I Missed You
*The Doctors POV*
I woke up with my head in Alex's hand, still waiting for her to wake up. It's been two weeks since Rose brought her father back to life, since Alex died and regenerated. Justin was still here. We would take shifts, while one of us stayed with Alex, the other would cook, shower, or sleep. I tried to fight Justin against me sleeping, I don't really need sleep, but he didn't buy it.
"Here you go." I picked my head up and smiled at Justin as he passed me some tea.
"Thank you." I nodded to him, taking a couple sips and placing it on the table next to Alexs bed. Justin sat down in a chair in the corner of the room, pulling his knees into his chest and closed his eyes. Justin needed sleep, he was sleeping less than I was.
We both decided not to say anything to their parents. When Alex wakes up, it would cause more stress for her. We wanted her to feel comfortable and not have to deal with the hassle of them being here.
I haven't seen Rose since she tried to come in the room when Crumbs was still here. She was still locked in her bedroom. I honestly didn't know what to do with Rose. She used me for my time machine, then almost killed Alex. I could feel my blood boiling just thinking about it. But it was up to Alex. Justin and Crumbs want to take Rose to court, to stand trial for what she's done. I don't know if I agree with that. Like Crumbs said, Humans are stupid, they have no idea how anything works. Rose didn't know that she would kill Alex or cause a paradox. But, I don't know if I could ever forgive her. Roses actions were incredibly selfish. I bit my lip, I didn't think I'd ever find someone who would be able to forgive me for what I did to my people or as brilliant as Alex is. I needed someone who is just as mad as I am and Rose almost took that away from me. Alex was right, I was lonely. But I'm not anymore, as long as I have her.
I rubbed my thumb over Alexs knuckles, tightening my grip on her hand. My eyes widened as I saw Alexs other hand moving. She touched each finger to her thumb and slowly started to move her feet. Her hand slowly moved over to me, putting her hand on my cheek. I smiled into her touch, "hi sweetheart. How're you feeling?" I tried to talk calmly, I didn't want to scare her. After all, Alex was asleep for two weeks, she's probably sensitive to light and sound. She didn't answer, just continued to rub her thumb along my face. Alexs smile kept getting bigger and bigger, I couldn't help but chuckle at her. Alex sat up, leaning forward and hugging me. "I missed you too love." I hugged her back, careful not to hug her to tight. I went to pull away but she held onto me tighter. I smiled into her shoulder, my sweetheart's back.
Alex eventually let go, looking around the room. I think her eyes are bothering her, she keeps squinting and blinking more than normal. Alex smiled when she saw Justin still sleeping, "he hasn't left since you went into the coma. He's been here the whole time." Alex turned back to me and smiled, then back at Justin. She looked on the table next to me, slowly picking up my tea and chugged it, "yes sweetheart, you can have my tea." I chuckled at her.
Alex put the mug down and scoot over, patting the spot next to her. I sat down next to her in the tiny hospital bed, wrapping my arms around her and pulling her into me. Alex grabbed my hand and put her hand against mine, staring at them. "You have big hands." She giggled at me. Okay Alex, the first words you've said to me in two weeks, 'you have big hands'. I chuckled a bit, watching her trace the creases in my hand. Alex intertwined our fingers, giving mine a squeeze. She nuzzled into my chest, I missed holding her. "You smell good." I chuckled again and kissed her forehead, why is she so giggly? Alex took her hand out of mine, running it over my chopped hair and giggled again. "I missed you." Alex snuggled in closer to me, I rested my cheek on top of her head.
"I miss you too, Alex." She didn't say anything else, just continued to lay with me. I missed this. I missed Alex. I didn't want anything like this to ever happen again. It won't ever happen again, I won't let it. Maybe I should kick Rose off the Tardis...
I felt Alex relaxing into my arms. I looked down and saw she was asleep again. I tightened my arms around her, like she was going to slip away at any second. "How's she doing?" I looked over at Justin, who was rubbing his eyes.
