Say Goodbye to Your Magic II
*Alex's POV*
I looked around the room, seeing the Doctor and Van Statten freaking out. "The Dalek's a genius. It can calculate a thousand billion combinations in one second flat."
The security guards are standing in front of the door, who are pointing their guns at it. In no time at all, the door opened. "Open fire!" One of the guards screamed and they shoot at the Dalek.
"Don't shoot it, I want it unharmed." Van Statten screamed at his security.
"Are you serious?" I glared at Van Statten, getting more and more pissed off by the second. He tortured the Doctor, got my powers taken, sorta... But then tells his security guards not to shoot the fucking Dalek? Oh you've got to be kidding me.
"What?" Van Statten crossed his arms at me. "I don't want it harmed."
"You're fucking idiot, Van Statten." I spat at him. The Doctor snapped his head, glaring at me. "What? I told you when we were on Platform One I wasn't filtering myself." I crossed my arms at the Doctor.
The Doctor turned his attention back to the monitor, "Rose, get out of there!" I felt my good wand buzzing in my boot. I slowly reached down and clicked the green button, signaling I was okay. I sighed, what the Doctor doesn't know, won't hurt him.
"That's us right below the surface. That's the cage, and that's the Dalek." Goddard pointed to the monitor, I hurried over to see what the fuck was going on.
I turned to her, "this museum of yours, have you got any alien weapons?"
"Lots of them," she frowned, "but the trouble is the Dalek's between us and them." I liked Goddard, I could tell she was a smart woman. This planet needs smart.
"We've got to keep that thing alive." I rolled my eyes at the fat man. "We could just seal the entire vault, trap it down there."
"Leaving everyone trapped with it? Rose is down there. I won't let that happen. Have you got that?" Van Statten sent the Doctor a glare. The Doctor turned to Goddard, "it's got to go through this area. What's that?"
"Weapons testing."
"Give guns to the lawyers, technicians, anyone. Everyone. Only then have you got a chance of killing it." Goddard nodded as the Doctor took her place in front of the computer.
"I thought you were the great expert, Doctor." Van Statten rolled his eyes. "If you're so impressive, then why not just reason with this Dalek? It must be willing to negotiate, there must be something it needs, everything needs something."
"What's the nearest town?" The Doctor turned to face Van Statten.
"Saltlake City."
"Population?"
"One million."
"All dead." I crossed my arms at Van Statten, who turned to face me, "if the Dalek gets out, it'll murder every living creature, that's all it needs."
"But why would it do that?!" Van Statten yelled at me. Watch your damn tone bitch. I don't know who the fuck you think you're talking to but I will rip your rib cage out and wear it as a hat. Do not speak to me in that voice.
The Doctor pulled me into his side, I swear this man knows when I'm about to rip someone's balls off. "Because it honestly believes they should die."
"Human beings are different and anything different is wrong. It's the ultimate in racial cleansing and you, Van Statten, you've let it loose!" I yelled at him. God, I hate idiots. This is exactly why I stay in my room all day. I don't bother anyone, but everyone likes to bother me.
We turned back to the monitor, watching the soldiers get ready for the rolling turd to come. "The Dalek's surrounded by a force field. The bullets are melting before they even hit home but it's not indestructible. If you concentrate your fire, you might get through." The Doctor said to the guard.
"Oh! Aim for the dome, the head, the eyepiece. That's the weak spot." I added pointing to the soldiers. The Doctor sighed. I honestly felt horrible for him.
"Thank you, Doctor, Alex, but I think I know how to fight one single tin robot." One of the soldiers called back to us. I rolled my eyes, typical Humans, thinking they know everything, when in reality, they don't know shit. "Positions!" I watched as Adam and Rose ran right past the camera. "We've got vision."
"It wants us to see." We stared at the monitor. Listening to the soldiers screaming for the last time.
"Perhaps it's time for a new strategy, maybe we should consider abandoning this place." Van Statten actually sounded scared. It's about time this man showed some emotion.
"Except there's no power to the helipad, sir. We can't get out." Goddard glared at him. She shuttered when he sent a glare back. Hm, what's that about?
"You said you could seal the vault." The Doctor pointed to him. But Doctor, Rosie is still down there...
