~Stupid Cupid - Chapter 7
I took a deep breath and kept walking. I'm going to ask why he's here but if he says anything even remotely offensive, I'm walking away and cursing him to Tartarus. I swear it. So, I walked to my cabin and stopped right before the door. Nico stood from his slouched posture.
"What are you doing here?" I asked as I turned to him.
"I know you heard the prophecy. And I know that part of it includes myself or my sister. I want to hear it."
"Fine." I recited the prophecy to him. He was silent like the others and I was becoming both annoyed and nervous. Does he know something I don't?
"I spoke to my father. He knows who the child of death is." Can he read minds?
"No, I can't read minds. You have a habit of speaking your thoughts." Nico answered and I began blushing like crazy.
"Leo says you blush a lot. I'm starting to believe him." What is it with this guy?
No answer. Hmmmm.
"Well?" I asked.
"What?" Yes! I stopped!
"No you didn't." I growled and he rose an eyebrow.
"You sound like a hellhound."
"You really know how to flatter someone." I rolled my eyes and crossed my arms.
"Yeah, and you really need lessons on sarcasm." I growled again. He smirked at me knowing he was winning.
"You don't give up, do you?"
"Nope."
"Stop flirting and get in here Sky!" Percy yelled and I blushed again.
"Does this mean you're over my outburst?"
"No. This means that I'm going to go on that quest and forget any of this ever happened."
"Oh. So, you're one of the children?"
"Yeah. We're going to go to Chiron Monday. You deserve Capture the Flag tomorrow." With that, Nico left.
I stood there staring at Nico's back and couldn't get over how blunt he was. It was a true refresher. As Nico's figure started blending with the shadows, I noticed that he was actually cute in a mysterious, are-you-going-to-kill-me-or-what kind of way. In other words, he was hot in a bad boy times ten way. Wait, did I just admit I thought Nico was hot?
"Yeah, you did. Now get in here and stop trying to imagine Nico shirtless." Percy answered and I blushed. I really hate speaking my thoughts without realizing it.
I scowled at him and marched into the cabin. I walked to my cabin grabbing some pajama shorts and a tank-top that Piper gave me. Piper kind of gave me enough clothes to last a month without ever wearing something twice. It was awesome of her.
"What do you need, Percy?"
"Nothing. I was getting annoyed with you flirting with Nico and called you in here."
"I was not flirting!"
"Yes, you were. You also tend to flirt with Leo who wants to see you at Bunker Nine after breakfast."
"I don't flirt and why?"
"He didn't say and you flirt unconsciously. You like them and flirt unknowingly."
"Why does Annabeth date you?"
"Because I'm awesome and good looking." Nico's better.
"Stop daydreaming about Nico! He isn't better than me, either!"
"Gah! I need to stop saying those things aloud."
"Go to sleep, Sky."
"Fine." I grumble some very colourful words in Greek and changed soon falling asleep. Stupid me getting a stupid crush on a stupid boy with amazing hair and eyes and skin and height and - Stop it!
When I wake up, it's still dark outside and the horizon is barely yellow. I know that I'm not falling back to sleep, so, I change into some light-blue jean shorts, an orange CHB Tee, and my gray Vans. Casual and the most comfortable thing Piper gave me (Piper gave me comfortable things in general, these were just the most comfortable). Once I was dressed, I walked to the arena to do some target practice. Might as well see what I can really do.
I pulled the charm off the chain and notched an arrow. Breath in when you pull back and out when you release. A voice gives me advice and I listen. I breath out as the arrow flies towards the target. Time seems to slow while the sleek wooden arrow cuts through the calm air. The head cuts through the red dot and stops half way threw. I stared at it for a second and then notch another arrow. The arrow splits the first in two. Okay, maybe this isn't just luck. I continue with the one target - getting the same outcome - until I can't shoot anymore arrows.
After shooting close to thirty arrows, I notice that my quiver refills itself when I run out of arrows. That's handy especially in battle. I feel the Katniss Everdeen. I'm the 'Girl on Fire' without the fire. Wait, am I going to find a little sister and then volunteer for a fight to the death to save her now? I don't want to die! Nevermind, that was just me being my crazy self. Oh, well.
"Wow! Did you shoot all of those?" I turn around to see who I assume to be Will Solace.
"Yeah. I've been here since five in the morning. What time is it?" I ask as I put my charm back on.
"Um, about six thirty. You shot all of those and never got anything other than a bull's eye?"
"Yep. Never even tried 'till now." I look back over at the arrows and smile to myself.
"You just might be better than an Apollo kid and that's coming from the best."
"You're the best?"
"No," I laughed at him and he continued. "I'd say you were better then the Hunters but I haven't seen their skills since Thalia came to visit after the war. Jason's her little brother and even though Thalia's a day before sixteen she still wants to be the protective sis."
"Thalia's Jason's half sister?"
"Nope. Same father and mother. Leave it to Zeus to break the oath twice with the same woman."
"Um, Poseidon broke the oath twice." I point out.
"Yeah, but Zeus made the oath to start with. He then blames Percy saying that Poseidon shouldn't have broken the oath and that Percy was a bad omen, blah, blah, blah."
"So, Zeus is a hypocrite?" There was a loud rumble of thunder and I got annoyed.
"Careful. Zeus can and will hit you with lightning."
"I don't care! He's a hypocrite, temperamental, and blamed my brother for something he didn't do!" Another, louder rumble of thunder went by and Zeus was starting to make my blood boil.
"Hey, Sky, calm down." Will backed up a few yards and only then did I realize that a hurricane was forming around me and water was dancing around my arms in small waves.
"What's going on?" I was starting to panic and that only made the waves on my arms become wild.
"Don't panic."
"You can't tell someone not to panic! That only makes them panic more!" The waves started to slow and then the froze all together making an ice-armor type of thing around my arms.
"I'm going to get Percy." I watched helplessly as Will ran off to the cabins.
The absence of him only made things worse. I was being lifted off the ground by the hurricane and ice shards were flying off of me. I looked up to see that a small crowd had started to form and they all looked scared. As the crowd backed away, I felt even more confused and scared.
"Hey! Get out of here! You have better things to do! I think Chiron is issuing a quest!" I turned my head and saw Percy running towards me and I felt relieved but worried. What if I hurt him? What if he can't help me?
"Sky, I need you to think of a safe place. Remember something that makes you smile." I nod slightly and remember the time Brandon tried to scare Riley and I only to fall on his butt. We wouldn't let him live that down for the life of him.
"There we go." Percy says and when I open my eyes, he's holding me to his chest.
"W-What was that?" My voice is small and weak as I ask.
"That was your power. I couldn't make hurricanes until I was sixteen and I've never frozen water before. You're good but need to learn to control your emotions. Your powers are linked to them." Percy tells me and I nod resting my head on his chest. I'm suddenly very tired.
"You okay?"
"With great power... Comes great need to take a nap." I say but they weren't my words.
"Nico said the same thing." Percy chuckles and then, I'm out like a light.
