focus on, Al.

I didn't even see or hear the man approaching until he was standing over me.

"Hey buddy, I think you need to back off," Al warns the man.

"Fuck off," he yells and waves off his warning.

I try to stand but the man grabs my arm, holding me in place. I see Al reach for his radio and bring it up to his lips, only to have the man snatch it out of his hand, smashing it off the counter and breaking it.

While the man has his attention on Al, I reach into my bag slowly pull out my radio, and call for security. Just as Reese's voice comes over the radio the man backhands me right in the mouth, knocking me off the bar stool. I land hard on the floor hitting the back of my head. I hear Reese's voice screaming something in the distance as I'm being pulled up by my hair.

I yelp in pain when he yanks me towards him.

My gaze shifts to the fast-approaching security just as they tackle the man to the ground taking me with them. I scramble to my feet as fast as I can and jump over the bar with Al, taking a seat on the floor.

"Where's Wren?" A frantic, Reese yells.

" I'm here," I managed to say, alerting him to my position.

Reese jumps over the bar and kneels down in front of me.

"I'm sorry," I croak and begin to cry.

If I would have went back when Reese asked me, this wouldn't have happened. Reese pulls me onto his lap and tries to soothe me through my sobs.

"Is she okay?" Draven asks softly as he squats down in front of me. "God she's trembling," He takes off his jacket and places it around me. The smell of his cologne is actually quite soothing.

"Reese, the cops want to speak with you outside," One of the security guards calls over the radio. They got here fast.

"Okay, I'll be out in a minute," Is all he says into the radio.

I climb off Reese's lap and he stands and looks to his brother. "Can you stay with her until I get back?"

"Of course, I will," Draven responds quickly with an emotion I can't quite pinpoint. Draven helps me to my feet and the room begins to spin.

"Wren, are you okay?" Draven asks very concerned.

"The room is spinning," I tell him.

Draven grabs me by my head, gently turning it so I am looking at him. A weird look makes its way to his face as he pulls his hand away from my head.

His eyes widen in horror. "Wren, you're bleeding!" He grabs the sleeve of his jacket and holds it to my head. A tear breaks free and slides down my cheek. Draven wipes it away and pulls me into his chest.

*Draven*

When Wren's voice came over the radio requesting security assistance, Reese immediately reacted. The guys and I followed him to the balcony and looked towards the bar. Wren was lying on the ground when a large man grabbed her by the hair and violently pulled her up from the floor. Reese screams for Wren but she can't hear him over the music.

Reese rushed down the steps and in the direction of Wren when security tackled them both to the ground. I watched as Wren climbed quickly over the bar taking a seat on the floor. Before I knew it, I was also making my way towards, Wren. I don't know why but, I had to make sure she was okay. When I finally reached her, Reese had her shaking body pulled onto his lap, soothing her.

I feel my shirt dampen as Wren continues to sob into my chest, bringing me out of my haunting thoughts. After a few moments, Wren pulls away and apologizes for ruining both my shirt and jacket. After all she's been through she's worried about my clothes.

"I can always buy new ones, I tell her softly.

She sniffs, "I ruined your birthday and your clothes." She didn't ruin anything, she did nothing wrong.

"Actually you are the best thing that has happened to me today." My heart stopped when I realized what I just said to her. I can feel my face begin to heat up under her stare. The shocked look on her face tells me it registered.

"How bout we get you checked out?" I gesture towards the flashing lights by the door changing the subject.

She nods her head and stumbles forward slightly. I reach out to hold her steady. She squealed when I decided to pick her up and carry her towards the front door. Her arms wrap around my neck as she leans her head on my cheek.

Her hot breath gives me goosebumps when it touches my skin. The crowd parts for us, letting us through.

"You don't have to carry me." She's right, I don't have to but, I want to. I don't reply and continue to walk towards the door.

We exit the club and I walk straight to the ambulance that's parked close to the sidewalk. Reese approaches us, followed by a few cops. "They need a statement from you, Wren!" She nods her head giving them permission to ask their questions.

Wren finishes giving her statement and the cops leave. Listening to her retell every detail of what happened makes my heart hurt and blood boil at the same time. I'm feeling both guilt and anger. If those girls hadn't been there, Wren wouldn't have left and she would be safe. I don't know why I care so much about someone I barely know and that scares me.