Van Statten hurried to the computer, "it was designed to be a bunker. In the event of nuclear war, steel bulkheads."
"There's not enough power, those bulkheads are massive." Goddard shook her head at us.
"We've got emergency power, we can re-route that to the bulkhead doors." The Doctor beamed at me and I felt sorta proud. I like it when he beams at me.
"We'd have to bypass the security codes, that would take a computer genius!"
"Good thing you've got me, then." Van Statten smiles proudly. Yeah right. You're not a genius, you're an idiot.
"You want to help?" I crossed my arms and raised my eyebrows at him.
"I don't want to die, Alex, simple as that." He growled at me. Eh. You're not very scary Van Statten. "Nobody knows this software better than me."
"Sir." We looked up at the monitor, the Dalek standing in the middle of the open area.
"I shall speak to the Doctor and Alexandra." I swear to god if that thing calls my Alexandra one more time I'm going to burn this place down. The Doctor pulled me with him to the monitor.
"You're gonna get rusty." He said, uneasily, as we watched water pouring over it.
"I fed off the DNA of Rose Tyler." Of course you do. "Extrapolating the biomass of a time traveller regenerated me."
"What's your next trick?"
"I have been searching for the Daleks."
"Yeah, we saw. Downloading the Internet." I shrugged at the monitor. "What did you find?"
"I scanned your satellites and radio telescopes." Yeah man, we're aware. Get to the damn point.
"And?"
"Nothing. Where shall I get my orders now?" The Daleks' voice was rising.
"You're just a soldier without commands." The Doctor spat at it.
"Then I shall follow the primary order, the Dalek instinct to destroy! To conquer!"
"What for? What's the point?" The Doctor yelled at it. The Dalek didn't answer him, so he just continued. "Don't you see? It's all gone. Everything you were, everything you stood for."
"Then what should I do?" It sounded hopeless, somewhat upset? A Dalek can't feel anything but hatred.
"All right then. If you want orders follow this one, kill yourself."
"The Daleks must survive!" It raised its voice again.
"The Daleks have failed. Why don't you finish the job and make the Daleks extinct? Rid the Universe of your filth, why don't you just die?" The Doctor screamed at it. Oh shit. Note to self, don't piss off the Doctor.
"You would make a good Dalek." The screen goes blank and the Doctor continued to stare, completely shocked.
"Seal the vaults." I nodded to Van Statten, I grabbed the Doctor's hand, trying to get his attention. He hurried over to the computer with Van Statten.
"I can leech power off the ground defenses, feed it to the bulkheads. It's been years since I had to work this fast." Van Statten has a huge smile on his face. Bitch what? Why are you smiling, all these people have died. Your soldiers are dead. This isn't a happy time.
"Are you enjoying this?" I scolded at him. He glared at me, but continued to work.
"Doctor, she's still down there." My eyes widened and I took out my phone to call Rose.
"This isn't the best time." Rose was being sassy. Now's not the time for sass, Rosie.
"Where the hell are you?"
"Level forty nine." I could hear her panting.
"You've got to keep moving, the vault's being sealed off, bulkhead level forty six." I watched the Doctor as he was typing faster.
"Can't you or the Doctor stop them closing?" Rose said fully panicked.
"He's the one closing them."
"Can't you beam us into the room?" I bit my lip.
"No. I got my powers taken away." I heard a sharp inhale on her end of the phone. "We can't wait and we can't help you. Now for fucks sake, run." The Doctor glared at me, seriously, we've been over this. Not filtering myself for your ignorance. But is now seriously the time to get pissed off over that?
"Done it. We've got power to the bulkheads." Van Statten breathed out.
"The Dalek's right behind them." Goddard said, staring at the blue dot on the screen.
"We're nearly there, give us two seconds." I crossed my fingers, praying that she makes it.
"Doctor, I can't sustain the power. The whole system is failing." Van Statten looked up at him. "Doctor, you've got to close the bulkheads." The Doctor looked at me and I shrugged. I don't know what to say or do here. I watched as he pressed the enter key.
"I'm sorry." I mumbled into the phone.
"The vault is sealed." Van Statten smiled at us.
"Rose, where are you? Rose, did you make it?" I bit my lip, fearing her answer.