"She woke up for a bit before, then went back to sleep." I ran my fingers through her hair.
"She did?" Justin sprang out from his chair, racing over to us. "Alex?" He poked her arm continuously. She groaned, not opening her eyes, "Alex?" He repeated again.
"Five more minutes." Alex groaned, nuzzling more into my chest.
"Sweetheart, you've been asleep for two weeks." I chuckled at her.
"So? I'm still tired." Justin and I burst out laughing, same old Alex. She opened her eyes and smiled at Justin, "what's up egg head?" Alex sat up.
"Oh my god, you're okay. We were so worried about you." Justin hugged her tight, smiling into her shoulder. "Do you remember anything?"
"I remember all of it." Alex nodded to us. "I heard what you said to Rose." Alex glared at Justin.
Justin scratched the back of his neck awkwardly, "oh."
"That wasn't cool Justin, she didn't know any of this would happen."
"But Rose killed you! She literally killed you!" Justin shook his head. "I want to take her Wizard Court."
"But she didn't know! That's not fair Justin." Alex stared at him in disbelief.
"Rose killed you Alex! I don't think you're looking at the big picture here." Justin's got a point. Alex isn't looking at the bigger picture. She shouldn't forgive someone who killed her! I wouldn't.
"I am. You can't hold her to something if she didn't know." Alex shook her head at him. "Neither can you." She turned and glared at me. Oi! I didn't say I wanted to take her to court, yell at him not me. She rubbed her hand against the Tardis' wall, "girl unlock her door."
"No don't unlock her door." Justin said to the Tardis. "Alex, you need to open up your eyes. What Rose did is unforgivable." Justin continued to press. You know what? I agree with him. Take Rose to court.
Alex moved to the edge of the bed, slowly standing up, "you two can hold a grudge against her, but I'm not. She deserves a second chance." Alex held onto the wall, slowly leaving the room.
"I will hold a grudge against her!" Justin pulled Alex back into the room. I laughed at him, shaking my head, how can Alex forgive someone who destroyed her? "Sit down. I want to check your vitals." Alex sat down, with a miserable look on her face. I could tell she just wanted to move around, she was laying down for two weeks straight, her muscles are probably aching from lack of movement. Justin checked her blood pressure and her temperature, both were normal. Thank god. "Look into the light." Justin flashed a light into her eyes, making her swat it out of his hands. "Alex!"
"What? That shit hurt." Alex covered her eyes with her hands, rubbing them.
Justin crouched down, looking at Alexs eyes, "your pupils are dilated. Should go back to normal soon."
Alex turned to Justin, "how did you know something was wrong?" He raised an eyebrow at her, "when all that stuff happened at the church, how did you know?"
Justin nodded, "had a gut feeling something was wrong. I tried calling but you didn't answer, so I looked at your wand GPS and flashed myself to you." Alex nodded and went to leave the room but Justin stood in front of her again, "Crumbs said you'd be experiencing new powers. Do you feel any different?"
"How should I know if I feel any different from 'new powers'? Leave me alone I just woke up, geek." Alex rolled her eyes at him.
"Fine. Go eat, you're going to need your energy. We're going to the field, so suit up." Justin walked out of the medic room. Why are we going to a field?
"And you let him stay why?" Alex crossed her arms at me. I wrapped my arms around her waist, planting a kiss on her forehead. I grabbed her hand, leading her to the kitchen. Alex walked over to the fridge, getting some bread, milk, and eggs. I sat down in a chair, knowing she wouldn't let me help her. Alex put two slices of french toast on a plate for me, two on a plate for her, and another two on another plate.
"Are those for Justin?" I tilted my head staring at the plate next to her. I cut into a piece of my breakfast.
"No. They're for Rose." I put my fork down and stared at Alex. You have got to be kidding.
I pulled the plate away from Alex, "Alex, she literally killed you."
