~Stupid Cupid - Chapter 4

I laugh lightly as Leo runs off and turn to the door in front of me. Taking a deep breath I raise my hand to knock but the door opens revealing a man with a beard and pudgy belly wearing a colourful Hawaiian shirt, shorts, and bright purple running shoes.

"What do you want?" he asks rather rudely.

"I want to talk to Chiron. I'm a new camper here." I reply sassily. Who does he think he is?

"Who do I think I am? I'm Dionysus, god of wine and insanity. Ever speak to me in such a disrespectful tone again and I'll turn you into a grape vine." His eyes glow with a purple fire and I see people going insane drinking wine and children being killed by vines.

I walk past him and enter the room where a man in a wheelchair sits looking over papers. He has curly brown hair, chocolate eyes and a warm smile.

"Hello, child. You must be new. Come and sit," he says warmly. I smile at him and take a seat across from him.

"What's your name?" he asks.

"I'm Skylar Rey Coast. You can call me Sky though. I'm fourteen."

"Do you know who your godly parent is?"

"Well, no. All my mother said was that they met at the beach."

"Well, most of the time, demigods are claimed by the time they turn thirteen or within a week of being at camp, so, no worries."

"Okay, great."

"I assume that Percy and Annabeth have told you about camp and shown you around."

"Um, they told me about camp and Leo Valdez is going to show me around."

"Alright. I hate to keep Leo waiting. It was nice meeting you, Skylar."

With that, I walk out of the house and find Leo waiting for me.

"You didn't have to wait."

"I wanted to." I blush slightly.

"Did I make someone blush?" Leo teases.

"I blush easily, that's all."

"Okay, sure."

Leo shows me the training arena and climbing wall, the lake, and the Mess Hall. We're on our way to the cabins now. I saw twelve cabins in a 'U' shape and several others around it but they were slightly smaller.

"The two at the top are Zeus and Hera's. Hera's is empty and the only one that stays in Zeus' is-"

"Jason. I thought he was a son of Jupiter. Why isn't he at the Roman camp?"

"Jason likes the Greek camp better and Piper and I are here. Piper's his girlfriend and I'm his best friend. Super - sized McShizzle."

"Cool. I'm guessing cabin three is Poseidon's." I ignore his weird nickname that was probably given to by himself.

"Yeah and over there is Demeter's, Ares', Apollo's, Athena's, Aphrodite's, Hermes', Hephaestus'- which is my cabin - Dionysus', and Artemis' but it's always empty except when the Hunters of Artemis come around. The slightly smaller ones are for the minor gods like Eros, Iris, Nemesis, and so on." Leo said as he pointed to the each cabin.

"What about that one?" I ask and point to a black cabin.

"That's the Hades cabin. Nico stays there. It's cabin thirteen."

"That's awesome!"

"What?"

"I love how it's nice and dark. Probably really quiet, too. Seems to suit Nico just fine, really. He must like it."

"Actually, Nico moves around a lot. He doesn't feel like he belongs."

"Why? Aren't you guys his friends? Why wouldn't he belong with his friends?"

"Nico's had a hard life. He isn't from this cent-"

"I don't think you're the right person to tell my story, Valdez." I turn around to come face to face with Nico. Well, it's more like face to lips.

Nico's taller than me by a few inches and I back up so I don't have to look up at him. He's probably around 5'6". Leo's about 5'7" but Jason and Percy are about six foot. I don't like being tall, so, I'm glad to be around people who are taller than me. It makes me feel more normal when in reality I'm a hyperactive demigod.

"Sorry, Nico." I see Leo tense telling me he's uncomfortable.

"Next time don't be so nosey, Leo." With that, Nico walks off to his cabin. I make a last minute decision and don't follow Leo.

"Nico!" I yell causing Nico to stop and turn.

"What, Skylar?" The edge in his voice reminds me of Zach and I waver slightly.

"I wanted to apologize for being so rude to you. When I feel threatened I often become defensive. You aren't cold and it doesn't matter that you're a son of Hades." I smile happily at him and I can see that I took him off guard but he quickly recovers. His gaze becomes cold and my smile drops.

"Whatever. I don't even care what a weakling thinks." I watch as Nico walks into his cabin.

"Sky, he didn't mean it. He's just not used to someone being so open around him." Leo tries to comfort me.

"No. It's okay. He... He has his rights." I let a tear slip down my face and I walk to the lake.

I need to stop proving Zach right by crying so easily. It serves me right for letting my guard down so quickly, though. I feel as though I should hate Nico or never want to go near him again but I feel even more attracted to him. Before his gaze turned cold I saw what he felt inside. He was broken and broken people always want to be fixed. Nico just doesn't know he wants to be fixed which is why I'm here. I'm going to help Nico di Angelo in anyway I can.

It had been an hour after I ran to the lake when Leo showed up.

"Hey, Sky. I wanted to give you some space before I told you everything else about camp. How are you?"

"I'm okay but I do want to know the rest about camp!" I said lightly but you could hear the excitement in my voice.