"Sorry, I was a bit slow." My heart dropped. "It wasn't either of your faults. Remember that, okay? It wasn't anyone's fault. And do you know what? I wouldn't have missed it for the world." I felt tears running down my face. "Tell the Doctor I said thank you for showing me the universe. Alex, I know you never really liked me, but I wanted to tell you that you're an amazing Wizard. Tell Mickey and mum I love them." I gulped, I did like Rose. I always have. She might annoy the shit out of me sometimes but that's okay. After she found out I was a Wizard she didn't pry like she used too. She had a special place in my heart.
"Oh my god, Rose no! Run! Just fucking run!" I yelled into the phone.
"Exterminate!" I dropped my phone. She's gone. Another person I love, died because of me.
"I killed her." I mumbled. If I didn't click that stupid button on my wand, I'd still have my powers. I would've been able to save her.
"I'm sorry." Van Statten mumbled.
"Are you though? Are you actually fucking sorry? Or are you just saying that because your only damn living specimen is trapped down there?" I lunged towards Van Statten but the Doctor pulled me away. Let me go, I wanna go all psycho on his ass.
"I said I'd protect her. She was only here because of me and you're sorry?" The Doctor growled at him. "We could've killed that Dalek in its cell. But you stopped us."
"It was the prize of my collection!" Van Statten tried to defend himself. Trust me buddy, that's not going to work.
"Your collection?" I screamed at Van Statten, getting out of the Doctors arms and getting in Van Stattens face. "But was it worth it? Worth all those men's deaths? Worth Rose?" He didn't say anything, just stared at me, wide eyed. "Let me tell you something, Van Statten. Mankind goes into space to explore. To be part of something greater."
"Exactly! I wanted to touch the stars!" Van Statten said smiling.
"You just want to drag the stars down and stick them underground underneath tons of sand and dirt. And label them. You're about as far from the stars as you can get." The Doctor stood next to me. "And you took her down with you. She was nineteen years old." My wand buzzed again, I pushed the green button again. Goddard raised her eyebrows at me and I put my finger on my lip, shushing her.
Adam opened the door to Van Stattens room. "You were quick on your feet, leaving Rose behind." I ran over to him.
"I'm not the one who sealed the vault!" Adam glared at the Doctor.
"Open the bulkhead or Rose Tyler dies." The Doctor and I hurried to the monitor, seeing Rose was still alive.
"You're alive!" The Doctor smiled at the screen.
"Can't get rid of me." Rose shrugged at us. I smiled ear to ear. Thank god.
"Open the bulkhead!" The Dalek screamed at us.
"Don't do it!" Rose yelled at us.
"What use are emotions if you two will not save your best friend?"
"I killed her once. I can't do it again." The Doctor went to the computer, opening the bulkhead.
"What do we do now? You bleeding heart, what the hell do we do?" Van Statten yelled at us. Oh shut up. If the Dalek comes in here you're probably first to die.
"Kill it when it gets here!" Adam threw his arms up. Oh shut up Adam, you can't do shit.
"All the guns are useless, and the alien weapons are in the vault." Goddard shook her head at him.
"Only the catalogued ones." The Doctor and Adam hurried to his shop, leaving me with Van Statten and Goddard.
Van Statten has his back pressed up against the wall. Goddard and I were standing on the other side of the room. "What's your name?"
"Goddard, Diana Goddard." I like that, Diana. That's a pretty name.
"Well Diana, why are you so afraid of Van Statten?" I whispered to her.
"I'm not afraid of him." Goddard stuck her head up, trying to seem stronger.
"You are. Before, you got all nervous when he glared at you." I raised my eyebrows at her.
She shifted awkwardly, "well, when someone doesn't do the job right, he wipes their memory and leaves them in the middle of nowhere. I'm scared that's going to happen to me." I turned my head and squinted at the man, who was too busy in his own thoughts.
"That wouldn't happen. You're brilliant. His team needs you."
Goddard shook her head at me, "doesn't work like that." I felt sorry for her. Who the fuck would want to live their life in fear of this fuck face?
The doors opened and we watched in fear as the Dalek and Rose came into the room. Where the hell is the Doctor? "Don't move!" Rose put her hands up to us. "Don't do anything, it's beginning to question itself."
