Chapter 5
Ezra's P.O.V
I ran. From what was a mystery. All I knew was to run and not look back. That's when I stumbled to the ground. I looked down at my stomach to see blood gushing out. My head spun and eyes grew fuzzy as I laid on the ground.
A figure approached but I blacked out before I could see them.
The next time I woke up, my arms were chained around a pole. Cold air brushed against my bare torso.
"You've been a bad slave," a chilling voice spoke. I angled my head to see a whip coming down.
I sat up and gasped. Pain shot through my arm and quickly repositioned it. I looked at my surroundings to see a fire not to far away. I was in some kind of abandoned warehouse. I felt the cold brush against my skin and shivered.
"You're awake," I turned to see Kanan sitting on the other side of the fire.
"What happened?" I asked, rubbing my head.
"I don't know, mind telling me why you ran off?" He asked. There was some annoyance in his voice and I winced. He was mad.
"I-I...s-saw..." I gulped down my stuttering. Kanan sighed in annoyance getting angrier, "What did you see?"
"I s-saw...a...a..." I was scared and just couldn't find the words to defend myself.
"Ezra!" He yelled losing his patience, "You almost got us killed! If you don't have some kind of good reasoning on why you ran then you better say it!"
"I-I'm sorry...," I began, quietly shaking,"I had to help him."
"What? Help who?" Kanan snapped.
"There was a small boy, alright!" I yelled then began to ramble, "There was a little boy there and I couldn't let him get hurt! So I ran after him and ended up being chased to that storage unit."
My breathing became very uneven, "Then you came and saved us. The boy ran back to his mom when you finished. I'm sorry! Okay! I had to do something-"
"Ezra," I stopped but my breathing became heavier. Tears streamed down my face as my shoulders were shaking from quiet sobs.
"I'm so sorry. I don't deserve your forgiveness for the way I've treated you this past week," Kanan apologized, "I should of been more patient with you but instead took out all my anger on you."
I calmed down and could feel guilt come off the Jedi in waves. Silence came between the two of us. That's when my arm started to hurt again and I flinched.
Kanan sighed but not in an annoyed way. He sat next to me and I scotched away, keeping my arm to my chest.
"Let me see it, your hurt," he said gently. I looked at him then slowly let him check my arm.
"It's dislocated," he muttered under his breath. I didn't say anything until screaming in pain when he relocated my arm.
"Sorry," he said then grabbed an old tarp. He ripped some of it off and made a sling for my arm. Once it was on, I noticed a metal cuff on my wrist but there was nothing connected to it.
"What's this?" I asked shyly, showing the metal cuff.
"They're Force suspensor cuffs, it has an invisible electric line that connects the cuffs so we won't be getting to far from each other. Also, don't use the Force or this will shock you pretty badly," Kanan explained.
"But, how come I can feel you mentally through the Force and not get zapped?" I asked, curiously examining the metal cuff on my wrist.
"It probably only detects when we use the Force physically, not mentally," he said. I nodded, understanding.
"Mind telling me what your nightmare was about?" He asked. I was taken back by the question.
"I-I didn't have a nightmare," I replied, crossing my arms.
"Don't lie to me. You kept turning in your sleep and just before you woke up, you were whimpering," he said.
"I'm not lying. It wasn't a nightmare," I said, shaking my head, "It felt like...memory."
"Memory?" He repeated then asked, "Memory of what?"
I shivered a bit when remembering the nightmare. Some of it, I don't remember but the last part was crystal clear. That was when I was first whipped but for what, I don't know. I don't know why I was punished. It was all a big blur.
I realized I was quiet and Kanan waited patiently for me to gather my words.
"It was my first time that I was whipped," I said, staring into the fire. I pulled my legs to my chest wanting to feel small and defensive.
"Is that why you had a hard time in training?" He asked, "You've been having nightmares or memories." I nodded still not wanting to look at Kanan. He must think that I'm childish for being scared of some silly nightmares.
"Why didn't you tell me you were having nightmares?" He asked.
"I didn't want you to think that I was a fragile and broken child. You guys have cut back my Jedi training and missions because...because..."
"We thought that you couldn't handle it," he finished. I nodded, "Yeah."
"I'm sorry that we thought that but you have to understand, even if you do feel okay, that a broken mind takes time to heal," he replied.
"I know that, but I just didn't want to wait longer because of problems like nightmares," I said.
"Next time, come to me or Hera about the nightmares though. We don't think any less of you," he said, "Even I still get nightmares and talk with Hera. It works, trust me."
"Noted," I replied, looking up and felt a smile split on my face.
"Come on, we need to get moving," Kanan said, standing up and putting out the fire. I stood up and followed the Jedi out of the warehouse. The sounds of TIE Fighters flew over and headed towards the city.
I felt it and could tell that Kanan did too.
The cold.
Sabine's P.O.V
I was walking to my room when I heard Hera talking to someone. I paused outside the cockpit door and rested my ear against the smooth metal.
"We need help from the fleet. The Imperial forces have drastically increased and I'm guessing you heard that they are being hunted," Hera spoke.
"We cannot risk the lives of a whole fleet for two Jedi or we may loose what we worked for," I heard an unfamiliar voice speak.
"But they are the last two Jedi in existence. At least think about that," Hera argued.
"What might their names be?" The unknown voice spoke.
"Kanan Jarrus and Ezra Bridger," Hera clarified then asked, "Why?" All went silent for a moment before the unknown voice replied, "We will come but I'm not promising good results."
"Thank you, Fulcrum," Hera said.
Fulcrum, the mysterious contact. Wait, fleet? I stood up and quietly walked down the hall thinking over the conversation.
