Russo and Harkness

*Jacks POV*
"Come on, Jack. I told you last time you did this that if you took advantage of you powers and used them for mischief, I was getting you a guardian Wizard." My grandfather shook his head at me.
"I don't want one! I don't need a guardian Wizard! I make perfectly good choices without one!" I tried defending myself. Grandfather gave me a stern look and I knew I had no chance of talking him out of it. It really sucks having your grandfather in charge of Wiztech and on the Wizard Council. I can't do anything fun with magic.
"Come on." He shoved me through someone's portal.
"Professor Crumbs!" A guy with short dark hair smiled at grandfather. "What're you doing here? Is something wrong? Did Alex do something again?" I groaned, this kid seems like such a geek.
"Everything's fine, Justin." He turned to this heavy dude in front of a chalkboard, "I'm sorry for interrupting your lesson, Jerry." The man who I'm assuming is Jerry, nodded and grandfather continued, "Justin, this is my grandson, Jack. I want you to teach him to not rely on magic for everything and to not use it selfishly."
"Wow! This is going to be great!" I rolled my eyes, great. He is a nerd.
"Jack will be staying with you for a month." He turned back to the geek, "when I come back, I want him like you." Thanks. 'I want him like you,' that's never going to happen. Not in this or any other lifetime.
There was a loud yawn behind me. I turned around to see a girl dressed in sweatpants and her hair all messy. "Sorry I'm late, I was too busy sleeping." Her eyes lit up when she saw grandfather, "Professor Crumbs!"
"Hello Alex." Grandfather grabbed my arm and pulled me to him, "and keep Alex far away from Jack." He nodded to Justin. What's wrong with her? Why can't I talk to her?
"Just because you're whispering, doesn't mean I can't hear you." Alex crossed her arms.
"You were supposed to. Jack, I'll see you in a month." Grandfather flashed himself out. I sighed, this is really gonna suck.
"Jack, why did Professor Crumbs make you come here?" Jerry raised an eyebrow at me.
"Well, I was at Wiztech and I turned one of my professors into a dog. According to grandfather, that was the last straw." Alex burst out laughing, getting glares from Justin and Jerry.
"Your grandfather is Professor Crumbs?" Alex raised her eyebrows at me. I sighed and nodded. "That must suck." She scrunched up her face in disgust.
"Believe me, it does." Can't pick who your family is. I held my hand out, "Jack Harkness."
She raised her eyebrows at me, staring at my hand, "Alex Russo." She slapped my hand instead of shaking it. I laughed at her, my kinda girl.
"And with that being said," Jerry scratched the back of his head, "Alex, don't go near Jack." Jerry pointed to her, who just shrugged and sat down on the couch. They have a nice lair, not as cool as mine, but still nice.
"Jack, I'm Jerry, my wife Teresa is working the sub station, Justin's your mentor as you know, and that's Max. You already met Alex, the one you're going to stay far away from." He pointed to everyone. Simple names, that's good. I nodded and waved at them. What's wrong with that girl though? Why can't I talk to her? She seems like the most normal Wizard in here. "Class dismissed. Justin, you should show Jack around Waverly Place, let him get a feel for New York." Justin nodded and Jerry pushed Max out of the lair.
"I'm so sorry." I turned around at Alex, who was shaking her head at me, "you're gonna be bored out of your mind with a mentor and tour guide like him." She pointed to Justin.
"I can tell." I nodded back at Alex.
"Alex! You're just mad that Crumbs wants me to mentor him and not you." Justin got in Alexs face.
"I'm not mad at all," Alex smirked back at him, "I'm just excited to watch this kid suffer for a whole month listening to you rant about how he needs to change his actions." She stood up and walked over to me, putting her hand on my shoulder, "good luck pal." She walked out of the lair, while Justin gave her a glare. This is going to be a long month isn't it?
Justin sighed, "come on, I'll show you around." I followed him out of the lair, into a restaurant? Their lair is connected to a restaurant? Why? Don't the workers try and go into the lair? "Family owned business." Justin nodded to me. Ah, makes sense.
"Guys! If you put cereal on hotdogs it counts as breakfast!" Alex held up her hotdog with mustard on her cheek.
I burst out laughing, "that's brilliant." I walked over to Alex, taking the hotdog out of her hands and tried a bite of it. "It tastes good too!" I laughed at her. Something told me I was going to like this girl.