"So?" She crossed her arms at me, "everyone messes up sometime or another, Doctor. You're talking to the queen of fuck ups." Alex shook her head at me, "I forgave her, why can't you?"
Alex, love, she killed you, I don't think you understand how hurt Justin and I were when you died. I put another piece of french toast in my mouth. "Fine. I'll take the french toast to her though." Alex shook her head at me, but didn't say anything. She finished eating and left the kitchen. I sighed. I didn't want to stress her out over Rose, honest. I just don't think Alex being around Rose is a good thing right now. I know Alex has messed up a lot, but she's never accidentally killed someone.
I cleaned up mine and Alexs places. I stared at Roses plate, she'll know Alex cooked this. Which means, Rose will know Alex is awake and be begging to see her. Not happening. I picked up Roses plate and headed over to the garbage can. The plate was grabbed out of my hands, "seriously?" Alex raised her eyebrows at me. She shook her head and left the kitchen, heading in the direction of Roses room. Great. I'm really just screwing up today.
I decided to follow Alex. I stayed behind the corner of the hallway, listening to their conversation. "Rose, I'm not mad at you."
"It sure feels like you are." Rose snapped back. I rolled my eyes, this is exactly why I didn't want Alex talking to Rose.
"It's not me. It's the Doctor and Justin, they're taking this to a whole other level." I rolled my eyes, don't understand why you're not Alex.
"I'm sorry Alex, I didn't mean for any of this to happen." Roses voice sounded shaky.
"I know. It's alright, Rose."
"Can I come out now?" Rose pleaded. No, you're not coming out until I figure out how the hell I feel about you still being around Alex.
"Girl? Can you please unlock Roses door?" I shook my head, knowing the Tardis wasn't going to. She was just as upset with Rose as Justin and I were. I heard Alex sighing, "Rose, I'm sorry."
"I know. I'm sorry too." Alex got up and headed in my direction. I went into a closet, closing the door gently. I heard Alexs footsteps stop in front of the door. "I thought of all people you would've understood about second chances, Doctor." I leaned my head against the door, today is just not my day. Justin and I were worried her parents were going to cause Alex stress, but it's actually me.
I walked back to the console, seeing Justin sitting in the jump seat, "how's she doing?" I didn't say anything, just messed around with some of the controls. "Doctor, don't worry so much about Rose. Alex will get over it." I nodded at him, I hope so. Alex joined us a few minutes later, wearing a purple and black track suit. "You ready?" Justin looked up at her, Alex just nodded back, biting her lip. "Hope you don't mind, but I invited Professor Crumbs, he did save you and all." Alex nodded again.
Justin waved his wand around, transporting us to the field. I looked around, seeing Professor Crumbs. "Alex!" Alex ran over and gave him a tight hug. "Good to see you on your feet again."
"Thank you." Alex leaned her head on Professors shoulder.
"You're very welcome my dear." He kissed her forehead.
"Professor Crumbs, do you know what new powers Alex has now?" Justin steppes forward, staring at Alex.
"No I do not." Crumbs shrugged, "it was different for me and my father. It can range anywhere from super strength to being able to shape shift."
Justin nodded, turning at Alex, "alright Alex. We're gonna run some tests and see what the hell happens. Gimmie your wand." Alex scrunched up her face, "we need to make sure it's a new power, not a spell." Alex handed Justin her wand and stepped back a bit from us, "and try not to use magic." Justin scolded at her. He's really taking this to another level. "Alright Alex, put out the fire." Justin started a fire at Alexs feet.
She raised her eyebrows at Justin, spit into the tiny flame and smushed it with her boot. Crumbs and I burst out laughing, only Alex. "Alex." Justin rolled his eyes are her. "Are you actually ready this time?"
"I guess." I saw Alex throw her hands up. Justin pointed his wand at Alex, wrapping chains around her.
"Get yourself out." Justin shrugged. Alex smirked and the chains disappeared, "Alex, I told you don't use magic." He scolded at her. "45,621 times 97?"