"Van Statten. You tortured me. Why?" The Dalek got in his face. I grabbed Rose, pulling her into a tight hug. Oh thank god she's okay.
Van Statten tried to move back, but he was already against the wall. "I wanted to help you, I just. I don't know, I-I was just trying to help. I thought if we could get through to you, if we could mend you. I wanted you better, I'm sorry. I'm so sorry! I swear! I just wanted you to talk!"
"Then hear me talk now. Exterminate! Exterminate! Exterminate!" Well if Van Statten's dead, he can't wipe Goddards brain right? No? Sorry not the time.
Rose hurried over to the Dalek. "Don't do it! Don't kill him!" The Dalek spins face to face. "You don't have to do this anymore. There must be something else. Not just killing. What else is there? What'd you want?"
The Dalek turned back to Van Statten and back to Rose. "I want freedom." She left the room with the Dalek, trying to help it. That thing, didn't deserve any help, but whatever.
Security guards filled the room, grabbing Van Statten. I followed Goddard out, nudging her to tell that asshole off. Goddard walked slowly up to Van Statten, "what the hell are you doing?" He screamed at her. Come on Goddard, tell the fucker off.
"Two hundred personnel dead and all because of you." Goddard growled at him. "Take him away, wipe his memory, and leave him by the road someplace."
"You can't do this to me! I am Henry Van Statten!" He tried to get out of the guards arms, but it was no use.
"And by tonight, Henry Van Statten will be a homeless, brainless junkie living on the streets of San Diego, Seattle, Sacramento." Goddard turned to face me with a smirk on her face. "Someplace beginning with 'S'." She walked over to me and I gave her a high five. "Alex Russo, what're you doing after this?"
"Traveling. Wherever the Doctor takes me." I smiled at her.
"Well, if you ever stop, here's my number." Goddard handed me a business card. "If you ever stop traveling, please call me. I'm going back to Torchwood, we could use someone like you." I put her business card in my back pocket.
My smile got bigger, "thanks, Diana."
I hugged her and she pulled away, "better hurry out of here. I'm filling this place with cement. No one will know this place existed."
I hurried off to the Tardis, seeing the Doctor and Rose already there. Rose jumped on me, "where'd you go? We went back to the room and you weren't there?"
"Just helping a friend." I smiled to myself, Diana deserved more than this, and I'm happy she's going to get it.
"I'm sorry about your powers, Alex." Rose gave me a sad smile.
"Don't be." I gave her a toothy grin and she looked at me confused. "You'll understand when we're back on the Tardis." I really hope the Doctor won't be pissed off about that... Whoops.
"We'd better get out. Van Statten's disappeared, they're closing down the base. Goddard said they're going to fill it full of cement! Like it never existed!" I smirked, fuck Van Statten. He's getting what he deserves.
"Thank fuck." I rolled my eyes. The Doctor elbowed me.
"I'll have to go back home." Adam said sadly. Like any of us really care.
"Better hurry up then." The Doctor smiled at Adam. "Next flight to Heathrow leaves at 1500 hours." The Doctor said, looking at his watch.
"Adam was saying that all his life he's wanted to see the stars..." Rose started.
"Tell him to go and stand outside, then." The Doctor shrugged to Rose. I giggled, it's so funny when he's sassy.
Rose gave me a pleading look. She's lucky I like her. "He's all on his own, Doctor. And he did help." I attempted to help Rose out.
"He left Rose down there!" The Doctor rolled his eyes at me.
"So did you!" Rose rolled her eyes back at him.
"What're you talking about? We've got to leave!" Adam chimed in, hold on bud we're tryna help you with that.
I looked up at the Doctor, "I don't think you're going to get anywhere arguing with us."
The Doctor sighed loudly, "girls, he's a bit pretty."
"I hadn't noticed." I smirked at the Doctor, who frowned at me. "I'm kidding." I poked his side.
"On your heads." He pointed at us, opening the Tardis door.
"What're you doing? She said 'cement'. She wasn't joking, we're going to get sealed in." Adam called from outside the Tardis. "Doctor? What're you doing standing inside a box? Rose? Alex?" Adam finally stepped inside and smiled. The Doctor programmed the Tardis, and we were off.
