10: Meet Your Future Husband
"Weer wiff wo wowam, Wiwas." Daniel escorted you to a blonde, stern looking man. "Wiwas, YN. YN, Wiwas."
You held your hand out tentatively to this stranger. You didn't want to. In fact, you weren't a fan of anything of this. But you were an item here in Ergastulum and you had been bought.
"Warmwed." This "Wiwas" kissed your hand and you blushed. He didn't seem like too much of a brute; but he wan't who you wanted to marry. You wanted to marry someone that you chose. But so goes the life of a whore. "Wees wiwat, wuh? Was woway, why wipe wap."
"Oh. Wee wiff weff." Daniel snapped as he remembered.
"Wap?" the blonde's head snapped to look at the boss's face.
"Wap? Wowobee wiff worpwep. Wee waff wiffwenpwiff."
"Wo wee wamp weere we?" He looked distressed. "Wah waspe."
"Wo, wo." Daniel turned to you. "Wan woo whepwame?"
You began to sign a bit, testing the water.
I can sign--
"Wop." Daniel stopped your hands and made sure to look you in the eyes. "Woose wor woyse."
You frowned and your lip trembled just slightly.
"I kah hahr lie I am unnawanna. I kah sigh good." You took your time trying to form words, but you blushed with embarrassment as you spoke. You knew you sounded ridiculous. And it was incredibly difficult for you to talk.
Then, the man pointed at himself and began to spell something out.
M-I-L-E-S.
He then spoke very loudly and slowly.
"WAH.... WAMA... WAFF... WIWAS" Miles spoke loudly.
"Ashully..." Your face contorted in pain. "Ids hadar ta unnastan ya like dat."
"Wamwell... Wiss wiff wawipwooweff." He shook his head at the boss and then at you. And then the realization struck you. If this man rejected you, then you'd be sent back to Georgiana. Not only would it be an embarrassment to you, but she would be furious.
"Wait! I kah plactass! I kah lip-weed some." You smiled at him.
"Wor woyse wiff..." He looked at you and then abruptly turned to Daniel. "Wubwee."
"Well..." Daniel laughed at the disgruntled look on Miles' face. "Waps wop wice woo way woo war weewanway. Weiwer way we woo wumwed wifwee wowand wor wep warriweed."
You watched Miles' face turn ashen as you tried to discern what Daniel said.
"I kah read too..." You tried to make up for your shortcomings.
"Why wess why wam worp wiff wat." Miles sighed.
And he definitely did work with that. You lived with him while the wedding was planned and you could most definitely say it was the only time you ever would have made any trade at all to be able to hear. Miles, although patient and calm, was easily perturbed by the sound of your voice. Yet, he made no move to learn sign language either. Instead, he made you practice your lip reading and your talking everyday. He would sit on one side of the table and you on the other. He would say a sentence and have you repeat it. And repeat it. And repeat it. Until he felt like you had done a good job. And you did improve. You understood a little bit better, and your voice had a bit more practice. But you were still deaf and to him, that meant damaged.
