Chapter 10
(Sarah's POV)
I shifted Lotte from one arm to the other and looked at Erik. "Are you ready to disembark?" I asked.
Erik looked down at me and nodded. "Of course. I want to show you everything." He said as he picked Mike up in his arms so that he could see better.
I looked out the window and smiled a little as I saw the New York skyline. "Is Father ready?" I asked.
"I believe that he is." He said with a nod.
"Good." I said. Erik nodded and watched as Father came walking up beside us.
I turned to him. "What do you think, Father?" I asked as I pointed at New York City.
"It looks wonderful." He said with a smile.
"I hope you like it. It's a lot smaller now than in my time." I said quietly.
"Really?" Erik asked.
I nodded. "One plus about being from the future is you know what's going to happen."
Erik nodded, "I think you fit better in this time though, sunshine."
I laughed a little and gave him a quick kiss. "I'm glad you think so." I said. "I agree."
He smiled and kissed me back. We then watched as the boat docked and he looked down at me, "Ready to see your new home?"
I nodded. "Yep, I am. Is it in the country?" I asked. He hadn't told me a thing about it.
He nodded and smiled again. "Yes, I also have a surprise for you."
"A surprise?" I said as my eyes lit up.
He nodded. "Yes, a surprise." He laughed softly and took my hand. "Come. Let's get off this thing." I nodded happily on agreements and took Mike's hand as we walked off the ship.
(Carly's POV)
"Sarah!" I smiled as I walked towards them and gave them all a hug. "I'm so glad you made it."
She flung her arms around me and grinned. "I'm so glad we're here!"
"New York is simply amazing!" I said with a smile. "You'll love it."
"Me, love a city?" She laughed. "Well, maybe I will.'
I smiled at her and looked up at Erik. "Everyone will be happy to know that Mr. Y is back in town."
She laughed a little and turned to Erik who was holding Lotte. "I suppose that's my new last name, eh?" She said with a smile.
Erik laughed a little, "If you would like it to be."
She thought for a moment. "It sounds like a question. Sarah Y but, I like it."
(Sarah's POV)
"It can be your stage name." Erik said. "I only chose Y because it sounded like the word mystery."
"I'm going on stage?" I asked.
"If you would like to." He said. "You don't have to though."
"We'll see." I said with a smile as I looked around. "Why don't we go home?" I asked as I picked up my bag.
Erik nodded and called a cab. "Let's go home." I nodded and we all walked to the cab.
Erik told the driver where to go. Once we came into view of the house, he pointed out the window. "You should see your surprise out in the field grazing."
I looked out and gasped. "My horse!" I said happily. "I thought you had sold her."
He shook his head. "I could never do that, love."
"Thank for keeping her." I leaned over and kissed him. "I was going miss her a lot."
"You're welcome." He smiled and looked down at Mike. "I have you a surprise too. Just like your mothers."
Mike looked up hopefully. "What is it?" He looked around.
He smiled as the carriage stopped. He helped them all out and picked up Mike in his arms, "I want you to whistle. Your surprise will come." He whistled and we waited.
He smiled once more as he saw the horse that he had chosen for Mike came running up to the fence. He walked up to it and petted his nose. "He's all yours, son."
Mike grinned happily and reached out to pet the horse's nose. "Thank you, Daddy!"
"You're welcome." Erik smiled and set him down. "I'll let you to get acquainted, I need to unload the luggage." He patted his head and walked back to the carriage. I stood with my son as he petted his horse. I was very pleased to see that Erik had bought an older, calmer horse for Mike.
Erik carried the bags into the house and got everything settled. After a while, I took Mike's hand. "Let's go on inside. I need to make supper."
Erik watched as we came in. He was rocking his daughter back and forth, keeping her calm.
I walked inside and let Mike go explore. "How is Lotte?" I asked as I walked forward and picked her up.
"She's just a little restless." He said softly.
"She's had a long trip." I said as I kissed my daughter's forehead. "Where is Giovanni?"
"He's in his room getting settled." She said as she leaned down and kissed me.
I kissed him back and gently touched his masked cheek. "Maybe I take it off?" It was a little hard to kiss him with it on.
He was hesitant for a moment, but he nodded. "You may remove it."
I smiled and removed the mask and wig. "Thank you." I kissed his cheeks and Lotte giggled. She loved seeing her Daddy without his mask.
He smiled at our daughter's giggle. "You're welcome."
I smiled and hugged him. "I need to go fix supper." I said softly. "Would you show me where the kitchen is?"
He shook his head and smiled. "No."
"No?" I asked, confused. "Are you not hungry?"
"I'm hungry." Erik said with a nod. "But, you and the baby are going to rest while I fix supper."
"If you insist but we will rest in the kitchen with you." I said.
He nodded. "Alright." I smiled and followed him into the kitchen. He began to prepare our supper. I sat down and began to nurse Lotte. She was hungry.
He hummed softly as he cooked. I listened to the tune for a moment and began to softly sing along as I recognized it.
He looked over his shoulder and smiled at me. "How I've missed that voice." He whispered.
I smiled a little. "How? You hear it every day when I speak to you." I said softly.
"You never sing anymore." He whispered softly.
"I haven't really had a chance." I said sadly.
"I've built an opera house here, you know." He said as I finished supper. He walked over to me and kneeled down, "Would you sing for me there?"
I took his hands in mine and nodded. "For you. And, only you." I said as I kissed him.
He smiled widely and hugged me. "Thank you. Thank you so much."
