Write about a note, a jewel and a businessman.
Park Chanyeol
Businessman AU
Mr Park stalked across the lobby with one of his hands clutched in a fist.
His long fingers clawed around something that I couldn't quite see from my place behind the counter, but that made me all the more curious. His other arm was busy holding up a red gym bag, more or less of the same fiery color of his ears.
He looked pissed. Scratch that, he looked ready to kill. And as he took a turn and circumnavigated the sofas in the waiting area, I knew that the victim was probably gonna be me.
I gulped down the knot I felt tighten in my throat and straightened my back, putting up that typical smile you would see on any receptionist's face. I had practiced for months to achieve that everlasting peaceful and stress-free look and it looked like it was about to be put to the test by none other than the Chairman's son, in just a few moments.
I felt like I was watching a model walk the runaway in slow-motion. Simply terrific, that's how good looking he was. But it really was a shame, since he had the temper of a bull and seemingly zero compassion.
"Who is in charge of the reception?!" He barked, smashing his fist against the wooden countertop.
A few of the colleagues next to my workstation turned to look at me wide-eyed. I felt myself tremble and struggle to catch my breath, but after calming myself down for an instant, I inhaled deeply and lifted my chin.
My lips twitched as I stretched them further up, in an artificially kind smile.
The chairman's son looked even more enraged than before. His neat and dark eyebrows were pointing down at his big double-lidded eyes.
"Do you need something, Sir?" I asked, joining my hands together and placing them on my lower stomach.
He scoffed and tilted his head to the side, spitting out what sounded like a laugh of mockery. My fingers twinged for a moment, riled up.
"Do I need something? Yes, I do! And that is for my employees to actually do the job they're payed to!".
His shriek caught me off guard by its intensity, and I winced visibly.
Park Chanyeol was known to be often moody and upsetting, but I never thought that one day I was going to be the target of one of his fits.
See, I had been working in Chairman Park's company for almost three years and I had never been told off for not doing my job properly.
On the contrary, I was often praised by my superiors because of my attention to details and professionalism.
To say that his unexplained tantrum had upset me, was an euphemism.
"I'm sorry Sir" I begun, only to be interrupted yet again, by his rough and deep voice.
"You should be! But you apologizing won't change the fact that your lack of competence caused me an extreme inconvenience".
I closed my eyes for a few seconds and reinforced my wavering smile. Doing my job was going to be very hard.
"As I was saying, I am sorry to hear that you've been troubled, but that doesn't change the fact that I don't understand what you want me to do about it. Since I don't really understand what you're talking about" I finished.
I then dug a nail in the back of my hand, as a mean to control my emotion. The job requited quite the poker face ability, but I wasn't perfect at it. Not yet at least.
"What?" He staggered.
I deeply but silently enjoyed seeing the confident look on his devilishly handsome face change into one of pure confusion.
My smile naturally lifted some more and regained liveliness.
"Again, I am sorry Sir. I understand that you feel wronged and are really prone to carelessly let your anger out and create an useless scene, but you should know that a conversation is to be considered successful only if both parties can understand what the matter is".
He bit his bottom lip, now slightly glossy, and released his fist.
"Don't act smart around me, if you want to keep your underpaid job" he almost growled.
Because of the ferocity of his emotions, I had to take my eyes off his face for a few seconds. He knew how to be intimidating.
"Do you recognize these?" He then seethed, pushing what looked like a silver necklace and a crumpled piece of white paper towards me.
I scanned the two items attentively and firmly shook my head.
"I do not" I affirmed and let myself be entertained by his eyes loosing that fierceness which made him popular among the employees. Especially the female ones.
Looking disappointed, he hoisted his gym bag on top of his muscular shoulder and took a step back from the counter.
If I picked up my chin a bit more my head could probably break away from my neck, that's how victorious I was feeling.
I had beaten down the beast everyone's had always despised and not only I was alive, but perfectly fine. I still had my job too!
The Chairman's son harshly bit the inside of his cheek and scanned the surrounding area with somewhat of an evil glint back in his dark brown eyes. Everyone at the reception cringed and went back to its own task, but I kept my gaze fixated on him. I could see way past his tough act now, and that I found utterly humorous.
When he went to leave, I jolted forward and picked up whatever he had left on the counter.
"Aren't you taking these back?".
He stopped for a second and spared me one last harsh look. It felt like he had expected something from me, obviously without receiving it.
His shoulder rose up just once and his broad, suit-covered chest trembled under a deep sigh.
"They're not from you. Therefore, I don't need nor want them".