"Alright. Well, the demigods here are aloud to date anyone they chose except there siblings because that's weird," I laughed at Leo and let him continue, "We have to train at some point every day and we have to be educated. Annabeth teaches Ancient Greek and Chiron and a few other campers teach everything else. Every Friday we play a game of Capture the Flag which you'll learn more about tomorrow. At all the meals, we're supposed to sit at the table assigned to our godly parent with the exception of the Hermes cabin since they take in any undetermined campers but we sit wherever we want most of the time. The last thing is listen to the rules and try to annoy Mr. D without being turned to a grape or strawberry plant." I laugh at the end of Leo's guide to camp.

"Good to know. When's dinner though?"

"Well-" A conch horn blew and Leo laughed, "Now. Before I forget, we sacrifice part of our meal to the gods. Something about how they like the scent of burnt food. I don't know."

"Things just get stranger and stranger."

Leo walks with me to the Mess Hall and I take a seat at the Hermes table with Travis and Connor. Chiron and Mr. D come in and the campers all quiet down to hear announcements.

"As usual, we will be playing Capture the Flag Friday evening and please remember that there is no, under any circumstances, severely maiming any campers. The woods will be fully stocked so be ready for surprises. Now, onto other news, as of Monday we have had a new camper with us." Travis and Connor nudged me to stand and I did, "Her name is Skylar Rey Coast and so far she is undetermined-" Chiron was stopped in the middle of his sentence when there was a collective amount of gasps and whispers from campers as they looked at me.

Shining above my head was a glowing green/blue triton. Chiron raised his hands and the campers all silenced. I looked at Percy and he was smirking in amusement.

"Well, it seems as though Skylar has been claimed. All hail Skylar Rey Coast, daughter of Poseidon, god of the sea and creator of horses." The campers cheered and my hand went to my necklace.

"Enjoy your meal!" Chiron smiled and what looked to be wood nymphs started to hand out plates of food.

After I was 'claimed' Travis and Connor told me to go sit with Percy at the Poseidon table. I got up with my plate of food and walked over. I passed Leo on the way and he got up and followed me. He sat down next to me at my table. When I set my plate down, I sat criss - cross - applesauce and twisted my body so I was facing both Percy and Leo. They looked at me with entertained looks that reminded me of Jake and Brandon when Riley and I made a bet on what would happen to Zach.

"So, a daughter of Poseidon. You know, your power and my power at opposites." Leo said and I looked at him in confusion.

"Here, let me show you." As Leo finished his sentence, he lifted his hand and it caught fire.

I looked at him in amazement and said, "Cool!" making Percy and him laugh.

"You think me catching on fire is cool but you think Nico's cabin is awesome. I am offended."

"Wait, you find Nico's cabin cooler than a guy that can catch fire without being burnt?" I nodded and he chuckled.

"Do I have any other siblings?" I asked randomly looking at Percy.

"A lot. If you count every cyclopes alive."

"W-what?"

"Yeah."

"But, a cyclopes tried to kill my mom and I."

"Not all cyclopes' are nice, Sky. Some are very cruel but some are also very kind. Take my brother - our brother - Tyson, for example. He's the second kindest person or creature you'll ever meet."

"Who's the kindest?" Percy's smile dropped and I saw a flash of sadness cross over his eyes.

"You don't have to answer," I said and he smiled gratefully at me.

"Sky, I want to show you something tomorrow. Meet me at the lake after breakfast. I gotta get back to my siblings." Leo said and I nodded.

Finally made friends by being myself. I was about to eat my pizza when I realised I needed something. I was about to ask Percy about it when Annabeth, Jason, and Piper walked over.

"Hey! How's it going, guys?" Piper said cheerily.

"Good, but, how do I get a drink?" I ask and they smile at me obviously amused with my cluelessness.

"The chalice is enchanted. Just tell it what you want and it'll appear." Percy tells me pushing the chalice towards me.

"Um, blue Arizona green tea." I say and smile as the cup fills with a blue liquid.

"Blue, eh? Percy always orders blue food." Jason laughs at my similarity with Percy.

"I love the colour blue and green tea. I just made the green tea blue." I took a sip of the refreshing drink smiled.

"You don't hear that often." Annabeth says and sits next to Percy, resting her head on his shoulder.

"Okay, wait. So, Percy and Annabeth are together, Piper and Jason are together, Nico doesn't stay in one place long enough to get a girlfriend from what I hear. What about Leo?" I asked them.

"Well, Leo kind of has a girlfriend. In away." Percy explained.

"That doesn't make sense." I say.

"You're a demigod in a world where Greek and Roman myth is real. Nothing makes sense." Jason answered and swung his arm over Piper.

"That is not the point!" I exclaim.

"Then what is the point?" Annabeth asked me as her grey eyes trained themselves on me.

"That it doesn't make sense." I say and I could tell I was annoying her. They all gave me a look. I sighed and went back to eating. I guess that conversation's over.
