๋࣭ ⭑⚝ chapter 1: i should change
'july 30th, 2024
as i stared out the window, i waited for anything interesting to happen. like maybe godzilla would come out of nowhere and rip apart the many cabins i saw. or maybe, even maybe, a dragon would fly on top of the car and would become one with the family. but no, we were taking the long drive from calgary to vancouver.
we left at 4am, and it was already 3pm. i wanted to go back to calgary, but i knew i couldn't. my aunt died, and she was the only one taking care of grandma. so, we made the bold choice to pack everything and leave calgary, the place i had lived for 14 years.
i wasn't mad. its not like i was leaving any friends behind. haven't had any of those in a while. my last friend was probably in 7th grade. we had a huge falling out, over something so miniscule. that was just her, an overdramatic, rude bitch. she didn't even say anything after the argument. just blocked me and ignored me in the hallway when i tried to apologize for whatever i did. it doesnt matter anymore, fuck her.
the only real thing i would miss is . . .
never mind, i got nothing.
i was hoping to get to franklin and actually go out, make friends, anything. so far, it'll probably be like back at home. rotting in my room all day, unless mom needed me to help run errands or something. dad was always at work anyways. i should probably talk about my family while they're a topic of interest.
my dad harold was your average movie dad. busy business man, never had time for his kids, yet at the end, he would find the true meaning of his family. that hasn't happened for us yet, and probably never will. i probably spend more time talking to walls than my dad. they also had a better purpose.
dad cheated on mom a while back. i don't even know why they're still together. they say its 'to keep the family together' but i already know its a matter of time before they get divorced. i give them another three months.
mom, on the other hand, is the sweetest woman you will ever meet. i don't even think she's mad at my dad. 'just disappointed' is probably what she would say. she used to run the bookstore in town, but had to sell it to come take care of her mom in vancouver, my grandma. she wants to start another one, and i hope she does. we both love reading. moms probably one of the only people i talk to, other than my siblings.
i have two, both younger. lynn and caleb. lynn is 11, and caleb is 7. as much as i love them, they can be such a pain. lynn is always asking me to make bracelets or color, but i never do. caleb is always asking to play with his train set (huge may i add), but again i never do. im probably one of the worst siblings they could ask for.

we arrived to the house. immediately, i thought 'are we rich?' definitely not rich, but also not broke. we're in the middle. it was a two story cabin, an upgrade from our old house, which was a small two story townhouse. mom was driving her minivan, while dad drove his truck, along with the uhaul with most of our furniture. we planned to buy more, so we were all stuck sleeping on the floor of our bedrooms, which we went to choose.
i picked the biggest room, of course. biggest is an understatement, all the rooms were huge. i had no idea where we got this kind of money. its like one day my parents woke up and traded places with millionaires. turns out, my aunt left it to us in her will, a vacation home she had. she didn't have any kids to give it to, she was never married or anything like that. just the cool aunt you see sometimes at gatherings. it was paid off, so we would only need to worry about paying off property taxes and all that jazz.
dad soon arrived and we unloaded everything. took about two hours fully.
'10:18PM
as i scrolled my bedroom pinterest board for inspiration and listened to laufey, i glanced at the time. 10:18PM. sighing, I turned off the small lamp next to me, and plugged in my night light. yes, i still sleep with a night light at 14, get over it. always have since the incident...
man, i should change.
