In a way, I felt like a traitor.

It has been some time since I discovered I was Galra. Talking to my closest friend Allura almost felt painful. Every time I approach her, she acts as if I am a felon. I grew up my whole life believing that the Galra were one thing and one thing only—malevolent beasts with no feeling whatsoever.

It's easier to believe the tales when you're not associated with it.

Waking up to the familiar ring of my alarm, I got out of bed.

Oi, my hair. . .

Before I sat my feet on the shaggy carpet, I pulled a pistol from underneath my pillow and shot the alarm clock with no hesitation. I know that my brother gifted this weapon to me for serious cases only, but how can one resist? Anyway, I did my morning routine. Brushed my teeth, fixed my hair, and changed out of my pajamas. Ah, much better.

Heading downstairs to the dining room, I was suddenly stopped by my darling love—Lance McClain—or as I call him, Lance McPain in the Neck. Though he didn't appreciate that nickname too much.

"Hey there, good-lookin', what's cookin'?" he asked me in a flirtatious tone. Dear me.

"You smell like trash; may I take you out?" I replied to him with a confident smile.

". . .We'll work on it," Lance responded with an awkward smile.

"Whaaat!? I spent all night thinking of lines to say to you! That's the best I could come up with."

"Aw, you were losing sleep over me~?"

I quipped, "nah, I only thought about it for two minutes."

"All night, huh?"

"I fall asleep pretty fast!" Crossing my arms, I stuck my tongue out at him.

He let out a snicker—before putting his arm around me. I contently closed my eyes and let out a sigh. He then pulled away.

"Breakfast is up. We can't have them worrying! Come on!" he rushed over to the elevator, I followed behind. Once we got in, I made sure to remind him.

"Now, Lance. Remember. We can't let them know we're dating. So, no holding hands, hugging, caressing, NO FORM OF PHYSICAL CONTACT," pausing for a second, I continued. "But be sure to flirt with me a little bit, we can't have it be TOO obvious."

"I'm chill, (Y/N). Don't doubt me."

Ah, yes. These words coming from Lance. How convincing.

I tilted my head. "Hm."

Without warning, the elevator door slid open. Lance and I untangled our hands from each other before scooting away in the opposite direction. I looked up to see my older brother, Keith. He had his head angled down—as always. He slowly marched in between us.

"Good morning, (Y/N)," he told me with half a smile. ". . .Lance."

"Hey there. How much of a tub of hair gel did you use today?" Lance asked.

"Less than the amount of makeup your mom slaps on with that PUTTY KNIFE—" Keith snapped. I only held him back.

"Now, that's just low, mullet," Lance growled. I saw him pulling the hem of his sleeves up. I stepped in between them.

"Woah, woah. Don't get in a fight. It's only seven in the morning! Last time it was before lunch, but it's not gonna be before breakfast."

Keith and Lance shot one last glare at each other before backing down. I let out a sigh of relief. Finally, the elevator came down to the ground floor. I escaped the tiny shaft and sat myself down at the dining table. There, I saw the rest of my friends. Though Allura had yet to arrive. Hunk placed a steaming dish of delicacies in front of me.

"Enjoy!" he beamed. I nodded and began to dig in.

"Ah, Hunk. Your cuisine never ceases to amaze me!"

"Hehe, thank you!" he kindly smiled at me.

I was halfway through with my meal. One of the doors opened up, revealing Allura. I saw her—ready to smile and frantically wave. But that action was stopped as soon as I saw the cold expression on her face. I felt intimidated. I glimpsed over at Keith, only to see him looking down at his food—avoiding eye contact.

Allura exhaled. "Good morning, everyone."

"Sup!" Hunk greeted with his mouth still full. Pidge only waved. I was afraid that everyone would be suspicious since Lance wasn't hitting on her.

Still, it hurt. Having your best friend see you in a totally new light. . .a negative one to be exact. I know that most Galra are bad, but it didn't mean that Keith and I were. It was hard to continue with my food, since I felt so choked up over the situation. I had to fight the urge to just cry. However, I managed to keep my composure.

Allura refrained from looking at us the whole time she ate. It was quite awkward. Even our friends could see it. So, Lance—being the guy he is—cracked an irrelevant joke.

"I know it's cheesy. But I feel grate," he quoted with finger guns.

Everyone looked at him blankly.

Pidge questioned, "tell me again, how did you make it to high school?"

Her retort caused a titter among the group. At least it wasn't too uncomfortable after that. It felt like hours before I could just get up and leave. Once breakfast was done, we all separated and did our own thing. Hunk stayed in the kitchen, Pidge in the lab, and my brother—well, he was most likely jamming out to My Chemical Romance.

Currently, I was in my room. Mainly just thinking. I still couldn't wrap my head around the fact that I was an alien. I mean—technically, everyone is an alien, I guess. But my situation felt different. Most species aren't despised as much as mine.

Abruptly, my door slammed open. It was Lance who came in. I wasn't surprised.

"WHY, HELLO THERE," he greeted once again. His expression transitioned to a surreal cat face.

"Lance!" I found myself unable to refrain from smiling. He came over and sat down beside me. I rested my head on his shoulder. "It's nice to have someone who can make me smile during these times," I confessed.

"That reminds me! Wanna hear another joke?"

"Oh, gosh, please no—" However, my plea was ignored.

"Knock knock," he started.

Unable to contain my curiosity, I hesitantly replied, ". . .who's there. . .?"

"Annie."

". . .Annie who?"

He rocketed up with a confident grin, screeching, "ANNIE THANG YOU CAN DO, I CAN DO BETTER!"

He left me with a facepalm.

"Since I'm so hilarious, it makes me wonder if I should write a joke book. Y'know, to make lotsa moneyyyy~"

"You should sell it at Barnes and Unstable."

Lance turned to me with a wishful look on his face. "You think they would accept me?"

I almost choked on my tea from hearing that response. After a while, I eventually headed out to find the others. I didn't know too much about what I was going to do today. Hopefully, something exciting would happen.