"Let's go Jack, no need to talk to this delinquent." Justin put his hands on my shoulders, pushing my towards the door. Delinquent? Alex didn't seem like a delinquent.
We walked into some stupid comic store. This kid is such a damn nerd. Justin was looking around for me, trying to show me these stupid action figures, but I hid behind a bookcase. "Come on!" I felt a tug on my arm, I turned around and saw Alex.
"What're you doing here?" I ducked down behind a shelf so Justin wouldn't see.
"Saving your ass. What does it look like I'm doing?" Alex rolled her eyes at me, "come on, before he comes over here and sees you." She pulled me out of the store.
"Thanks." I laughed at her as we left the store.
Wherever we were going I was pretty quiet, Alex was just preparing me for Justin. I noticed we were back at the sub station. I followed her upstairs, "this is our house. Pretty screwed up shit happens here. Come on!" Alex pulled me out to the terrace. She shoved a bucket into my arms.
I sat down, looking inside the bucket. "Water balloons?"
"Ah. So you've heard them." Alex nodded at me. Of course I've heard of them! I don't live under a rock. "Here's, how I use them." She pulled me to the edge of the terrace. "Alright, victim in sight andddd bombs away!" Alex pulled me down, "hide!" We jumped back up, looking down at the pissed off person walking away, "okay your turn!"
I gave her a puzzled look, "here, I'll show you how to do it." She grabbed the water balloon and put it in my hand, holding it over the terrace.
"What do I do now?" I raised an eyebrow at her.
"Just, drop it." She shrugged.
I watched as it splat down on someone's head. "Hey I see you two up there! Russo!" Alex and I laughed at the pissed off lady. I like that. 'Russo'. That suits her.
"Alex! I should've known you were behind this." Justin came storming onto the terrace, "Crumbs said to stay away from him."
"Figured I should save him from your boring comic store." She crossed her arms and laughed at Justin.
"Come on ,Jack." Justin motioned for me to follow him. But I didn't move. "Jack?"
"I don't want to go. I'm having fun out here." I shrugged to Justin. I was, Alex is my kind of devious Wizard.
"Well your grandfather gave me instructions to not let you be around Alex, so I'm following his orders." He motioned for me to follow him again and I sighed. Seriously grandfather? You had to send me to the biggest nerd on the planet?
Justin pulled me into his room, giving me a lecture about how I shouldn't be friends with Alex. I got so damn bored I fell asleep. I woke up to Justin poking me, "come on, dinner." We walked downstairs and I sat down next to Alex, getting a glare from Justin.
"Jack, since you'll be staying here for a month, we thought it would be a good idea to set you up in Justin's school. So then you'll be forced to not use your powers for eight hours a day." I bit my lip, great. Now I have to go to school with this kid?
"I feel so bad for Jack." Alex put her hand on my shoulder, "he's forced to be with Justin all the time and now he has to go to school with him? This kid will never get a break from Justin. This poor guy." I snickered, agreeing with her.
"Shut up, Alex." Justin rolled his eyes at her. Buddy, she's not wrong, you're annoying. I don't want to spend 24/7 hours with you. "He'd rather hang out with me than an idiot like you!"
I shook my head, "that's not true."
"Yeah!" Alex agreed, "we actually have a lot in common! We even have the same birthday!" Alex and I both laughed, but her parents were giving each other looks. Is it something we said?
After dinner, Justin's mom set up the couch. They felt bad because they didn't have a room for me, not that I cared. As long as I wasn't sleeping in Justin's room, that's all that mattered.
I laid down, staring at their ceiling. How can these people go so long without using any magic? I use magic almost every hour of everyday. These Russos don't. It's weird. I want to go home, I hate it here. I sat up, hearing someone going to the fridge. "Whatcha doin, Russo?"
Alex turned around, continuing to chug the milk, "drinking, what does it look like I'm doing?" I laughed at her and laid back down. "Why're you still up?"
"Can't sleep." I shrugged.
"Why not? The couch is the best place to sleep." Alex laughed at me.
"I don't know, just not tired." I bit my lip. No, I just want to go home.
"You wanna go home, don't you?" I looked up, seeing Alex standing over me. I nodded at her. Alex motioned for me to move my legs and sat down on the couch next to me. "Well, I'll try and make this month good for you."
