So, this is what I was just thinking. What if Metal wasn't supposed to have free will after Sonic Heroes? Of course I think the Eggman had gotten rid of Neo and made a new Metal Sonic but hid the thinking and free will part. Just my random thoughts.

Sonic's POV

I waited at the track for Egghead. He wanted to race me and Metalhead, again. Wasn't Metal the one who tried to kill him? Why would he bring him back? I thought while he was coming. I waited until I heard a machine fly up. Eggman.

"So, why did you revived the murder-bot?" I asked with some snark in my voice.

"Why would I ever bring back that thing! No, I made a new one! Wasn't easy, but worth it." He responded. So that's why he didn't attack us often. I thought.

"Well, are you ready to lose?" I said to the figure behind him. Eggman made a motion to make it step forwards. I looked at the new robot, but I noticed something was different about it.

"I should ask you the same thing."  He retorted. I looked at the new robot carefully. It was empty, I could tell by the vacant stare in it's eyes. I almost felt sympathetic for it but then I remembered. It's not like Neo, Sonic! It has no free will, no mind, no thoughts. I shook my head.

"Let's cut to the chase, Metalhead." I said, no response from the robot came. It went to the starting line and my friends were at the sidelines cheering for me.

"On your marks... Get set... GO!!" Eggman and Tails yelled in unison. I sped off easily taking the lead, but robot following close behind.

"Listen, I know that you don't have anything going on in that head of yours, but I jut wanted to say that I won't be going hard on you." I told the robot as I got faster. The robot didn't reply but just kept speeding up to stay on my tail. The tracks were wild! Loop-de-loops, spirals, wavy roads, rough terrain. You name it, we had to run over it. There was this extra large spiral going up, I was tempted to try to knock Metal off but then it would slow me down. At the end of the spiral was a steep road.

"You can do it Sonic!"

"Do your best!"

"You can't lose to that Dumb robot!"

All of this made me go faster, faster, faster, and even more faster! But metal was catching up, I looked at him and decided it was safe if I attacked him. I let him catch up and when he was about to have victory right within his reach.... I did a homing attack on it.

Nobody's POV

The robot didn't see Sonic's attack coming, so when it got hit it was thrown off the track by how much speed Sonic added to the attack. It busted up the engine severely, nearly broke off an arm too. Everybody gasped when they saw the robot get smashed into the ground. Since they were at a steep decline the robot tumbled for quite a while taking much damage. Everybody's attention was torn off the robot when there was a victorious shout.

"I won!!" Sonic yelled happily as he skidded to a stop. All of his friends ran up to him happily and put them on their shoulders.

"SONIC! SONIC!! SONIC!!" They chanted with victory, Eggman was infuriated when he saw that Sonic was once again, victorious.

"You haven't seen the last of me!" He shouted over the chants.

The robot was quickly forgotten and was still tumbling, one of the arms were ripped off messily, exposing many wires and cables. The other arm that remained on was useless due to the battering, the screen was incredibly cracked, one of  the ears on the robot was ripped off clean. There were many dents on Metal and the engine was totaled. But Sonic's attack put something in the robot, something was switched on.

???'s POV

I was rolling down helplessly, and covered in scratches in dents.
What happened!?
Why am I falling?
Why does this hurt so much!?
These voices filled my head as quickly as I was tumbling.
What are these voices!?
This freaked me out! What are these voices doing here!?! I would scream but I couldn't bring myself to. The pain I was feeling was unbearable.
Am I... Thinking..?
Are these thoughts?
Somehow I knew what everything was, words and information covered up my vision making it difficult to see what was happening. It had only been like a few seconds yet so much has happened in my... Mind?
Why can't I stop this!? It hurts!!
Stop this!!
I screamed in my head but nobody could hear. Suddenly there was a loud crush and a frenzy of pain throughout my back. I instantly blacked out on the impact.

Robotnik's POV

I looked up and saw Metal Sonic tumbling down basically with no control. He was practically destroyed! I winced as I saw him crash into a pole. At least that stopped him from falling any further. I walked up to inspect he remains of him, he was totaled! I picked him up and part of his leg fell off. I picked it up and walked off with Metal over my shoulder and put him down in my ship and flew off.

"Hello, did you win the race?" Orbot asked gleefully. I showed him Metal's body.

"Does this look like I won!?" I yelled at him, he flinched a bit at my rage. I went off into the lab and spent hours there repairing Metal Sonic. I looked at his programming and saw that something was... Different.

"What is that?" I looked at the screen and saw something I didn't believe, thoughts! I replayed his last thoughts and heard his confusion and fear.

What happened!?
Why am I falling?
Why does this hurt so much!?

"Emotions..." I stared at it in awe. Had Sonic added something to Metal when he attacked him? I put Metal in a containment cell and put restraints on him. I looked at him carefully. How did he do it? He wasn't supposed to have a mind of his own after the Neo incident...

Metal's POV

Systems online... 
My eyes flickered on with many words in my vision.
Everything hurts...
I noticed that I was in some sort of containment cell, and that I was restrained to the corners.
Why am I like this? Why can't I move!?
I started to panic and struggled against the restraints holding me down, but to no avail.
I can't leave! I need to leave! I have to get out of here!!
I started pulling and without noticing, activated my engine.
LET... ME... GO!!!
I blasted through the glass that held me back and the clasps that held me down were busted off clean.
I have to get out of this place.
I was going to run until someone walked out of the smoke, slowly clapping his hands.

"Impressive, Metal Sonic." He said with a smile. I looked up at him confused.

Is Metal Sonic my name?
I looked out with vacant eyes. Who was this person?

"I see you're pretty confused." He said, I nodded in response. He made a motion for me to follow him, and I hesitated at first, but then I did.

"You're unique... You have thoughts and free will." I nodded in acknowledgment.

"But... You weren't supposed to, you can't be allowed to have that." I flinched when I heard that.
I wasn't supposed to? Then why do I have these thoughts? He tapped on my shoulder so that snapped my out of my thoughts.

"I'd allow you to have free will and thoughts, but the last time I did that to two other robots I had made, one saved my sworn enemy and the other tried to kill me!" I flinched at what the other robot had done. But that doesn't mean that I won't be loyal to you... He looked at me as if he knew what I was thinking.

"So, sadly for you that means I'll have to put restrictions on your thoughts and will." I looked up in horror. NO!! I have to get out of here! He can't just do that to me!! I ran out and darted through that halls in fear. He can't catch me, I don't want to be empty... I was yanked back by a robotic arm and looked up. It was him.

"You have to come with me!" He demanded. I struggled to get out of his grip but it was firm. You can't do this!! I don't want to be just a machine! Let me go!! All my pleas and begging was in my head so he couldn't hear. I fought but I couldn't get free. Let me go!! Soon I scanned his arm, it was a robotic arm!! No wonder he had such a strong grip!

"Now now, I don't like doing this but I have to." He said. I was strapped to a table with metal clasps. I let out an electronic screech when he grabbed a drill and walked up to me.

Please... Don't do this to me... I begged with my eyes. I flickered them off so I didn't have to see what was going to happen to me.
