Nina stirred only when the buzzer screamed at 6 a.m. With a groggy sigh, she rolled out of bed and padded to the door to collect the milk cartons and newspaper—mundane chores that somehow felt vintage in a world now obsessed with gadgets and screens.

As soon as she stepped into the hallway, a voice snapped through the morning fog.

"There you are, you lying little fox."

Elijah stood outside the apartment next door, arms full of boxes. The front door was wide open. Nina blinked, momentarily convinced she was still dreaming. She even laughed.

That didn't go over well.

"First you lie, now you giggle? Seriously, Nina—you're getting on my nerves." His raised voice jolted her into full consciousness.

She took a step forward—and screamed.

"Oh my God, what is this?!"

The milk and newspaper crashed to the floor as she slapped a hand over her mouth, staring at the scene in front of her.

"Are you moving in? With him?" Her eyes darted to the boxes, to the open door, back to Elijah. "Please say no. Tell me this isn't happening."

She tried to shove past him, but Elijah didn't move. His height and bulk made him an immovable wall.

"Yes," he said, smug. "You evil little rat."

Turns out, Jungkook had gotten to the vacant apartment before she could stop him. While leaving her place last night, he'd overheard the landlord mention the place was still open and she preferred students. He didn't waste time—found her number online, made a call, and by morning, the lease was his.

"You knew we were looking for a place," she snapped. "Why the hell didn't you tell me?"

"I didn't want Jungkook living next to me! He's an outrageous psychopath—don't you know that?"

Elijah opened his mouth to reason, but the next moment happened too fast.

Jungkook appeared from behind and shoved her away from Elijah—hard. She shrieked, stumbling backwards and falling to the floor. Her wrist twisted beneath her as she hit the ground with a thud.

"Watch your mouth, you shameless whore," Jungkook hissed. "I'll file a complaint for you trying to seduce your neighbors."

Elijah dropped everything and rushed to help her. Shock twisted his face as he looked at Jungkook like he didn't recognize him.

"If you disrespect her one more time," Elijah said, voice dangerously low, "I swear I'll slit your damn throat."

This wasn't the Jungkook he knew. Elijah had never seen him this cruel—especially not to a girl. Not like this.

Jungkook's expression shifted. For a split second, the rage flickered into confusion—like even he couldn't believe Elijah had turned on him. But what else could he expect?

He was the one pushing people away.

Nina shoved Elijah's hand off her as he tried to help.

"Don't bother."

She picked herself up, grabbed the milk carton and newspaper from the floor, and slammed the door behind her with enough force to make the hallway tremble.

Nina's P.O.V

"Oh lord... what do I do now? I don't even—" Mona stormed into my room, confusion and worry written all over her face. She hurried over to me. "What's wrong?"

What's wrong with me? I'd hurt my hand struggling to save the house next door, but now the very Satan I bit yesterday owns it. And the look on his face? Pure promise of hell—like I'm not already living it.

"Elijah and Jungkook moved in... next door," I whined like a toddler, stamping my foot. My heart was pounding way too fast.

Mona caught on quick. She glared, stunned. How the heck did they even find out about the place?

"I don't care about Jungkook moving in. But I lied to Elijah. I lied," I groaned, hating myself. "I can't even face him. How could I do that to my only friend—after all he's been through?"

"Calm down, stupid girl," Mona said firmly. "Talk to him. Explain. He will understand. He's not psycho like his friend."

She was right. Elijah would understand. How could he not?

Later that morning, I rushed through getting ready for school. Standing outside Elijah's door, I practiced what I'd say over and over. Heart in my throat, I rang the bell.

The door swung open—but it wasn't Elijah. Jungkook was there, staring at me like a predator sizing up prey. In that moment, I realized I wasn't the kindest person. Despite our insane relationship, I should have helped him when he needed shelter. I could've. But I didn't.

"I... I'm sorry. I didn't—"

"Make it quick," he snapped. "I don't have all day."

I barged past him—because no apology is owed to a jerk like him.

"Elijah?" I called inside.

Suddenly, music stopped, and Elijah appeared, startled.

I grabbed his attention, making him pause his dancing. "Elijah, I'm really sorry for not helping you. If it was just you, I would've told you sooner. But you were moving in with that tailless dog..."

He burst out laughing, spitting droplets on my face.

"Oh my god, you childish brat," I said, wiping my cheek. "What was I saying?"

"Tailless dog," he repeated, cracking up again.

