(PS...QUOTES AND PICTURES DO NOT BELONG TO ME, BUT TO THEIR ORIGINAL OWNER.)
And guys, try to listen to one of my favorite songs for this chapter. I just love this song so much. Who is your favorite singer or band?
"So, how's the first day of school? Hope everything went well." Bong Soon scooped some rice and placed it into her plate.
The girls glanced at each other and just shook their heads. "It went okay. Some hiccups here and there but overall, it was good."
"Yeah, Umma." Jin-Yu jumped in. "It wasn't that bad, to be honest. There were some confusing Korean phrases that I didn't get and the courses were a little different from what we were used to."
"A little?!" Yu-Jin choked on her food to which her mother patted her back to stop her from choking.
"Yah! Eat your food before you start talking." Bong frowned and poured a glass of water to give it to her.
Yu-Jin gobbled the glass of water before setting it down. "I got choked because she made it seem it was nothing."
Jin-Yu scrunched her nose. "I wasn't paying attention most of the time so I didn't notice it." She placed her chopsticks down and wiped her mouth. "Now, I am going to my room to have a rest. I had a long day."
Yu-Jin let out a snicker. "Lol, what did you even do to make you tired? You weren't even paying attention to class most of the time."
"Hey! At least, I tried paying attention in social studies class."
Yu-Jin just rolled her eyes and went back to eating. Her sister never paid attention to class and she always managed to do well in the tests. Yu-Jin always wondered how she managed that. She had to work extra hard just to stay at the top. That's why she missed the fun things in life.
"Yah! You better start working hard in school. I don't want you to end up like me." Bong-Soon pointed her chopsticks at her daughter who was busy walking up the stairs.
"Is that girl even listening to me? Yah!"
Min-Hyuk started laughing which frustrated Bong even more and lightly slapped his arm. "I swear that girl is getting difficult to be handled and all you do is sit there and laughing instead of helping."
His mouth curved into a smile and he grabbed her shoulder. "Hey, don't worry too much about it. It is a phase that they are going through."
As soon as she heard the word 'they', Yu-Jin looked up in confusion. "Hey, I am not acting up so that means that I am not going through that phase."
"You do know that you act like that too sometimes, right?"
"When?" Yu-Jin leaned forward.
"Let's see. Last week, you refused to come out of your room. And how about that day you kept on staring at your phone a lot and snapping at us when we asked about it?"
Yu-Jin scowled. "First of all, you guys had no sense of privacy that's why I snapped, and secondly, I didn't wanna see anyone that day so I wanted to be alone."
Her mother rolled her eyes at that while Min-Hyuk let out a hearty laugh.
"Since when did we start having privacy at this house?" He blinked. "Especially with your grandma around."
They were right at that, Yu-Jin thought. Her grandma liked to interfere with things and privacy didn't matter with her. She could clearly remember that day when her grandmother came to visit them and she was cooped most of them in her room because she felt comfortable in there. Her grandmother wasn't having it though. She had her door removed and forced her to socialize.
This frustrated Yu-Jin no doubt but there was nothing she could do about it. And, don't get her started on her parents. They themselves were no better.
"Nope. I am not going to dive into this. I am full so I will be going to the convenience store for some fresh air." She pushed back her chair and got up.
Bong tsked and shook her head. "It is too late now for you go to outside by yourself. Plus, the bad things that have been happening around here aren't making it better."
Min-Hyuk nodded in agreement as he stuffed food into his mouth.
"But Umma, I will be okay. I doubt anyone has a chance against me."
"Ah, you see." Bong pointed the end of her chopsticks at her. "That confidence right there is what ruins this family. You have got to be careful with this power."
She heaved a sigh before she grabbed her plates to take them to the kitchen. "Umma, you are acting as if I am irresponsible with it."
"I am not saying that you are irresponsible. I am just saying to be careful."
Min-Hyuk's eyebrows ceased together. "That's literally the same."
She turned towards him and tilted her head. "What do you mean by 'the same'? It isn't it."
"Yes, babe. It is."
