Juliet had been explaining to me why she felt marriage was a poor substitute for the bond that my kind shared when we took a mate, when a realization had come to me suddenly: Juliet was an energy vampire! While Juliet had originally been a human, her maker had been an incubus before he was bitten by that bloodsucking vampire. To make a seed was a process that involved energy!

I started getting more and more hopeful and excited as my mind raced ahead. Juliet wasn't a succubus, but perhaps she could be mated to Andy as well, why not? She could manipulate energy, though very differently. If she could make a seed correctly, offer it to Andy, and accept his in turn, if he was able to learn to make one, would it not work?

I felt a small stirring of hope I wouldn't dare to acknowledge. Perhaps, if Juliet could share the same bond with Andy, if they could be mated as my kind were... Would she permit me to be involved in Andy's life? I ran out of the bathroom, I had to ask Sebastian! He had to know something!

I sped into the living room, only to find both cats sitting in the corner, rather aloof. Penemue and Sebastian, oddly, were sitting next to each other on the couch, and exchanged worried glances. I wondered what could possibly have caused them to have such a sudden change of heart?
