~Stupid Cupid - Chapter 14
"Sky?" Nico asked. He had stopped walking and I with him.
I looked towards him and say, "Yeah?"
"You've been silent for twenty minutes which is not like you. Are you okay? Did you have a vision? Why did you take that picture?"
"Do you know anything about Leo's past?" I asked and Nico pursed his lips. "You know something!"
"Yes."
"What is it?"
Nico looked up at the sky and then sighed. "When Leo was a kid, his mother died and he was sent to a foster home. He ran away and was on the run until he was sent to a school where he met Piper and Jason."
"How did his mother die?" I suddenly felt like this was important.
"In a fire. Leo didn't say anything else but..."
"'But' what?"
"When I was in the Underworld, I saw her. She was in the Fields of Asphodel but she was muttering something and tapping a pattern on her knee. She could remember. Not much but something."
"Why is that so strange?"
"No one other than children of Hades can remember things from their life on earth. If she could remember and isn't a child of Hades... I don't know. I asked Hades but he didn't say anything. I never saw her again, though. I asked Hades where she was and he said he sent her to rebirth."
"Oh my gods."
"Why did you ask?" I looked at Nico and explained my vision. He was silent for a while.
"If Night is trying to recreate major occurrences in the world and Leo's mom could remember - which is a pretty major thing in the world of demigods - I think Night is trying to recreate Leo's mom's death. And to do so, she'd need Leo."
"And the place where it all happened," I said trying to finish the puzzel.
"They're going to come back here. We need to contact Chiron." There was no question. If we didn't run this by Chiron, we were seriously doomed.
Nico and I walked back to were the old burned building was and thought of a plan. We had four of the six large water bottles that we had in the beginning. If I could make a good mist with one - and keep it constant long enough - Nico could contact Chiron and converse with him. How? I have no clue.
Nico fished in his pocket for a while and then pulled out a gold coin. I looked at him questioningly but he just waved me off. I started making the mist (which I still don't know why I have to do) and the mist caught the light to make a rainbow.
"Oh Iris, goddess of the Rainbow, please except my offering." Nico said in a rather bored tone then flipped the coin in and it dissapeared once it touched the water. "Chiron, Camp Half-Blood."
The rainbow shimmered and then Chiron, Percy, and Piper appeared having a very intense conversation. I felt my stomache drop at the sight of Percy but ignored it. Piper was fuming and Percy had a bright pink cheek.
"-did you slap Percy, Piper?" Chiron said and Nico and I started listening intently.
"He disappears for three days, doesn't say good-bye to his half sister - who might not even come back - and then shows up like he's the king of everything. He's an a-"
"Chiron!" Nico yelled and Piper's ears tuned pink.
Chiron turned towards us and said, "Nico? Sky? What's going on?" Nico explained what had happened and about my vision - during which Piper's eyes widened - and then about our theory.
"Oh, dear gods. I think you might be right. Stay where you are. I need to contact some friends of mine. I will get back to you later. I must go but be sure to keep -" The mist shimmered out and the line went dead.
Nico groaned and looked at me. I smiled at him sheepishly. He just shook his head and pulled a small box out of his bag.
"What's that?" Nico looked at me and then threw it on the ground. It turned into a silvery tent fully stocked with food, sleeping bags, and clothes - only for girls though.
"A gift from my friend Thalia."
"Jason's sister." I clarified and he nodded.
"We probably won't be able to contact the camp for a while and we both need sleep. The tent is equiped with its own defence system so we can sleep without a guard and routine. Go on in, I'm going to search the area for a second." I nodded and walked into the small tent that isn't very small on the inside.
While I sit in the tent alone in silence, I can't help but start to think about everything that's happened since finding out I was a demigod. A cyclopes - who is technically related to me - attacks my mother and I, four guys come to me in a dream, I fight off three empousa, and stay unconscious for days. I meet a group of demigods - four of which I dreamt of - I find my brother and several friends, I make a hot enemy on my first day conscious at the camp, a really hot guy makes me a robotic dog, and I am given a quest with my enemy. Last, the hot guy that made the dog is kidnapped, I become close to my enemy and develope a crush on them, fight a Fury, and then discover things about others past because I'm some type of extremly special demigod that the gods had to protect. I have a really screwed up life.
I sighed and opened my bag. As I looked for a pair of sweat pants and a tank top, Nico came back inside. He grabbed his bag and started rummaging through it. It was silent but neither of us cared. I guess after everything we didn't really feel like talking but I'm okay with that. There's no need for pointless conversation if nothing is ever going to happen. Not that I want anything to happen - okay, maybe a little.
"I should go change and so should you. I'll be outside." I watched as Nico walked out of the tent and then I slipped off my original clothes, stuffed some of the clothes that came with the tent into my bag, and then put on my tank and sweats.
After putting everything away I crawled over to a sleeping bag and curled up inside. It was already getting pretty cold and I for one didn't feel like being cold. There was a scratching noise from outside and then I saw Nico come in with a hand over his eyes.
"What on Olympus are you doing?" I asked in disbeilf. No guy I know would ever be polite enough to knock nor put a hand over their eyes... Then again most guys I know think I'd break their arm if they came in without permission from the one and only, me.
"Being polite. Una signora merita rispetto. A lady deserves respect. My mother would always tell B and I that and then Bianca told me that."
"You were trained well, di Angelo." I laugh and he sits down in his own sleeping bag.
"So are we just going to wait here until Chiron contacts his 'friends'? What if we're wrong and Leo's being tortured right now?" I asked. Leave it to me to only think about what can happen.
"Yes, we are going to stay here and for know don't think about that, you need your rest."
I sighed but I curl up inside the sleeping bag and fall into a deep sleep.
I am running. Rain hits my face - burns my skin and leaves me cold. Fire blazes behind me and the ground crumbles beneath me. A voice laughs cruelly and starts to speak but thunder starts and the falling ground drown it out. My lungs burn from a lack of oxygen as my breathing becomes shallow and my legs feel like jelly. I don't know how long I've been running but I do know that I am going to give out soon.
Then, all at once, everything stops and the heavy rain becomes a silent drizzle. A figure appears in the clearing path. The ground floats back into place and the sun shines through the clouds every now and then. My breathing regulates and my legs don't feel as weak.
As I look around I notice that the peacefulness is only in part of the area. The storm rages on a few feet away. In the storm there is a figure screaming in pain and where I am the is a figure of the same stature leaning against a tree relaxed. Those two figures turn out to be Nico. I want to run and help him but the second my foot moves, he disappears.
The first figure comes closer and I see that the figure has soft features, brown eyes, and dark chocolate wavy hair. Her lips are a plump pale pink and she wears a dark black dress that flows behind her. As the fabric moves, star-like images appear and then shimmer away.
"Who are you?" The words form in my mouth but I don't remember actually making the action to speak them. They seem to float through the air like the wind itself is my mind and voice, I am simply the physical form.
"I am Night. I came to you in your first dream as well. I don't wish to harm you but to... Persuade you to join me. Most children your age are simple godly kids but you are different, Skylar." I flinch at my full name, the last time I heard it was from Zach.
"I know I'm different, what's your point?"
"You know that you were blessed by some of the gods but you don't know that I was one of them." I stand still, my expression blank.
"Go on." My words are hoarse and don't have the same rythmic feel in the air. Instead of a breeze it is like a frantic blowing wind. What is she trying to say?
