Just a Dream
"FUCK!!"
That screaming definitely wasn't Elsen.
"SON OF A BITCH-ASS WHORE!! SHIT SHIT GOD FUCKING DAMN IT!!!"
Definitely.
Batter ran over to the screaming girl who was hugging her leg. The pain was so bad it got to the point it was just incoherent hate and rage into sound. The screaming and crying together made her an emotionally unstable mess.
"Are you okay?" He asked, halfheartedly poking her side with a stick.
"NO YOU SHIT-ASS FUCKER!!" She screamed, tears streaming down her face. "DON'T FUCKING TOUCH ME YOU HOE!"
"I barely did anything." He tossed the bat aside to show a sign of peace.
"FUCKING BASTARD BITCH STAY THE FUCK AWAY!!" She clung to her leg, wailing and screeching at this point.
He shrugged and stepped away. It wasn't his fault that she took the wrong step and fell while looking for him. He would be fine that she was going to remain a mess of flesh and blood on the ground until she either died or calmed down. Except for the fact that it held back his mission.
"Listen, we need to get going so I'm just going to give you this." He didn't even know if she could hear, but he got out a joker.
"Step away..." She heaved, quiet for once. He only got closer. "I said... STAY AWAY!!"
She flung her fist, it hit the joker and smashed it. He felt bones in his hand fracture and crack under the sheer force. He didn't have time to react when she attacked again and hit his head, she held her signature weapon, a small clock with enough engravement of a brain on the gold.
Now that he was out, she could rest and actually calm down for once. She didn't think once of the consequences of her actions.
"Honey?"
"Honey? Did you fall asleep again? Get up."
"Family picnics aren't supposed to be for naps, come on, Hugo's about to open the present you got him!"
He blinked, looking up dazed for a moment. His vision cleared and he could see a clear blue sky with a warm orange sun. Color.
"Get up! Hurry!" He felt himself being shook, he got up and saw his wife, the Queen, sitting by him.
"Okay... How long was I out?" He rubbed his eyes and saw that it was definitely her.
"Ten minutes, and you're lucky I realized you fell asleep before the presents. Now hurry!" She was cheerful, he hadn't seen her like this in forever. He let the woman drag him up the hill.
"Amigo! Where have you been?" Zacharie walked up, hugging the Batter suddenly. "You're a bit slow, friend." He blinked in confusion in return.
"Wha?" He barely had a chance to speak until a shrill voice cut the conversation short.
"Hugo's opening the presents! I don't wanna miss it because of you, sleeping beauty!" A large bird flew past them, a girl cheerfully riding her.
"Quick!" The Kid said, jumping off.
"True, amigo. Let's get going!" Zacharie shoved his friend along, sitting him down onto the red blanket a toddler sat on with him.
"Open my gift first!" Dedan shoved a big red box in front of the big eyed child, who laughed and shoved it away from himself. "Come on!"
"Best if you get the presents over with so you can get the delicious cake I made!" Enoch walked in, sitting down with a big cheerful smile.
"Hugo, honey, what present do you want?" The Queen asked, sitting down by her husband.
"Dada's" He cried cheerfully. A medium sized box in blue paper was placed in front of him. The child pulled the wrapping paper off, and opened the box. Inside was a hat.
"It's part red, but the rest is white so you can have it show whatever you want. You can draw or decorate it whoever you like." Batter said, smiling. He took the hat and put it on Hugo's head.
"Best Dada!" He squealed, hugging him unexpectedly. Slowly, he returned it.
"Me next! Me next!!" Dedan shoved his box in the place of the small one. Hugo let go and started opening it. It was shown to be a tricycle.
"Impressive." The masked man said, admiring the gift.
"Of course it is! I put the finest workmanship into it personally!" He bragged at the child attempted to get on.
"Are you sure you didn't overwork those Elsens?" The Queen laughed, he shook his head
"Nonsense! Everyone got one piece to work on, but I did most of it! It's a gift from everyone in my zone." Dedan helped the kid ride the tricycle a bit, then let he stop to open more.
The next half our was filled with squeals of delight, joy, and testing out of the gifts. This place had family, friends, simple delight and happiness. Something thought to be almost unobtainable for the Batter before. It had everything.
"Are the presents done? Then here comes the cake!" Enoch handed everyone a plate with a slice. "There are more sweets on the table!"
Sure enough, there were deserts of every kind if the already sweet cake wasn't enough to satisfy your sweet tooth. Elsens were hanging around it relaxed, in casual conversation and tasting a little bit of everything. Some who haven't seen each other due to living in different zones had tear jerking reunions. They hugged and cried and caught up on events.
"I never want this day to end." He found himself saying. He smiled, letting the warmth get to him. He let a few tears be shed. How could anything ruin this perfect family?
He felt something break, he looked up, his vision was blurred an she saw something else in the dark corners of his sight. Quickly he turned and says things fading. He blinked, that only made it fade fast.
"No." His heart was pounding. He didn't want it to go, he wanted things back to the way they were, before this haven turned into hell on earth. Tears fell from his eyes, it was going away. The world was vanishing. "NO!"
He saw everyone leaving, darkness was the path that they were taking. "No!! Come back!" They didn't hear him the didn't see what was happening, they were gone.
Only she and the child remained. He ran to them, reaching out, he couldn't lose them if we was losing everyone. Time was running out...
I can't lose them...
I can't....
The first thing he felt, was himself shaking on the cold floor. Next was his aching hand that hurt like. He grit his teeth to hold back a scream. He curled up, breathing unsteadily and his vision going in and out. Last thing he felt before he blacked out again, were the tears teaming down his face.
He woke up to someone poking his rib with his own bat.
"Alright, I'm good again." She held out her hand, it was filled with years of work at the cruel mines, handling sugar, animals, and strings. The broken leg was healed by some miracle.
"Where is everyone?" He blinked, looking around. No grass, no sky, no hill or anyone else but him and the girl. And no color.
"What do you mean by everyone? Nobody's here." She pulls him up, making sure he stood. "I accidentally attacked you, so I guess that might've triggered something."
"There was a picnic, Hugo, it was his birthday!" Everything started flooding back. The memories, it all had been real once.
"That never happened, now let's go, you're needed." She walked off a short distance and kicked down a rock, revealing a portal. "C'mon."
"But..." Face it, this is cold, harsh, reality. That was in the past, it will forever be gone save for in your memories. "What happened to this place?"
"I don't know, everyone just turned corrupted but... You can still do some right." He wasn't buying it. "Okay, if you help us with our trouble, I'll do my best to turn this place to what it used to be."
"...Promise...?"
"You got it."