"I don't know!" Alex shook her head at him.
"Definitely not brains." The three of us laughed at Justin's joke, as Alex glared at him. Alex rolled her eyes back at Justin. He showed her away and Alex started walking towards the middle of the field.
Justin started a fire surrounding Alex. "Justin!" Alexs voice sounded full of panic.
"Bit of karma for laughing at my fire before." Justin smirked at Alex. We watched as Alex tried using hand motions to stop the fire.
The fire started to grow, closing in on Alex. "Justin, don't you think you're being too hard on her?" Crumbs put a hand on Justin's shoulder.
"Nah. She's fine." I stared at Justin in shock. Is this what Wizard training is like? "Alex can handle it."
"Justin!" Alex yelled again.
"Justin it's gone far enough." Crumbs flashing Alex back to us. "She's not ready." I crouched down to Alex, patting her back. She couldn't stop coughing, I looked up and Justin and glared at him, while he gave Alex a sorry look.
"Ow." Alex showed me her arm, letting me examine it. She got burned by the fire.
"That's enough for today." I huffed at Justin.
"She was doing fine." Justin shrugged.
" 'Fine'?"Alex mocked him. "Are you kidding me? I'm literally coughing up a fucking lung, got my arm burned by your damn fire, and you think I was doing fine?" Alex yelled at him. She got up, storming towards him, he walked backwards, letting Alex chase him.
Alex began tossing boulders at Justin, "Alex that's enough." I yelled at her, but she didn't stop.
I went to run after her, but Crumbs put a hand on my chest stopping me. "Look at her." I stared at Alex, not understanding what he meant. She's still chucking boulders at Justin. I turned back to Crumbs, with a puzzled look. He laughed at me, "Doctor, look at her." I turned back, tilting my head at the scene. I smiled, Alex wasn't picking up the boulders or using her wand. She did it. She found a new power.
Alex continued to chase Justin back to us. I ran over, scooping her up and spinning her around, "you did it, Alex!" I put her down as I kissed her.
"What did I do?" Alex raised an eyebrow at me.
"You found a new power! You're telepathic!" I kissed her cheek.
"The fuck does telepathic mean?" Alex scrunched up her face.
I rolled my eyes at her, seriously? In front of Professor Crumbs? "You can move things with your mind. Throw another boulder at Justin." I nodded to Alex.
"Seriously?" Justin threw his arms up at me. I rolled my eyes at Justin. He was so desperate to find Alexs new powers that he trapped her in a fire that she couldn't escape from.
"Alex, stay focused on the boulder and what you want it to do." I put my hand on her shoulder. Alex stared at the boulder, she squinted her eyes at it, I smirked, watching it levitate and fire at Justin. "You did it, sweetheart!" I pulled her to my chest, she smiled up at me.
"That's not all she did." We turned back to Professor Crumbs. "Alex, how's your arm?" Crumbs stared at it. Alex and I looked down at it, seeing it was completely healed. I turned her arm over, not seeing any burn marks whatsoever. "And she's not within the first fifteen hours of the regeneration cycle anymore." I smirked, my powerful Alex. "Invulnerability." Crumbs smiled at her. Wow.
"Told you guys she could handle it." Justin shrugged at us. I rolled my eyes at him again.
"Alex, I think that's enough training for one day." Crumbs nodded to her, "don't go crazy with your new powers, Alex. You're not use to them yet, they're more powerful than you think." Crumbs scolded at her. Alex nodded at him and he turned to me, "make sure she doesn't go overboard, Doctor."
I pulled Alex close to me, "I won't." I reassured him.
"Alex, I'm sorry." Justin handed her back her wand. "I didn't mean to go all out on you, just didn't want you to go home unhappy that you couldn't do any new powers." Justin hugged her. I understood where he was coming from, I'm just happy Alex was able to heal herself. "I'm glad you're alright, Lexie."
"Oh shut the hell up." Alex rolled her eyes at him.