"Yeah, he totally is."

"I get it, babe. He's a bit off, but it's okay. I forgive you. Everyone has reasons for what they do."

Elijah's kindness blew me away. I never expected him to forgive me, but here we were—back to how things should be. This must be what Sister Hanna calls true friendship, something I never had before.

Speaking of Sister Hanna, I miss her pies and those ridiculous big-girl lectures. I wish I could call her right now, but—

"Outta my way, fatass!" Jungkook shoved me into the elevator before I could protest.

He muttered under his breath, "Stupid girl... ugly hair," but his eyes betrayed something sharper — a fire burning behind the anger.

The doors slid shut, sealing us in the tight, echoing space.

I eyed the angry red bite mark on his cheek and leaned in close enough for him to feel my breath. "That's gonna leave a scar," I said, voice low and mocking. "Looks painful. Or is that just your new permanent expression? Whining?"

He stepped forward, invading my space like a predator closing in on prey. "You think that little mark scares me?" His voice was a venomous whisper, heavy with menace.

I didn't blink. "No. It just shows how much you lost control. You bark loud, but you bite like a puppy."

A dark, twisted smile curled his lips. "Keep pushing, princess. I might show you how sharp my teeth really are."

The elevator felt smaller, the air thicker. My heart hammered as our eyes locked, each daring the other to blink first. This wasn't just hatred anymore—it was something raw and dangerous, like standing on the edge of a cliff daring the other to jump.

"You don't scare me, Jungkook," I hissed, voice fierce. "You don't get to control me, not ever."

His jaw tightened, nostrils flaring, but he didn't break eye contact. Instead, he leaned closer, his breath hot against my ear.

"Careful what you say," he breathed. "One day, you'll realize you've been dancing on the edge of a blade—and I'm the one holding it."

The elevator dinged, the doors sliding open like a release valve on the tension.

I stepped out first, chest heaving, eyes burning with defiance.

He followed silently, every step heavy with unspoken threats and promises.

Neither of us spoke, but the silent war between us had just escalated—louder than ever.

.......

I stepped into the school's seminar hall flanked by Principal Lee and Principal Kim. The room buzzed with members from both the Sapphire and Teddy Bear clubs, all waiting for some big announcement. Whatever it was, I hoped it didn't involve something insane—like merging both schools or turning everything coed. Honestly, I'd rather die before that happened.

"So, girls and boys, we have exciting news..." Principal Lee began, a sly smile tugging at his lips.

"We're going on a trip tomorrow," he finished.

Exciting? More like a nightmare waiting to happen.

My mouth betrayed me before my brain caught up. "Excuse me, Nina?" Principal Lee's sharp gaze pinned me through his glasses.

I glanced at Mona and Emily. Their eyes danced with silent laughter, confirming I'd said it out loud. "Sorry," I mouthed.

From across the room, the Teddy Bear club's resident jackass Jungkook sneered, "Looks like someone's scared of the woods." His cronies exploded in obnoxious laughter.

"Enough," Principal Kim cut in sharply. "As Principal Lee said, this trip starts tomorrow, and the other two schools will be joining us—not just joining, but competing. Since we won't compete against each other, it's us versus Dreamberry and Marblewell. Remember, we are one team. Girls, save the boys when they mess things up."

The boys responded with loud scoffs.

Once the principals left, we were left alone—twenty members split between Sapphire and Teddy Bear clubs.

Shawn laughed, loud and cynical. "They say we're not competing, but I'm not moving forward until we all agree we'll do this like we mean it."

Translation: we're going full chaos mode with dares and nonsense.

"Are we even allowed after that big speech?" I muttered.

"Aww, scared, girls?" one of the boys taunted.

"Never," Mona shot back sarcastically. "But instead of truth or dare, let's make it dares only. We're not in kindergarten anymore—no truth crap."

Her smirk made my skin crawl. At that moment, I knew one thing for sure—Mona was about to be in serious trouble... and I was going to be the one dealing it.

.......

This is going somewhere interesting I see...

What is gonna happen during and before the trip?!
Comment down your thoughts, id love to read it... Your comments make my day!!

Thanks for reading 🍟

One more thing? Have you seen the Scream movies? Which part is your favourite!? I liked the latest part and the first one! It's damn hilarious btw! The killers are way dumber than the dumb characters!!!

And should I or should I not, reveal my horror romance book series!!?? I have 3 books ready but could not post them since people prefer romantic books over mystery-horror.