I hugged him back. "And, to think most people told me I couldn't sing." I said with a laugh.
"You have the voice of an angel." He smiled and kissed my forehead. He then stood up, "I'll go get father and Mike for supper."
I smiled. "And, I'll set the table." I said as I stood up, balancing Lotte in my arms and moving around the kitchen, trying to find the dishes.
He brought them two back to the kitchen with him. He took Lotte from me, "Let me hold her for a while."
I handed her over. "Thank you." I said, relieved. I finished the with the table and began dishing up food. He smiled and sat down, holding Lotte in his arms. I handed everyone their plates and sat down in my seat.
Erik prayed over the meal and then began to eat. He looked up at Father and laughed a little. "Are you excited to meet your future bride tomorrow?"
Father laughed. "I believe I am. Do you think she is?" He asked.
Erik nodded and smiled. "Of course. I wrote to her the day before we left, telling her about you."
He rolled his eyes and chuckled. "Ah, I hope you didn't scare her off then?" He said.
Erik shook his head. "Father, I'm sure it will be love at first sight."
"Like your mother and Charles?" Father said with a smile.
My son nodded and smiled. "Exactly."
He smiled and kept eating. "Tell me some more about her. She knows more about me than I do about her."
"Her name is Belle." Erik said with a smile. "She is an excellent cook and she enjoys reading."
"Sounds fascinating." Father said. "They say, a way to a man's heart is through his stomach."
Erik laughed and nodded. "I believe you two will get along nicely."
(Giovanni's POV)
"Does she have any family?" I asked.
He thought for a moment and nodded. "She has a granddaughter around Mike's age." He told me, "The child's parents passed away due to a carriage accident."
"I'm sorry to hear that." I said. "I assume the child lives with her?" I wanted to know what to expect.
He nodded. "Yes, she does."
"Well, I do like children." I said with a smile.
He smiled and nodded. "As do I."
"That is a good thing." I said as I glanced at his children.
He smiled again and finished his meal. "Yes, it is." He held Lotte in one arm and held his hand out to Mike. "It's time for bed."
(Sarah's POV)
I stood up and began to take the dishes to the sink. "While you're putting them to bed, I'll deal with dishes."
Erik nodded and kissed my forehead. "Sounds good." I kissed his cheek and began to wash the dishes.
I finished with the dishes and turned to Father. "How do you like America so far?" I asked.
Father smiled softly. "It's a strange but wonderful place."
I smiled. "I'm glad you like it. It will be good to speak English again. I've missed it." I said with a sigh.
He nodded, "I'm glad I learned the language."
"I'm glad too." I said. "It's a difficult second language. Or so, I've heard."
He nodded. "Yes, it is."
I smiled. "Well, I think I better go track down my husband so he can tell me where our bedroom is. Traveling always wears me out. Just my luck then that I would get the one man who seems to be always moving." I chuckled.
Father laughed and stood up. "Have a nice night." He hugged me and then went to his room.
I smiled at him and hurried off to try to find where ever my husband had gone."
I finally opened one door and smiled as I realized I had found Erik's study. I sneaked up behind him and draped my arms around his neck.
Erik gave a little jump and turned around in his chair. "Hello, Sunshine."
I laughed and kissed his cheek. "Hello, Phantom. Do tell me, did I manage to finally startle the Phantom of the Opera?"
He laughed a little and nodded. "I didn't hear you."
"I must have picked up a few traits from you." I said as I ran my hand through his wisps of hair.
He closed his eyes and nodded. "You must have."
I smiled and swirled his hair around my fingers. "I used to sneak around the Opera House. It kept the legend of the ghost alive. They didn't know the difference." I whispered.
He nodded and caught my hands. He kissed them and smiled a little. "I'm glad you did."
I smiled. "It was fun." I said.
He smiled again and stood up. "Let's get to bed. I'm tired."
"I'll agree with you there." I said as I wrapped my arm around his waist. He walked me to our bedroom and opened the door.
I walked in front of him and gasped slightly. "It's beautiful." I whispered. He had decorated it all in black and red and I loved it.
"I hoped you would like it." He smiled as he walked inside.
"You know how much I love red and black." I said with a smile as I walked over to the bed.
He nodded. "I do know." He said as he walked into the bathroom to change. I changed in the bedroom and slipped under the black sheets and waited for him.
He walked out and laid down and yawned. I snuggled up against him. "What are we doing tomorrow?" I whispered.
"Whatever you want to do." He whispered.
"Would it be too much for me to see Coney Island?" I asked.
He smiled. "You'll love it. Besides my workers need to know that their boss is back."
I giggled. "I'm sure they do." I thought for a moment. "Do you have any friends there?"
He nodded. "Yes, three actually."
"What are their names? What are they like?" I asked.
"I believe you know the answers." He laughed a little. "After all, you know everything about me."
I thought for a moment. "I remember their names. Dr. Gangle, Miss Fleck, and Mr. Squelch, right?"
He nodded and yawned again. "You are correct."
"It will be nice to meet them." I whispered as I laid my head on his chest and yawned. "Do they know I exist?" I asked, closing my eyes.
He shook his head softly. "No."
"Then, it will be a very pleasant surprise. I love surprises." I said with a mischievous giggle.
He laughed a little and nodded. "Yes, I'm sure it will be."
I giggled again. "Go to sleep, Phantom. We have a busy day ahead of us."
Erik nodded again and closed his eyes. "Goodnight, Sunshine." He said and then dozed off to sleep. I smiled and dozed off as well.
