Chapter 1
You pick up one of the rusted fishing poles off the shore of the Cooling Pond in Chernobyl. A pile of mutated fish sit beside you. You've been fishing for hours, having very good luck for a day like this. It's raining, and you don't want to risk getting pneumonia. But your sickly brother ((just name him whatever you want. Imma just call him Charles for now.)) is back in an orphanage in the center of the city. You know he is reaching death. You shake off the fact that you will be alone and continue fishing. The Cooling Pond is a man-made lake that sent water to the reactor in the nuclear plant. You can see some of the overflowed streams leading to the ruins of the exploded reactor. You lean on the rusted bars of the cement dock you stand on. You stick a piece of stale bread on the hook and throw it out. Almost the instant the hook hits the water you get a catch. You pull it in. It is a catfish with two lower jaws and two tails. You instantly think of your brother, who loves fishing and always has. He has lived in this nuclear town his entire life. He is only 5. You remember the first time he picked up a fishing pole. He was 2 at the time, but was a little champ at fishing. That was also when you both were still with your family. You remember what you're doing and stop trying to go back to when you were happy. You take the mutated fish off the hook and take the rock beside you to knock it out, like you had with the rest of the fish. You suddenly realize that you forgot your backpack, so you have nothing to carry the fish in. You see two things nearby that catch your eye. They could carry the amount of fish you have beside you (maybe about 10 very large fish). Which will you chose?
Choice 1: Partially ripped trash bag in good condition
Choice 2: A small plastic tub with some burns on the bottom
