Chapter fourteen
But in my sleep, I had a nightmare. It was one that I didn't remember when I woke up. I couldn't remember the dream itselfー but I could still feel the ache it left in my heart. When I opened my eyes again it was dark outside, and I assumed it was either late at night or earlier in the morning. I was in the same position as beforeー only as I turned my head to look at my surroundings, I found that there was another head resting flush against my own. I could feel a face buried close against my neck, making me shudder when they let out a soft breath.
It was Soraー I knew in an instant without having to investigate. Somehow, knowing that he was there so close to me made me feel sad inside. After what I'd said to him... What I'd made him see... And he still didn't leave my side.
But at the same time, I didn't regret what Id done. Just thinking back to it all... I felt angry all over again. I scanned his body lying close against me. I was willing to bet that he still hadn't taken it. Upon rolling a little closer to his body, I could feel that it was hotー fever hot.
Sora...
That was enough.
I didn't know how long I'd been out or how bad the condition in my body had become, and I didn't care. I was going to find that cure in this house and I was going to force him to drink it.
Determined, I parted my body from his and sat up. The moment I was upright I felt the ache sharpen and rip into my torso. I had to slap a hand over my mouth to hold in a wince. Taking a deep breath, I pushed my body off the side of the bed, ignoring the screams it gave in protest. It felt like I had just run a mile...
Biting onto my lip just in case, I crept across the room, scanning it, before stepping out into the hall. All the lights were out and I assumed that everyone was asleep.
I clutched at my abdomen to hopefully make at least some of the ache subsideー just enough to keep me from making any sounds as I made my way carefully down the hall.
I checked every room and scanned every counter until finally, I saw a familiar little vile laying on a countertop in the kitchen.
Just as I'd thought ー full.
Swallowing my anger, I tucked the vile safely in my pajama breast pocket and clutched my stomach once more to gingerly make my way back into the bedroom, hoping that Sora was still asleep. I was already beginning to feel the negative toll from moving too muchー I feared that I'd collapse at any moment...
Biting my lip hard enough it was sore, I peeked into the bedroom, where Sora lay. Still asleep... Thank goodness.
However...
I had only made it halfway across the room towards him when I felt something new. Something a million times worse than anything before. The pain was so unbearable that I went crashing to my knees heavily against the floor. I just barely managed to keep in a scream in agony as I coiled in on myself there on the wooden floor.
Sora... Don't wake up... Don't wake up...
It was taking everything in me to hold in the shriek that hung in my lungs, ready to let loose with one wrong move.
Even though I wasn't screaming, my mouth was wide open as if I were, tears streaming down my cheeks. The pain was unlike anything I'd ever experienced before in my life. I writhed, alone, tormented on the bedroom floor.
Help....make it stop....
I knew that even if someone were to wake up and go to me they couldn't help, and that knowledge alone convinced me to remain silent as I twisted on the ground.
It felt like hours, but finally, the pain had ceased, and I panted, still rolled up on the floor and holding myself, trying to regain the energy to stand.
With everything I had left, I forced myself up on all fours and dragged myself to the bed side, pulling myself up enough that I laid close to Sora's sleeping face. I took a moment, then, just to look at him.
Sora's beautiful face.
I pressed my hand softly to his cheek and eyed him for a long moment before reaching for the vile in my pocket with a shaky hand and popping the cork, sighing a little bit in relief that it made no noise. As steadily as possible, I gingerly tilted Sora's head and pressed the vile to his lips. Holding my breath, I tilted the vile and let the liquid empty from the vile. The last drop was emptying when Sora's eyes snapped open and he sat up, coughing.
Caught off guard, I only flinched and instinctively hid the vile behind my back. Having only my upper body laying on the bed, I knew that faking sleep wouldn't work, and so I sat there completely still, looking at him and waiting for what storm was surely about to hit.