"Yeah? How?" I raised my eyebrows at her.
"I'll just follow you and Justin around, save your ass when he gets to be too much. Plus, you're in my grade, you'll be with me most of the day at school." Alex laughed at me. "Sound like a plan?"
"Sounds like a plan." I nodded back to her.
She pushed my head into the pillow, "get some sleep. You'll need all the sleep you can get for when you meet Harper."
"Night Russo." I said, hearing her walk up the steps.
*
The past month wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I did learn some things from Justin, surprisingly. Alex kept her word and followed me and Justin around, saving me from his boringness. Believe it or not, their 'normal' school was actually pretty fun. I had most classes with Alex, except geometry. Can't help I'm a genius. But Alex and I were getting in trouble almost everyday. Yesterday, we drank chugged an entire beaker of hydrochloric acid in chemistry. We turned green!
Every night Alex would come downstairs, chugging the milk and we'd have a chat. Sometimes about horrible spells we've done to our families or just talking about life. It was pretty nice. I've grown quite close to Alex, even though grandfather told me not to. She was actually one of my best friends. Even though she can be crazy at times, she gave pretty good advice.
It's my last day with the Russos. This month went by pretty fast. Russo and I were in art class. I just kinda sat here and didn't do anything. What? I'm not an artist! I was watching Alex paint and she's actually pretty good.
"Sorry. I think you dropped this." I looked over and saw a boy handing her a paintbrush.
"Oh no, that's not mine." Russo shook her head at him, turning back to her painting.
"I know, I just needed an excuse to come and talk to you." Russo turned back around and took the paint brush from his hands. My mouth dropped and I ran my hand through my hair. He's flirting with her! "It's quite lovely, what you're working on there." The guy motioned to the her painting.
"So, new British guy, how close are the countries British and England?" I bit my lip to keep from laughing. Come on, Russo! Flirt back with him! Stop being a sarcastic asshole... Or at least be polite and say thank you! He's pretty cute, if she doesn't take him, I will.
Cute boy raised his eyebrows at her, "they're the same countries, kind of. And it's Britain not British."
"I know! I just think it's hilarious when people try to explain ridiculous things." I bit my tongue, only Russo. It was pretty hilarious listening to him try and explain that though, I'll give her that.
"Thank you. My name's Mason Greybeck." That sounds like the name of a TV show host to me.
"Mason Greybeck, that sounds like the name of a game show host." I shook my head, great minds think alike. "Like Mason Greybeck, I'll take Britain's for a thousand please."
He laughed at her, "and your question is, I think you're cute, what do you think of me?" Oh my god! Alex come on, flirt back. This is the perfect opportunity!
Alex made a buzzing noise, "we're out of time." RUSSO. I shook my head at myself, trying to think of a way to get her to flirt back with him. I chewed my lip as I tuned back into their conversation, did Alex really just make him say 'kitty cats?'
"How would you feel if maybe going for some tea later? Then you can make me say all kinds of things that make you laugh." I jumped to my feet, knowing Alex would screw this up.
I put my arm around her, "she'd love too!" I smiled at Mason, who gave me a weird look.
"No, I wouldn't." Russo mumbled to me, pinching my arm. Girl, you're gonna thank me later.
"You can come over! How does four o'clock sound? Good? Great." I pushed Russo out of the class as the bell rang. Perfect timing!
"What the hell was that for?" Russo crossed her arms at me.
"I'm setting you up. You think he's cute, don't you?" She bit her lip, staring at the floor, "well this is me saying thank you for saving my ass from Justin all those times. You just got a date with a cute British guy."
"But you're leaving in like twenty minutes! I'm gonna need you help me prepare for this 'date'!" Russo whined at me.
"You're a big girl, you can handle it." I pulled her out the school doors and started to head back to the sub station.
Alex and I walked into the lair, "I'm gonna miss you, Russo."
She rolled her eyes at me, "everyone does." Russo smirked, "but I'll miss you too."
I gave her a tight hug, "you better call me and tell me how your date went." She nodded and I walked through the portal, heading to my grandfathers home. I sighed, not wanting to leave. I liked staying with the Russos. Yeah, Justin was an annoying nerd but Alex made it worth it with her snarky comments on everything he does. I debated on turning around and going back to Russos house, but I knew grandfather would have me. I was going to miss my partner in crime.
