Chapter 8
Hera's P.O.V
I had my head in my hands. What am I supposed to do to get passed the blockade without tearing apart the Ghost? Including endangering the lives of my family that are safe in my hands.
What to do? What to do? What to do?
"Hera?"
I spun around in my chair to see Sabine holding Sky and Zeb standing behind her. Chopper rolled over and patted my leg to comfort me. I smiled at the droid and returned the pat on his dome head.
"How are we going to get them?" Zeb asked, arms crossed.
I sighed and looked up at them.
"I don't know," I answered.
"There has to be something we can do to save them," Sabine spoke, "We need to do something."
I nodded. She was right but what?
I swiveled the chair and looked at the blockade to see if there was any flaw. Any sort of dent that could break through without turning the Ghost into a pile of rubble.
There were TIEs flying around and merchants coming in and out from the planet.
An idea came and a smile blossomed wider than I knew. It might be risky but it may be the best idea we've got. I turned in my chair to the others.
"I've got an idea to get Kanan and Ezra."
"Is it a plan where we may have to change it later on or something we're really going to hate?" Sabine asked.
I looked at each member of the crew and answered, "Both."
Ezra's P.O.V
My hands trembled.
It was so cold. I thought my brain was going to freeze at any moment.
"K-Kanan..." I whimpered, pathetically. No wonder he thinks I get in the way of things and blames me for all the troubles in the world. It's because it is true. I mess up, big time. How has Kanan been repaid? With another one of my messes to clean up for me. It was all my fault.
"Yeah, Ezra?" He asked, after awhile of silence.
I didn't want to admit it but I was scared. Terrified would be a better word.
"N-Nothing," I stuttered under my breathe. What was I going to tell him? Hey Kanan, I'm scared of a cold feeling that some sort of Sith is coming for us, like it hasn't happened before, so I'm going to act like a baby about it.
No, there was no way I'm going to be scared. They think I need protection but I can handle it. I can handle the big secret, a Sith, and fears. I can handle that and more. It's just to bad that I don't have the confidence or bravery to prove it.
That's when realizing that, I am afraid. I'm afraid of knowing the truth. The truth that's been kept so I won't break more than I already have. If they do say it's that bad...that I may hurt me more. Then why do I desperately want to know?
A slashing noise filled the silence in the air. It made me flinch. Out of force of habit, my hand reached down towards where my lightsaber would be. There was nothing but an empty spot.
"Ezra, I need you to stay here and hide your signature," Kanan ordered and I nodded, reluctantly. I wanted to help but it would be more help to just follow orders and not make thing more difficult than they need to be.
Kanan stood up and walked away, disappearing around the couch.
I wanted to stop him from doing something crazy. Yet, I froze. That haunting and torturous memories still stained my mind. I lifted my hand with the two missing fingers. This was a horrible reminder of that day. This permanent mark that reminds me when I broke.
My hand trembled more.
In that time, there was bravery until it all vanished in that one day.
Shivers ran up and down my spine. The nightmares make it worse. They were right, I wasn't ready.
"Hello, Jedi or should I say, Caleb Dume..."
The room grew cold as a fate red glow brought an eerie glow to the room. Caleb Dume?
"So...where's this famous padawan I keep hearing about?"
It sounded like a woman's voice but by the red glow and cold feeling, this wasn't just any ordinary woman. An inquisitor.
"He's far away from here. Good luck, finding him," Kanan spoke.
The inquisitor hummed.
"I sense fear," she taunted. My heart almost stopped and stomach churned from her slick voice.
"No!" Kanan yelled as two red blades sliced the couch in two. It barely was an inch away from me. An immense wave of electricity zapped me. A scream tore through the air and crashing noise jolted me out of my thoughts of almost dying.
"Ezra! Let's go!" I quickly got to my feet and followed Kanan out the door and down the streets.
My mind went to what that inquisitor said. Caleb Dume. Caleb. Why does that sound so familiar?
Kanan turned into an alley and I followed. I can think of it later, after we aren't trying to be killed.
"Duck!" he yelled and I bowed my head as a wave of heat past the back of my head. When looking back up, a cherry red lightsaber spun and returned back to its owner like a boomerang.
We turned again and came to an immediate stop when seeing another inquisitor standing on the other side of the alleyway. His lightsaber ignited into a double-bladed red. I turned around to see the other one right behind us.
"There is no where to run, Jedi," the female inquisitor purred, tauntingly. They both walked towards us and I waited for one of Kanan's last minute escape plans but he didn't say a word.
"What are we going to do?" I asked, sounding braver than I felt.
"I have an idea, but you're not going to like it," he said.
"When do I ever like your ideas of escape?" I whispered, questionably.
"You got me there," he replied then whispered, "On three, we're going to use the force to grab that open window above us."
"What about our little 'accessories?" I asked.
"It's either that or torture in an imperial cell. I'll tell you right now, it's a lot worse," he said and I flinched remembering the day Kanan was captured. That was the first time I did something brave after Thrawn tortured me. I just couldn't take it and had to do something. Yet, right after I saved Kanan, I went back to my usual ways.
A scared child.
I sighed, "Okay."
"On three," he spoke and I watched the inquisitors.
"One..."
They were getting closer making me nervous.
"Two..."
Every step felt like I was closer to being in a cell again. In my tomb cell, buried alive.
"Three!" Kanan yelled and we both used the force to jump as high as we could. The shock immediately came but we ignored it and latched onto the open window. It was a wicked zap but soon it ended with a burning sensation going up and down my body. It hurt like heck. We climbed into the room and I peeked out.
Below, the inquisitors were about to jump. I quickly closed the window and followed Kanan quietly out of the room and down the halls of the building. The inquisitors were right on our tails but we were soon out of the building and blending in with the crowd.
We lost them...for now. A sigh of relief relaxed my nerves as we kept walking as far away from where the cold was.
Still, I'm praying that Hera is coming to get us before something worse finds us first.
