If Only
Hot breath, lips on his neck, a slender, soft hand touched his body. They didn't care who was watching them; they didn't care what their priorities were. Both the man and the woman were too intoxicated, too intoxicated with a feeling called lust, too intoxicated in a world they called 'lunatic.'
With Eunseo's existence in his life, he thought he had changed. Changkyun thought he had changed for the better. But he was wrong.
He had choices: to break through and wake up or to stay in the deep fantasy. Intoxication had him choose the latter.
A hand on her jaw pulled her closer. But it was only for a few moments as he sensed a sharp smite. His eyes shot open, seeing a familiar figure of a woman. His mouth muttered out her name.
Their area became quiet.
Gritting her teeth and brittlely, Cha Eunseo said, "How dare you?"
As if he wasn't drunk, he shot up from his seat and said, "I can explain. I-"
"I trusted you, Changkyun."
"Eunseo-yah, I-"
Eunseo spoke with a louder voice, "I gave you a second chance because I trusted you. Huh, I can't believe I am a fool over your fake saccharine words. You know, it hurts so much more knowing that at one point there were good times."
They were staring at each other briefly, and Changkyun saw a bead of tear spill down from her cheeks. He tried to go closer, to wipe her tears, but Eunseo pushed him away.
Eunseo snarled, "Don't touch me with your filthy hands." And with that, she walked away.
Changkyun tried to chase her. At first, his sober friends were trying to stop him. He could only move after he yelled at them. That was when he learned that he wasn't supposed to be surrounded by those types of people.
He barged through the crowd and pushed whoever got in his way. Finally, as he stood at the entrance, he looked around to find Eunseo. No sight of her, or it was his blurry vision that deceived him. Then, he thought, he had no choice but to drive to look for her.
The toxicity in his system hadn't fully come out of his system, and that was the reason he had to squint his eyes while looking through the slow road. He had to shake his head hard, thinking it would dismiss the blurriness and pain in his head.
All of a sudden, he heard a bang in front of his car, and it jerked him from his seat. Frightened, he pulled the brake, quickly unbuckled his seatbelt, and pushed the door open. His steps became slow as the sight of familiar jeans and sandals came into his view. His eyes drew fast to the face.
Hands and breath became shaky. His world suddenly turned dark blue. Then it shut down. He was too stunned to see the person he just hit with his car.
"Eunseo..." As more and more people came to the scene, his steps stammering toward her. "Why you?" He dropped his knees to the ground beside her. His shaky hands reached her shoulder and shook. "Eunseo-yah, it's me, Changkyun. Please open your eyes."
More and more chit-chatter in the background, more water gathered at the line of his eyes. His voice cracked as he begged her to open her eyes. Out of nowhere, he was telling her, "I've taken the good things between us and ruined it. I'm sorry, Eunseo-yah."
When he held
her hands, he felt cold. He felt nervous and panicked. His eyebrows lowered and closer deeper, gritting his teeth, regrets start to engulf his soul. He couldn't stop the tears from flowing as he said, "Stay strong for me, please. You can't leave me like this."
The siren in the back came closer and closer. The medic slightly pulled him back. Pulling him away from the love of his life. It was a scary scene to see nurses rushing, aiding unconscious Eunseo. It became scarier when he heard she lost blood.
Seconds, minutes, and hours passed.
Then he knew he was too late.
If only I resisted the temptation,
You might have a ring on your finger.
If only I put you first,
You wouldn't need to cry because of a jackass like me.
If only I ignored the Stygian...
If only you were still here,
My heart, mind, and life could have been filled with the name of you.
And memories of you.
I miss you,
I miss you...