"I'll call to check up on you." Justin pointed to Alex. "Let me know if she gets anymore powers. Thank you." Justin nodded to me and flashed himself out. Alex grabbed my hand, flashing us back to the Tardis.
"You were great today." I smiled at Alex as she sat down in the jump seat. She smiled at me, bringing her knees up to her chest. I programmed the Tardis to hoover around in space. I turned around and saw Alex was gone. She gets sneakier and sneakier by the day, I swear.
I walked into the library, looking at her empty spot on the couch. She's always in here, this is basically her room. She'd rather sleep in here than her own bed. I knocked on her bedroom door, no one answered so I went inside. I saw Alex with her back towards me in her bed, in a fetal position. I took off my shoes and jacket, climbing into bed next to her, and then spooning her. "Alex? What's wrong?" Alex turned over, laying on her side. Her eyes were red and puffy. No. Today's her first day that she's been awake in two weeks, I wanted Alex to have a good day. I cupped her cheeks in my hands, drying them with my thumbs. She nuzzled into them and I gave her a sad smile.
"I just really missed you." Alex whispered to me.
I smiled and kissed her forehead, "I missed you too, sweetheart." Alex instantly burst into tears. "Alex, love, what's wrong?" I pulled her into my chest.
"I just wanted you there." Alex continued to cry.
"Love, I was with you all the time. I barely left the medic room." I shook my head at Alex.
"But I felt like you weren't. I've never felt so alone." Alex shook her head at me, "I was so scared when I was in the coma. I was in a constant battle with myself and all I wanted was you." Alex continued to cry. I tightened my arms around her, feeling her shaking.
"Alex, sweetheart, it's okay. It's over. You're never going to have to go through that again." I shook my head at her. "You're not fighting with yourself anymore. I'm here now. You're no longer in the coma." I rocked her slowly back and forth, "it's okay." I kept cooing to her. I continued holding Alex tightly in my arms, running my hand through her hair.
Alex snuggled into my chest more, clinging to me, "stay?"
I rested my cheek on top of her head, nodding, "I'm not going anywhere, love." Alex was holding onto my shirt tightly as she continued to cling to me. I kissed her hair, still whispering that everything was okay now to try and soothe her.
It took awhile for Alex to fall asleep. But, she relaxed and fell asleep in my arms. I tucked her hair behind her ears and made sure her whole body was covered by the blanket. I rested my chin on her head, keeping my arms tightly around her. I kissed her hair, trying to keep her relaxed. She'd twitch every once in a while, but she didn't wake up. I continued to rock back and forth slowly. What kind of coma was she in? When I was in a healing coma I didn't have to fight myself. Unless it's because she had the vortex forced back in her? I actually don't know. I'll ask Justin next time I see him.
Alex pulled herself out of my arms, sitting up, and holding her head. "Sweetheart?" She turned around, shaking her head at me. "What happened?" I sat up, tucking her hair behind her ear.
"Had a strange dream." Alex scrunched up her face, "we were in London, during World War Two and there was this weird fucking kid." I rolled my eyes. "He was wearing a gas mask and was oddly powerful." She shook her head at me. "We were corned in his bedroom. I don't know what happened next, I woke up."
"Alex, why would we be in London during World War Two?" I would never take Alex somewhere that dangerous.
"I don't remember why we were there." Alex shrugged at me, "it was just really weird."
"Are you okay though?" I laid back down, running my hands through her hair.
Alex laid down with me, putting her head back on my chest, and looked up at me, "yeah, it was just really damn weird." I kissed her forehead as she got comfortable next to me.
I stayed up a while longer, making sure she slept okay. What the hell was that dream though? I wouldn't take Alex there. I feel like it would be more sad than adventurous. I sighed, I hated that Alex had to go through this. I hated that Rose was the cause of it. I rested my cheek on top of her head. I probably should sleep, my sleep schedule is seriously bad, even for a Time Lord. I closed my eyes, forcing myself to go to sleep.
