The "My Time on Wattpad" Tag
I was tagged by to do this tag - thank you!!
As per usual, this is a lot of waffle...
I joined Wattpad because it was a social network for writers and reader, how cool is that? Also at the time the Beatles fan fiction world was a little fragmented and split up following the break up, demise or abandonment of a lot of our old Beatles fan fic haunts - Rooftop Sessions was no longer updating, Beatlescribes and other groups had been abandoned and LJ was/is practically unused. Beatlescribes (at the time) was active - but that was a private yahoo group and I wanted a bigger audience of readers so I joined Wattpad. Oh, how I miss Beatlescribes... *sigh*
Well, in terms of Wattpad, it was Devil In Her Heart. I'd started DIHH in 2005, but due to reasons I won't go into right now, I stopped writing from around 2006 until 2011. When I started again, I joined Wattpad and re-wrote Devil In Her Heart and gave it a proper ending. Devil in Her Heart was also my first novel (or at least, novella) length story.
Devil in Her Heart was inspired by two things - I'd just read Alistair Taylor's book, 'With The Beatles' which was quite a lot about Brian and there was a little bit in there about how people would make him offers or try to kinda take over the Beatles, so that was one thread. And the other idea came from conversations about romance Beatles stories and Mary-Sues and I thought wouldn't it be fun to write a girl-meets-Beatle story where you will really despise the girl!
My first ever, ever Beatles Fan Fiction was a short story called Uplifting, which was about brief encounters with Beatle George. It was written c. 2003. I toyed with posting it here, but I read it again and it is AWFUL. So many cringes! It was published by Rooftop Sessions, and then later they included it in their 4 or 5 anthology book (yeah, those were the good old days, when we used to have published Beatles fan fic in real paperback books!) But, no, it was pretty bad.
Um, I think - I hope - it's improved quite a bit. As I said before, I'd not written a word for 5 years, so Devil In Her Heart and then my first 'new' story was Razzmatazz which was really an exercise to see if I could write anymore. Shelter In Your Love followed Razzmatazz and at the time of writing I'm nearly at the end of it. I've been writing it for 2 years near enough, and I think you can trace my development as a writer through it from the start to the current place. I'm quite tempted to rewrite lots of it - especially the start! But we'll finish it all first... Plus, you know, I do actually have other story ideas bubbling away back here!!
Told you it was a lot of waffle!
Tagging a couple of writers I think would be interesting to hear from .... Don't feel obliged to do it though!
And anyone who wants too. Apologies if you've already been tagged too!