"No, it isn't."
Yu-Jin rolled her eyes upon hearing their bickering. They have started it once again and she was in no mood to listen to that. She took this chance to quietly grab her shoes and leave the house. She wanted some fresh air and she will make sure that she gets one.
She popped her earbuds in and played her music. Eyes, nose, and lips by Taeyang played as she walked along the alley leading up to the convenience store. As she listened to the song, she couldn't help but appreciate the scenery.
Yu-Jin had a love for nature and the outdoors. She especially loved how beautiful the sky looked at night. The stars looked like some sort of shinny sprinklers added to highlight the sky even more. The moon felt like a close friend of hers who always seemed to follow her so that it could light her path.
Yeah, it was beautiful indeed. She thought.
As she was almost two blocks away from the store, her music stopped- disrupted by an ad. She grabbed her phone out of her pocket and opened the music app. Just as she was about to play the next song, she suddenly heard a paddling of shoes and a scream.
"Ah! Help me!" Came a woman's voice. She abruptly turned around to look from where the voice was coming from.
She placed her phone back in her pocket and pulled her hoodie hat onto her head and sprinted toward the noise.
The noise was coming from the alley next to the one she was coming from. She turned toward it and suddenly a figure bumped into her. She fell to the ground and let out a groan.
Yu-Jin tried to get up but the person was lying on top of her. She flipped the body off her and placed them on their side. It was a girl-seeming around her age. She had a wound on her forehead and was bleeding near her stomach. She placed her forefinger near her nose to see if she was breathing and indeed she was. It just seemed that she was unconscious.
Just as she was about to fish her phone out to call 112 for help, she heard another set of paddles of shoes. She immediately got up as she knew whoever was arriving at the scene was the penetrator.
Black boots stopped ten feet from where she was standing and she looked up to see a figure with a bloody knife in their hand and a creepy-looking, smiling emoji, face mask on their face. Surprisingly, the face mask looked quite familiar to her but she couldn't put a point to where she saw it before.
Neither of them spoke. They just stared at each other waiting for the other party to attack first. Yu-Jin knew that she had to do something first or else the girl will bleed to death. She grabbed her phone and dial the number as she kept on maintaining her stare at the penetrator.
"Hello?" Answered the Operator.
"Please get an ambulance and police to my location. A victim has been attacked." And she hanged up the phone before the Operator could ask questions.
A low chuckle came from the emoji mask. "You have the braveness to call the police right in front of me. Aren't you afraid?"
A smile appeared on the corner of her lips. "Afraid of what? A guy who attacks alone women in the dawn of the night? That's cowardness and I am not afraid of a coward."
He clenched his hand into a fist and tightened his hold onto the knife to which Yu-Jin noticed.
"What? Cat got your tongue? Or did my words hit a nerve?"
"Shut up, b*tch." He yelled and lunged at her with his knife pointed. She dodged his attack and placed her legs under his and made him fall to the ground. He immediately got up and threw a punch to which she grabbed. She twisted his arm and he let out a loud yell. He tried using his other arm that held the knife to attack her, but she grabbed the long knife and bent it.
His eyes widened by that. The hell is she? He wondered. As he was busy thinking about that, he forget that she still had the upper hand.
She kicked his shin and he fell to his knees. Just as she was about to remove his mask to see who it was, a blow was landed on her head. She let go of his arms and moved forward to see who it was. It was another masker. This time, It was one with bloody eyes. She was about to move to attack them, but she stopped. Something fell off about this person. She could feel the hairs on her body rise which indicated that whoever this is, must be dangerous.
As soon as the first attacker noticed that she wasn't paying attention to him, he used that chance to grab his knife and getaway.
She got out of her thoughts as they started running. She figured to run after but then she heard the sirens of the police and decided to stay beside the girl.
"Hey, are you okay?" A group of officers and parademics came to the scene.
"Yeah, I am okay." She said as she looked to where the two attackers ran to. Though she said that, Yu-Jin knew that she wasn't really okay. She knew something bad was coming and It would be soon.
